My advice....unless you need stiffer suspension, keep the original spring rates and lift with spacer blocks. That doesn't destroy the nice soft ride. Part numbers NRC4305 AND 4306 from UK. I'm in Alonissos
I love my 97Tdi300 that I have set up for off road touring -just a two inch lift and 235/85/16 mts and it has never let me down even during three years of professional off road extreme touring... They are amazing...
Just picked up a 97 Disco 1 for around the same price for an off-road build I'm starting. Love the channel and look forward to making my way through your Disco videos for inspiration!
I loved mine. '97 discovery 1 300tdi xs. Had her for about 10 years. Mechanically nothing major ever really went wrong with it. Regular oils and filters changes, mechanical maintenance. Loved it. The bodywork however..... oh the rust..... both front wheel arches, both rear wheel arches near the door latch, bulkhead pedal box surround, inner sills, a and b pillar bottom, rear crossmember bodymounts, boot floor, drivers footwell..... sooo much welding. I removed and resealed both sunroofs and the front windscreen and these largely cured the water ingress to the cabin. But still.... she failed her last mot with me because of .....rust...... again. The discovery 1 and 2 Achilles heel is rust in the body structure. Unlike older range rovers and the defenders, you can just unbolt a rusted out panel an put a new one in. I drive a Toyota estate now. Comfortable, quiet and reliable. But I still miss my landrover.
I viewed a 1992 200tdi today ,it’s for sale but I don’t know the price yet . I’ve had a few of them but never seen one as clean as this one . I’ll find out Monday if it’s a good deal .
yes , these disco's are the best , even on roads , I have a disco 2 TD5 , since ten years , no issues at all , confortable and very good offroad , even did trial against defenders , and if a defenders goes through the discos also , great car !! thanks !
Congrats on your new purchase! Look after the old D1, and it will look after you. They are all i own and drive now. Definitely looking forward to viewing the progress on the build!. Happy trails and cheers for sharing! Here's a video i think you will enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/-hJT8FiBfmY/v-deo.html
I sell Landrovers and normally have 120-150 d2 td5s in stock but I have 2 3 door 300tdis one auto one manual that I’d never sell at any price . The 300tdi just comes alive off road. Treat her well and it’ll never let you down
I have a td discovery 1 sitting out front of my current house. Belongs to my father in law. Last year he nearly gave it to his son, but i stopped him because his son wouldn't appreciate it but would destroy it. I've told him whenever he's going to move it on, I'll buy it from him. Needs to go to a good home and none better than mine!
Congratulations for your bought. Hope continuos working right. The color is amazing, I love it. Can you let me know the color is it? You have the sticker with the color name in the engine compartment. Thanks
Hi I am in the market for a series 1 2000 model with a 2.8 international engine (upgraded) What do you think because also a td5 is also on the cards Which is better Please My first landy though
Hahaha cars will always owe you money but at least they pay off with fun. It is holding up okay but as I said in some previous videos it does require regular maintenance in the steering and front bushing compartment which can get expensive. Mine has some steering issues right now but other than that it is fine
Love it mate I have the problem with the rust on the the top windows to on mine 😑 Love my disco as you know lol 😂 Wish I could get out with you with the disco and the Toyota 😞 When you back in the UK 🇬🇧 we will have to organise doing strata and you can jump in with me or something 😉😉
In April of this year a friend gave me this type of land rover discovery to use for missions. It's quite old and needs servicing. Financial demands are keeping me down. Pray that God opens a door of assistance for me. It's a good car to own.
You opened the drivers door and everything apart from the speakers look exactly like my car, even the missing Landrover badge at the center of the wheel. I have had it for about 8 months. Ensure you have checked all your oils on the drive train as well.
Hi mate, I love this! I’ve subscribed to you now. That disco looks awesome mate, would it be possible to, with a lot of credit given of course, use some of this footage on some of my videos which I make about the history of the Land Rover discovery 1. Cheers
Im from tenerife and i've got a grand vitara, an overrated jimmy, a galloper (worst 4x4 i've ever had) a montero (superselect is fun, but not very practical) and a disco 300. All of them are right now dead except the discovery 300, it's so F* hard that in two days im going to buy another one just to have pieces for him. to me, a discovery is the perfect mix of the comfort of a Range and the durability of a Defender. if you go for the first, RR are pure creme, but extreme expensive, and the price doesnt justify offroad abilities, Defenders are the best Offroad, but very spartans inside (basically tractors) and also really overrated, A discovery have a really good comfort, very good space in less than 5m. mixed with very good abilities offroad, The perfection of two worlds. Not everything is good ofc, but for example rust can be prevented if you paint the roof with Line-x or raptor. And also, Simple mechanic means cheap repairs, and 300 (except latests of 98) have minimun electronics. i got my first 300 for 1800 Euros, and the second one im going to buy in 1600.
"if u want to go to the bush, take a land rover, if you want to come back, take a toyota" - lol!!! only kidding, these are simple cars, very capable and take a lot of abuse. Enjoy the ride!
I have an FL1 and it's a great softroader. With a wheelbase similar to disco 1/2 and better angles. I made some videos if you want to watch them : m.ua-cam.com/video/4HlWUoTtWzM/v-deo.html See also the "Risky adventure"

How’s the reliability/cost to maintain?

For sure!
im a bout to purchase one, do you thing $1500 for a disco 1998 is a good price for one? apparently its the 50th anniversary
Best products that I have found against rust POR 15 and Dinitrol and well we are all here for Discos so better protect them than having to remediate.

Still lots of d1s in australia no salting of roads i love my 300tdi 94 auto d1
Yep, this is also tha case where I live. No salted roads
You have three amazing offroaders now! How is the Prado holding up? Mine owes me 20,000nzd which is a lot but I love it..

Check for rust, it seems like a good price
Nice discovery
Just subscribed to your channel after watching your latest video (Nighttime Show Adventure). The location where this is filmed is my "playground"!

hi! which one is better manual gear box or automatic ?
Manual for sure! More reliable and the vehicle is responsive with it
I had a 2004 tdi. It had an auto box which went on me....was going to cost a lot to fix. Would only get a manual in the future.
@@johndon74 thanks for your advice

Do you mean this specific truck was yours? It does leak from the transfer box
@@TheUntraveledPath No, I still have mine, they just look too similar.
My fave car.
hi there; great buy, i have a 1995 Disco 1, also in Cyprus.
Great! Do you go on any off road trips with it?
6000 per year for insurance? Wow! Here in Hungary it costs about 200 USD per year for my Discovery 2.
Insurance prices in the UK is one of the most horrendous things I have ever seen
I wish we had the diesel in the US.
Great vid and argumentation, bud!
Thank you!

I've had three D1's - first was the best, other two were rot boxes.
Yep, they rot like crazy in wet environments

Hahahaha, both of them have their strong points! Thank you!
Are you sure that’s not 278,000 miles as its right hand drive?
Yes sure, this is in Cyprus
Oh, and subbed!
In Australia you have to like them to buy one as once you do you cant sell them only scrap yard buys them.bad reputation
Bro they are expensive here now, I’m trying to buy a tidy one and it’s near impossible in NSW
You should definitely buy a d1 but also learn to weld 😀
Hahaha yep, for sure!
6 grand a year? My Freelander 2 costs me about 300
It depends on age and location. Freelanders are also cheaper like the vitara. The get stolen much less than Discos and Defenders
