Rick Caldwell I have a Red 66 with only 25,252.00 miles. I have watching your videos and they have helped me with my projects on my car. I redid my shocks and springs on the front and rear. I have ordered some of the braces and I have ordered the wheels like you have. Thanks for the videos and you answering my questions
About those headers, that problem has been around since the 70’s. Manufacturers wanted more coverage for their products so headers were made to fit 289/302 but also 351W with a higher deck height. On 289/302 they hang down too far. Sometimes you can see if they list the headers also fitting 351, if so, they will hang low. Trouble is their listings aren’t always accurate so you won’t know till you get em.
Hey Andy, loving your videos, I also have a 66. I have used your videos to learn along the way as I have replaced many similar parts. I just installed my monte carlo bar and export brace. I also chuckled at your 10 things you hate. I have many similar, particularly those bloody windows! Keep it up mate.
I had low headers too, but went to exhaust manifold. No more problems with speed bumps or speed humps raised in the middle (like a big turtle shield) and more room towards the shocktowers. Also clearance for my rack and pinion steering, which I didn’t have with my headers.
I've been restoring my 66 and working on it so much I hate everything about it right now. I am staying away from it for a couple weeks. I don't even want to see it. Lol
I kind of wishing I put the 3.80 in there, like what you have. With that overdrive gear, I would have enjoyed that shorter gearing as I climb through the gears. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel I used the 3:80 because a lot of K Codes Shelby had 3:89 rear gear with the Top Loader 4 Speeds and if You Compare the Top Loader 4 Speed and T5 Trans the first 4 gears are close to the same to each other but you have the Over Drive a win win the 3:80 great giddy up for the first 4 gears then O/D 🤘👍
Thanks Andy. For me #1 would be the wiring. Or what was a rats nest. They cut so much because mine was a race car. Once I yank all the wiring out and install the correct new harness I will feel better. Yikes! It"s only the beginning.
@@AndyKruseChannel time will be easier to locate than another fastback :) Honestly I COULD have it back on the road with a couple of good days.. and some fresh weather stripping..
yep good video Andy, matter of fact got my money back on my 66. was one issue after another, could not ever enjoy driving, so bought a '18 GT same color as yours mine w/ stripes just newer 15000 miles 6 speed, track pack so im done wrenching for awhile, rather drive in rain sun and heat comfortable, thanks for all tips, biggest lie was 302 380 hp 1800 miles on motor, 2 barrel, 289 maybe 300,000 miles put new 4 barrel and intake and car could handle, rooled away in park what a bucket
I'm only just getting into classics, but I hear rust is often a probelm and just wanted to know how you deal with that? Is it really such an issue and all or something I should worry about?
Rust can be a big issue, regardless of which part of the country the car came from (some areas are worse than others). All of my Mustangs have had some form of rust, but none of them were so bad that it forced me to refocus what part of the car I was working on. Some rust is manageable, and some needs immediate attention. Naturally I'd try to find a car with the least amount of rust, just so you can focus on the fun bits instead of body repair. :)
Are the long tube headers really that big of a problem when talking about clearance? I’m a fan of long tubes over shorties or mid-lengths but for clearance reasons I’m skeptical. Also I would totally scoop up a set of headers like that for that price, can’t beat that!
They can be. These particular headers hang too low, but there are other brands that fit better than these. If I had to do it over, I would not have purchased those headers, despite the fact they were on an incredible sale. Most of us have to juggle price and performance, I chose price that time and I wish I hadn't. :)
This video makes me chuckle because I have a 1968, had it since 1990 and I know your pain but most of that can be dealt with. Way back when I chose my car my dad tried to convince me to get the fastback instead. I just did not like the looks, I get they are more rare so should have more value but for me I loved the coupe look more.
Hey Andy! Love the videos keep it up! Im recently looking on having my Mustang sent to have paint done, what do you think would be good a price for paint and body work? Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! :) I too have been looking at painting options and prices. I called a local shop to get an idea and I got the "well, it depends" line from them. While that's true, I wanted to know if I'm looking at $3k or $10k, and what separates those prices. In the end, he told me that painting starts at $1500 and goes up. The more work you can do at home (meaning parts removed so they don't have to) helps with the price. Any body work, filler, rust repair, etc will add to the price. If your car is good to go and you just want to refresh the current color, it'll probably be $1k-$2k. Change the color and you're likely $3k+. Added custom striping, ghost flames, or some crazy metallic paint, then you'll need to sell a kidney. Naturally, this all depends on where you live, how busy the shop is, and the experience level of your painter. Your prices will probably vary. :)

How’s is you’re cars running with the electrical fan and shroud? Keep the videos coming 👍
Everything has been great, and the water pump pulley that is really close to the fan hasn't been an issue. It's a win in my book!

Convert it to fastback.. they are ridiculously priced right now. Coupes 15 to 20. Fastback over 40 and all rustangs
