Willard Metcalf, the American Impressionist Landscape

Willard Leroy Metcalf was born in Lowell Macassusets, He was a born natural landscape artist who went on to define an era and a style of painting all his own. Utilizing the impressionist fragmented handling of painting begun in France but refined in New England, he would characterize a land of streams and meadows of distinction with class. His elegant painterly brushwork and honesty before nature have a poet's eye for picture-making. His coloring is also rich and spot-on. A member of the TEN, which organized group showings for some twenty years.
