If you are broke or you are leaving on a trip and it would take 2 weeks to get the right copper washers, you can totally reuse them, i just scrub them on a piece of 600grit sandpaper. Just clean them good after, dont want to grit all up in your forks giblets. I do this all the time on diesels, thay run at way higher psi, no leaks.
We only have caps for 39mm forks, I believe the XG750's are 37mm but I'm not positive. If you measure yours and they're actually 39mm the one's shown in the video should work
We believe they are, we did get the bike used so it is possible they are an aftermarket part. Either way it won't impact the outcome of this modification
This video is ridiculous! You do NOT need to strip the forks to fit extensions, just unscrew the factory cap and screw on the extension below it! I fitted mine in 10 minutes! No problems with safety after 5 years of riding, AS LONG as the threaded section is between the yokes on the triple tree
thats right , its actually the lowest part of the threaded extension part that take the weight !!! thats not a lot of metal . have seen them break on longer applications 😐
Not if the threaded part is inbetween the fork triple tree yokes. There is NO tension, strain, pressure on the threads if fitted there. I have had 4 inch ones on my harley fxdwg for several years with no problems.
@@martinrobertson7307do you ever carry a passenger if so how often and where did you get them from material etc …. Looking to getting a set of +3 inch . I’d love to know how reliable they are

All you have to do for the fork cap extensions is put them on. We just did the fork rebuild since we were also removing the fender mounts.

in the old days they where call fork slugs they could be very dangerest because the threaded parts are weaker than one piece tube

1" why bother? I could see 2" over but 4" over tubes are the way ta go IMO.
If you're going to rebuild the forks why not do it right and fit new tubes??
