I absolutely love AUs! The best falcon ;) seriously drive a XR, you'll love it. Brilliant cars that copped it over it's appearance....don't judge a book by it's cover folks.

@@maketheworldabetterplaceki4028 Best for me is the FG. Brought a nice midterm look to the platform. The worst for me is the AU. Just because it ruined my opinion for all Falcons till about 4 years ago ahaha. My mum had the AU forte ex taxi. Hated it to death 😆

To all you sooking about work being done out of the shop, it’s a bit of fun it’s not a competitive game show. And they are really minor upgrades really and could be considered tuning, especially the intake.
Ford 6 will always sound better then any Holden 6
And perform better
The vt is a 5 litre v8.

Barras and intechs sound like pure shit
the xr6 falcon and fairlanes exhaust were super restrictive for the output of the motor the vct engine , ive put a 3 inch on them with high flow mullers and get 30kw

More with a simple set of extractors... 2.5" all you need. 3" drone on... :-)
Don't you lose compression with a 3" exhaust? (Would google if google actually told me anything)
how the heck did it go from 142.7 to 151.1 (8.4 gain) by just making the pipe a bit longer and putting more e85 in?
The tune was quite rich, E85 leaned it out

Knocking out the cats I have found allways give a shitty raspy rattle tone, half way between a k20 and a loose manifold heat shield.
Would strait piping it sound better?

I smashed the insides out of the cat in my 1992 ford laser made a noticeable difference hahaha
ben gerritsen if your cat is blocked like most high km ones are it makes a huge difference

Put some Flashlube in it. Change the power steering fluid if you haven't done it already.

My Barra tune is rich but it made more rich then lean or in the middle, strange enough lol na bf xr6 to clarify. Cams and exhaust.

I don't think it would have been better or cheaper.
I see, I just don't think the heavier Luxo pack Auto Calias was the right choice, should have been an Commodore S 5lt manual vs a AU V8 & if your going turbo on the Ford 6 so should the Holden. Or both N/A modds only. A turbo makes almost any Engine so much more powerful. Just saying. Cheers
Rcalltypes it’s not a fair test in that sense, but it’s fair in the sense that they’re on the same budget of the same era.
AU with a live axle weighs the same as a VT. AU with IRS add 200kg.
We should probably weigh them

So Scotty, are the boys able to do a J3 for you for tuning purposes? Or did you just mean run them up on the dyno stock tunes?
I hope you get a j3... otherwise the holden team potentially have a tuning advantage with a carby and a second hand msd for instance...
I'm surprised the didn't go J3 but instead went with a Barra ECU.
Definitely makes me rethink using a J3 for my turbo AU build because I have no one local to tune it but I like the J3 as I've used one in the past.
Nothing like learning to tune your own car.
At least with the J3 it would just be fine tuning and not from scratch.
Did you really pick up 16kw and 52nm by smashing out the cat and putting on a free flowing exhaust?!
I didn't think the increase would be that big especially the torque since that's the factory rating right there.

Just wondering. I'm halfway through restoring my 87 xf falcon. Has the xflow carb motor. And wondering, what's a good way to get a few more pony's out of the old girl?
Was thinking of putting a, au TICKFORD motor in it. But rather stick to old school.
Any tips you can give me mate?

Headers, 2.5" system, to & a 3:27 lsd from the eb-el diff etc , can get stock bw40 torque convertor cut open for about 2400rpm stall, 230@050" mild cam (Camtech hyd. Take 1mm off the alloyhead (40thou). Fill it with pulp then advance dissy. Can reset secondary on weber or fit a 600holley on aussiespeed or cain manifold. Or possibly twin 34adm webers on a custom adapter as they have mechanical secondaries can open em when appropriate if link em together.

Does putting ethanol in any tank of unleaded fuel really work or just for the dyno test? could you please explain? im very lost with this and google is not helping. Should i do put ethanol in my car (which is the exact same xr6 ford in this video)
When we first dynoed it, the graph revealed the car was running very rich. By adding ethanol it leaned out the fuel mix and that helped make more power

exhaust shop i dealt with back in the day said gutting a cat won't make it make more power(unless it was blocked) replacing with straight pipe is a $10k fine? but a "damaged" cat is just a defect?

deankdx running on the street without an 'effective cat' is actually a serious offence.
china turbo, china exhaust manifold, dump straight to the ground, 2nd hand bosch 1000cc injectors and 520L fuel pump and china cooler and piping. DONE and maybe valve springs easily under 3k. if you search hard enough.

aus are pretty dumb still, they don't have obd2 and they only have one o2 sensor so it doesn't really know that the cats bashed out

yeah i wouldnt m8... not for daily driving it will kill your car as ethonol is hell on rubber components... it just eats it up.. cost prob close to $1000 to do a good ethanol conversion for a regular drive to cover all your bases.... then your only prob then is finding e85 selling petrol stations where you live... in aus its hard as Theres fuck all hey
Unplug the map on a mpfi single cam falcon (ea - au) and they over fuel by about 30%. If its only a shitter fill with e85, Unplug and send it

What’s better ? IRS or solid rear axel
Apparently live axle is lighter. Some say it's faster but I haven't seen any concrete evidence. IRS is definitely better handling
Once they get to this age live axle is better. Replacing those bushes in the irs is a pain, and not all of the bushes are readily available. Live axle is a bit rougher, but 11ty times more maintenance friendly.
And as stated, the irs set is heavy. It’s all cast and built like a tank. A hp and live axle xr6 will outrun a vct and irs xr6, but there’s bugger all in it.
Ive owned both live rear & irs & i gotta say the irs shits all over the live rear. Won't make a difference in a straight line but throw it through some corners & its night & day

The whole thing was totally unintended. I just wanted to check to new plugs, leads and coilpack. The boys decided to have some fun and in the end it didn't count towards anything
Guess the Holden should have had its stock headers put back on it too, which we all know make a massive difference-

What a gutless vehicle /engine 120 kw at the wheels. 3.9 or 4.0 inline 6 of ford rubbish. My bmw makes more with less displacement and no modifications. .
