- George Inness is the quintessential homegrown painter of the American Landscape, some refer to him as the Father of the American style of impressionist art. His spiritual evolvement into painting was from the start a devotion to his native land, however, he was a frequent traveler to Europe and gained interest from English and French patrons as well as independent American collectors. His long road to discovery for his own unique voice was one he knew would entail financial difficulties but in the end, his work became highly sought after. A unique artist with American tenacity and spirit.
There’s a good selection of his beautiful paintings in the Clark Museum in Williamstown Mass. thank you for a wonderful video.
His painting “Autumn Oak” is at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art
A true master so little appreciated even to this day. His paintings are filled with gorgeous tonal color patterns with intricate compositional balance
Well said!
Absolutely inspiring. ❤
Thank you Such a wonderful insight into an artist not so well known or remembered today. A great discovery!
We appreciate it ! He needed to be seen.
Hopefully soon better reproductions will be available of Inness. Such a great painter. The United States version of Turner. Much respect on the video. Loved the historical lesson! Subscribed!!!
Also painters like Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, at same period, all great artists, was an suggest, what do you think ? bring more painters...
Thank you, Will Do, two very fine artists

Another brilliant video on a great painter. Thanks! I wish, though, that so many of the reproductions were not so washed-out; tonality is so important in paintings, particularly in Inness's.
Agreed Michael, there were so many we couldn't add due to image issues..but he needed to be seen. Thanks for the input.
@@gammelllackinstitute I actually became aware of him on a tour of a house lived in by a recently deceased acquaintance (more than fifty years ago. I've actually seen enough of his work to say a substantial amount of it does not reproduce well easily. This is not a criticism of him but I'm very respectful of what you did. And thanks.
Probably my favorite artist although my favorite paintings of his were not in this video....
Yes, some images we found were not HD so did not include.
Wonder what he’d think of the great grandmaster of our modern era, Master Bob Ross…
You're kidding, right?
