Because I was in the right place, at the right time, and at the right age, Sanctuary will forever be among my favorite bands EVER. I saw them live at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, around 1987 or 1988. They were the opening band. I had never heard of them before. The headliner for the show was Megadeth, and also Doro Pesch / WARLOCK. Sanctuary opened for both of them, and played their hearts out. They were a relatively new band, opening for a couple monsters of the genre. No pressure, right? Well, I'm 53 now and STILL listen to tracks off "Refuge Denied".
They were a fantastic band, Warrel was one hell of a vocalist! Nevermore was an even better band! Warrel Lost his way with the vocal ability later on though, but there was a golden age with Nevermore where he could blend highs and lows excellently!
I think it's a good exemple for the comparison of the volume war. The volume increase kills the quality of sound. The way records were made before makes the music flows better, because the "ultra-shapped" sound of the high frequencies confused with the low frequencies exploded came in 2000's and made the present albuns worst for the audition.
R.I.P Warrell Dane I have listened to so many metal bands and in my opinion you are and were the greatest metal vocalist ever, such a huge vocal range from your Sanctuary day's to Nevermore. There needs to be Vocal coach reacts to your talent as you were and always will be a one of a kind unique talent... God Bless 👍😎
Nope, but they did release two amazing albums. I also wish Dane had kept his vocals in shape so that it didn't sound like he was straining so much to reach the higher end. Prefer his stylistic change with Nevermore for the most part, but his upper range was just mostly shot by the time DHIADW arrived.
This doesn’t sound like a demo. It sounds better than most of shit that’s out nowadays. Love the production, very raw and in your face mind melting METAL, they way metal should sound. I absolutely love it. Rest In Peace my friend, Warrell. You’re sadly missed.
Sanctuary is hands down one of the best metal bands from the 80s though so underrated. I own everyone of their albums including Inception. (R.I.P Warrel Dane) F**KING Legend.. taken to soon.
I saw them on this tour they were playing with Fates Warning in NYC, they opened with Eden Lies Obscured and blew all away as soon as Warrel hit his first note. He is an amazing vocalist and back then yes he could hit those notes live.
Love these guys!!! I normally not into the whole King Diamond,Bruce Dickinson etc etc. i actually would cringe listening to bands like that....but this guy is the first to use it correctly! His voice is so powerful and i like how he blends some screams and growls and harsh with the high vocals...that sounds amazing and his range is amazing! I cant forget the band , they were a well oiled machine and had some great riffs as well!! I thought these guys were kinda discovered by Dave Mustaine? Idk maybe not..thought i heard that back in rhe day!!!; Refuge Denied is one of the best metal albums of the 80s: least top 50
Good remix and remaster! As an audio engineer I love this shit! This further proves that just about any old material can be salvaged and given a polish, regardless of format. So many bands just won't take the time to do it even though it's not a prohibitively expensive process (except in extreme cases).
I just got Inception from my music store Manifest Records a few days ago and it is amazing!!! I have always loved Refuge Denied and Into The Mirror Black albums big time. Sanctuary is one band that I wish never broke up in the early 90's because I think they could have been Huge. I know that Warrel Dane and Jeff Loomis did really well with Nevermore, but I just could not get into that band. When I heard that Sanctuary reformed a few years ago I was extremely happy. I never got to see Sanctuary with Warrel, but I saw them a little over a year ago opening for Iced Earth which I am a really huge fan of. The singer they got is Joseph Michael and he did an amazing job, but I don't think anyone could have sang the way Warrel Dane did in the 80's and early 90's. Not even Warrel himself could sing like that in his older years, but at least there was a time in his life that he was one of the most PHENOMENAL singers ever!! Rest In Peace Warrel
See.. THIS RIGHT HERE! THESE ARE VOCALS. THAT'S FCUKING TALENT. 20000000X better than any death metal vocalist EVER. To each their own, I'll say that, but my God! How can someone NOT like this better than Cannibal freaking Corpse style vocals? There is no comparison!
Tanto o sanctuary como o nevermore e outras bandas de trash metal que não fizeram sucesso por causa de outras bandas mais conhecidas não mereceram o reconhecimento de teriam que merecer
Honestly and sadly, nothing! Sanctuary is/was one of my all time faves, but no new band really sound like this. Some older classic bands from the same era had somewhat similar vibe - at least vocally, like Helstar, Realm, Agent Steel, Have Mercy... One newer band playing more technical thrash, Immaculate, is really kickass! Dunno where they have disappeared though? :(
Never heard of Immaculate, listened all day, freakin' awesome! I'm a huge Fates Warning fan; so, when I heard the cover they did, they sold me right there.
That's because "Inception" is just a collection of songs recorded on a demo in 1986, re-released with enhanced quality in 2017. Lenny Rutledge found the original master recording in his garage, so they decided to take it to a recording studio and remaster it.
So, for the record... this is basically the demo version of "Battle Angels"? Because, the riffs are very much alike, but the lyrics and vocal lines changed - for obvious reasons :D love it!
1986 And not written about what you think you hear I would say. Wally is just playing on words to get you to talk. Listen to other songs later. He always puts a piece of his life in his lyrics. He is playing and having a blast doing it! Those were great times!
Sounds exactly like veil of disguise. Some parts anyway..this is what we get? Remixed demos. I love sanctuary and I love nevermore. You wet our beaks every three years with new shit and its another three or four years. Warrel is lazy. Simple as that.
the lyrics are dumb, especially paired against the lyrics warrel usually writes, which are profound. Imagine how much good music we would have if he worked half as hard as corey taylor. obsidian came out in 2010 we have one bloody album from him. I used to arrive 2 hours early at best buy for the three copies the store ordered not anymore. I grew tired of waiting. there is no incentive to put out albums anymore, there is no money in it.
stone cold dude give him a break he is in his 50's, he has a life, of course he is going to be a bit slow. At first, I wasn't sold on the lyrics either, but after a few listens I do, this is straight up heavy metal and I like the I don't give a shit what you think edge and attitude to it. And its refreshing, and not some rehashed edgar allan poe shit that he used to write in Nevermore and some of the latest Sanctuary record. Regardless, Warrel is one of the GOAT as a vocalist, and for that I'll understand and give him a pass on his slow output.
Man, this song is damn good. Vocals are incredible! But the lyrics... F**k... They´re are so terrible, that i find incredible that Century Media decided to release that with so much artists trying to show better stuff...
Man, sorry if my opinion bothers you, but as i said... It´s old stuff, and it´s preety much obvious that Warrel Dane has grown a lot as a lyricist. Compared to Nevermore, this shit sucks.
I think that they are just trying to sell Sanctuary as something still incredible. This old stuff of Sanctuary is not that much. It´s nothing special. Not, bad, but nothing out of this world. I like the riffs, the instrumental part, and Dane´s vocals, but the lyrics sucks for me. People will say: "But Heavy metal have lyrics like that" or "Sanctuary is all about that style"... Great man! If you like, buy the stuff. But i will just wait more years for a reunion of the "The Greatest Band That Alcohol Ever Ruined" .
Hahahahahaha compared to give the gift of sacred sex... Just got back from your youtube profile and now i understand why you think that shit is pure gold! Screw you man, and everything you THINK you know about Warrel Dane. You stupid little PoS, close minded thrash metal fan... You´re one of those guys that think bands like Gamma Bomb are awesome and are keeping the real Thrash metal alive hahahahahaha Nevermore is way more greater than Sanctuary could ever be!!! You just got to see this absolute old school b-side shit because Nevermore is gone. Period.
Apparently the "girlfriend" never actually made it to the cult as she and her new husband were killed by a trucker serial killer while hitchhiking their way to Georgia.
Warrel sounded so much better at the time. The power in his voice was amazing and much more variabel. Too sad that he cant sing like this nowadays. But to be fair, we all are getting older :p
Because I was in the right place, at the right time, and at the right age, Sanctuary will forever be among my favorite bands EVER. I saw them live at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, around 1987 or 1988. They were the opening band. I had never heard of them before. Я не представляю, что ты чувствовал, когда лицезрел этих парней на сцене вживую. Если я каждый глядя на них на экране ловлю мурашки.
They were a fantastic band, Warrel was one hell of a vocalist! Nevermore was an even better band! Warrel Lost his way with the vocal ability later on though, but there was a golden age with Nevermore where he could blend highs and lows excellently!
R.I.P. Warrel, your music, voice and lyrics will be remembered forever more!!
Recorded in 1986, and it sounds better than most metal released today....
Remastered to be released on the new album...didnt sound like that on cassette back in 86!!!
Beat out all metal released today. Which proof that 80s was the best fucking time.
The original demo was a tad faster and I prefer it that way.
Sounds better than ALL releases of today. There's no place for modernity in heavy metal.
That Sanctuary sound! I miss the primal scream and the passion of the 80's scene.
At the time, Warrel and Jon Oliva was the top of heavy metal vocals. RIP Warrel, get well soon Jon!
Jon Oliva is a monster on vocals, and then his brother on guitar, both are 2 of the greatest
@@zachgorman534 e ambos subestimados, Sanctuary e Savatage mereciam mais reconhecimento
oh really, not they werent but what about Tate of that period?
This is how I will always remember Warrel Dane.
me too
As long as the echoes that "seven tongues of god" left as precious inheritance!..
This video is a true portal to the old days of heavy metal, the soul can feel this awesome power !
it sure can for eternity in hell, no wonder i cant stop listening to it
This is real metal!
awesome
His voice was beautiful, wonderful, powerful.. every1 can play instruments but vocals determine the songs' beauty..

Warrels voice is awesome, like a lightning cold as hell
OMG ❤
I haven't heard this song, ever. I know them, Sanctuary and Nevermore but this is my first time with this song.
I love it
❤❤

Grande Warrel Dane R.I.P durma em paz junto com essa sua grande voz!!

Sanctuary is far better than nevermore...
Indeed my friend
Nope, but they did release two amazing albums. I also wish Dane had kept his vocals in shape so that it didn't sound like he was straining so much to reach the higher end. Prefer his stylistic change with Nevermore for the most part, but his upper range was just mostly shot by the time DHIADW arrived.
@@Neonmirrorblack Hard to keep that voice, he was a bass baritone. Super deep voice.
@@zachgorman534 I liked Nevermore better. I’m a HUGE Warrel fan, but after he ditched the falsetto mostly, he became much more distinctive
Metal bands always make the best love ballads

Insane voice......Warrel !!!

Leon Stone I can't say for certain but I think so

some of their demos were amazing. too bad they only played some once or something live...
