The whole "they didnt have the word homosexual therefore..." argument is so silly. Of course they didnt. They had their own words to mean the same thing.
I’m sure that as you say, the clergy and specifically the Templars, probably was a venue for some who engage in what we term today as Homosexuality. I contend that it must have been a small number and not a majority. Why do I think this? Well, several reasons. But the one that I think most relevant is, this is an order that fights in battle. Unless your basic vanilla homosexual of today is markedly different from the ones of that period and I doubt that Is the case, they would not be deemed fit or of the right temperament to engage in hand to hand combat. Generally speaking, it is my view that today’s homosexuals entire self view and priority is tied to his sexual orientation. I doubt that was the case for your basic Templar of the time. To be a warrior monk would have required the utmost resolve and dedication to God and their mission, to defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Their sexual orientation would not and could not be their priority in this regard. If you are committed to die for an order or belief you would have to be 100% bought in. Chastity was their oath. Where you placed your penis could not be at the forefront of their mind in service to their order. Just my opinion.
