- The Thompson Center Cherokee is a light weight small caliber muzzle loading rifle. The were made from about 1987 to 1994 in 32, 36, and 45 caliber. This one is a 32 cal. Ought to be great for either small game hunting or target shooting.

Owned one when I was younger in .45 cal. Used it for Deer hunting. Always wanted the .32 barrel but never did get one. I sold it a few years after buying it and regret it to this day. I could shoot the eye out of and eagle at 100 yrds using round ball. My .45 never liked Maxi balls or any other cast bullet. I shot a big doe one time with the round ball at about 50 yards and she fell on the spot as I looked at her I noticed another blood trail in the snow, I walked about 30 yards and there laid another doe dead. The round ball had passed through the first doe and me not seeing the second one on the other side had killed it as well. Complete pass through on both deer through the lungs and heart area.
You dont wanna shine up your brass with brass cleaner or Brasso. Use very coarse steel wool to wear or clean off the grime and oxidation. If you were in the military you know what I'm talking about. Once you use Brasso it'll be a daily chore or it will turn green plus after cleaning it turns shiny and gleams. Oh, it also reflects off the sun and becomes dull to the touch. Abrasive steel wool is the way to go. Trust me after the first pre rev Lancaster I built from a components set with sand castings. Stay away from the Brasso. Once you take that coating off that's it...
Thanks.
It looks really well made. Nice catch!
+SomeGuyInSandy Thanks.
Beautiful rifle. Shep is the living firearms encyclopedia. Thanks for sharing!
+PRVeteran Thanks.
I have a .36 caliber that was my dad's. I always liked the bigger ones but as i get older the 50 and 72 calibers arent that fun anymore. I'm hoping to get to the range this week to try it out.
You should do a video with it sometime.
I have all three calibers in both the Cherokee and Seneca. I also have the Patriot in both 36 and 45. They are all great shooters.
They were good quality rifles.
Real nice rifle! You have the nicest toys..... Thanks for sharing.
+Bob Kopchik Thanks.
Good looking rifle. Thanks for this. I'd sure like to see this one being fired.
+Reg Sparkes All the guns will eventually get into shooting videos. Have not had much free time to get to the range lately. Or much free time period lately. I`ve had this gun for over 6 weeks now and still have not shot it.
At first I thought it was a Hawken, but that TC is nice condition...like that case hardening on the lock. I wish more of our rifles had that double set trigger...Have a great day
+FortuneCookie45LC For all practical purposes, it is just a Hawken rifle scaled down a little in 32 cal. Weighs about 6 1/2 pounds compared to the 9 pound Hawken.
Also picked up a 50 cal T/C Hawken about the same time. Have not put that one in a video yet. Have not had a lot of free time for youtube lately.
+1957Shep Actually, the 32 cal sounds like it would be more fun for range shooting, plinking, and small game hunting. The big Hawken is for more serious work with those Triple 7 pellets and all... definitely not for casual shooting. Best Regards to ya!!
What a sweet rifle. I'd love to have something like that in my collection...
+UrbanArmed Have Eric get you one from his sugar daddy :)
+UrbanArmed The Cherokee rifles are kind of rare, but the T/C Hawken is common as dirt. Nice used ones can be had pretty cheap. It`s pretty much the same rifle except larger in 45 or 50 caliber.
I just bought one love it in a 45
They are nice rifles.
I have two one in a seneca 45 and one in a Cherokee 45 love them need borrow in 36 and 32
Real nice. A lot of fun to shoot but I hate the clean up.
+MyHollowpoint Have not had a chance to shoot this one yet. Not much chance to get to the range the last few weeks.
Very nice TC muzzleloader. I have been looking for a TC or Lyman for a while now. Even toyed with the idea of getting a flintlock. Looking for the right gun at the right price. Side locks seem to have gone up in price recently after a period of time where people were trying to give them away. Thanks for the video.
+410mossberg The prices have gone up since T/C stopped making them. But the Renegade and Hawken can still be had at pretty low prices. I recently picked up a 50 cal Hawken for $240 in very nice condition.
I have a Renegade in 32 caliber. The barrel is after market and the stock was finely carved by a craftsman displaying a wild boar on one side and a Whitetail deer on the other and accented with oak leaves and acorns. Very nice rifle! I also have a 32 in Traditions Crockett Rifle that I use for squirrel hunting. I'd like to get a Cherokee in 32 caliber. If you find another and your not in the market hit me up.
+MrOldclunker I didn`t know they made the Renegade in 32 cal. Don`t think I ever saw one smaller than 50 cal before.
How do you like the Crockett rifle? I`ve seen them advertised, but never saw one first hand.
I got this Cherokee off one of the GunBroker auctions. You see them for sale on that site every now and then. Mostly 45s, but you see a 32 now and then. They also made them in 36 cal, but I`ve never seen one.
Used to have a 36 cal Seneca years ago. Wish I had had enough sense to keep it, but I let that one get away about 25 years ago.
Brasso lifts the oxides right off brass. Prolly best to take the brass off rifle first. Brasso, then comet and pad with water to get what oxides the rag with Brasso misses. Nice looking rifle!
+Hawaii Volcano Squad Thanks.
I have the TC Hawken in 45 Percussion, and 50 Flintlock. I belonged to a league where we had fun weekly shoots with them.
+smilemoney I have a T/C 45 Hawken that I bought in 76. Recently snagged a nice older 50 Hawken. Have not put that one in a video yet.
Some time around 75 is about when I got mine. Nice
Very nice rifle!
+tempo529 Thanks.
Beautiful rifle Shep.
+GunCrazy81 Thanks
beautiful wood stock!!!
+BATJAC J.W Thanks.
Nice little squirrel rifle you found. I've been looking for something similar for a while now, but with no luck.
+Jim Dent These are hard to find. But Dixie Gun Works sells one they call the Crockett Rifle in 32 cal. I hear it is pretty good quality.
Thanks for letting me know. I will take a look at that one.
i just found a .45 Cherokee for $150 shots great first muzzle loader
Interesting rifle, I like it
+gunnwild1 Thanks.
thanks I like your videos best
+David Wagner Thanks. Maybe I`ll try to make a little time to shoot it this weekend.
Got a Seneca with all three caliber barrels. I prefer the .36.
I've got a Seneca with all three barrels too. The .32 and .45 are from fox ridge custom shop.
nice rifle
+Specific Love Creations Thanks.
Very nice.. I have been looking at a muzzle loader to buy not nearly nice as that but I have had the bug lately. The one I am looking at has plastic stock but is only $150.00 And works on shot gun primers.
+glockerbob Sounds like one of the inline muzzle loaders. Some of those are really high quality, some are not. You might consider a used muzzle loader as your 1st one. Used muzzle loaders (most of them) sell for pretty low prices compared to new ones. I recently bought a very nice T/C Hawken in 50 cal for $240. Have not done a video with that one yet. The T/C Hawken sold for over $700 new when they were discontinued a few years ago.
But when buying a used muzzle loader you do need to be careful that it is one that was well cared for and not allowed to rust. Check for pitting. Especially the bore and around the cap nipple.
Thanks for the info friend.
Nice Rifle :)
+Marcel Klein Thanks
Nice rifle! Been looking for one for some time now....where were you able to find that one? Just can't seem to locate anything where I'm at....in Calif.
+Barney Merrill Got it off one of the GunBroker auctions. At any given time you will probably see 2 or 3 for sale there. But the majority of them are in 45 cal.
Looks like a nice piece of wood
+Joe Randella And aluminum
+Joe Randella Thanks.
Nice rifle!!! I subbed your shout out.... Told him you sent me!!!
+BillGoudy Thanks Bill.
real nice when you going to shoot it
+David Wagner Don`t know. Have not had much free time lately. But it will get into a shooting video eventually.
I had a 36 cal but I foolishly sold it. I wish I had it back. If anyone has one that has TJC marked on the stock its the one I had. I might buy it back if the price is right.
Wouldn't something like this foul very quickly?
1957Shep Could I twist your arm into doing a shooting video of this gun? The idea of a small bore muzzleloader sounds very intriguing...
+2bit MarketAnarchist All of the guns will eventually get into shooting videos. I have not had many chances to get to the range this year. Not as much free time as I used to have. I`ve had this rifle for more than 6 weeks and still have not shot it. Maybe this weekend I`ll find a little time to get to the range. Or at least fire a couple shots out in the back yard.
I don`t shoot much out back. It spooks the hell out of my neighbor`s cattle. But this little rifle should be fairly quiet.
1957Shep scared cattle would make an interesting video :)
+2bit MarketAnarchist Could be an expensive one if one of those dumb critter managed to break a leg in the process. :)
1957Shep true...
i got mine for $150.00 USD
I have a Cherokee 32 caliber I'd like to sell.
rclaws wouldn’t mind having one. How much you looking for?
I'm asking $400. I have power and a lotta round balls and bullets to go with it.
rclaws if you give me some contact information I’ll get in touch with you.
