Actually loved this. I've obviously heard for years and years about how he's into comics and toys but I never knew fully to what extent, I wasn't expecting anything like this, and I still didn't get to see any comics, just awesome though. I reckon he probably loved having the chance to show it off a bit too.
I love that you can pause the video at just about any point in the episode and zoom around the background to see any number of incredible things they didn’t even get a chance to talk about. It’s like the toy collector’s ultimate cabinet of curiosities.
There was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment where he points to a toy (IN BOX!) and says ‘there’s a transformers like toy’ and instantly moves on. I’m pretty sure that was a Soundwave-before-he-was-Soundwave. Ridiculous. I love it.
Knew he was a collector didn't;t realize how much of a comprehensive knowledge he had though pretty impressive was hoping he would mention Warren magazines with his Vampirella poster
I don't think Jonathan took a breath the whole episode!! If you want to know what passion looks like this is it. Incredible and good on him for living his best life.
Jonathan's one of those ultimate collectors that we all aspire to be one day. His collection is his personality, and his personality comes out in his collection. Its individual, Fantastic to see it.
As a tv presenter I went off Johnathan Ross years ago, but as a fellow toy collector, I could spend all day discussing toys with him. You gave him and his collection the attention they deserved - unlike Fiona Bruce on an Antiques Roadshow Toy special that was shown last month, in which she characteristically mocked him and gave him all of what, 5 mins airtime? My biggest regret was selling my 500 plus Action Man collection to Alan Hall....wish I'd never done it. Prices went up the moment I had sold them to him....if I ever become wealthy I shall buy up a shedload of mint items again....one can dream...
I think it was 3min 30s of Jonathan despite it being the lead in the Radio Times review and The Metro! It’s strange that action figure toys are still looked down upon on the Antiques Roadshow, they seem to prefer old stuffed bears and tin toys. The great thing about us being on UA-cam is we can dedicate an hour to a collection and try and go into some detail and it finds it’s audience. Thanks for watching.
@@SpoonJarFilms nothing strange about it. Action figures aren't anywhere near old enough to be considered 'antiques'. Old stuffed bears and tin toys are.
My respect for Jonathan Ross's toy collection and his knowledge has gone off the roof. Amazing how the person you least expect to be a toy collector is the uber toy collector.
@@leicestervintagetoyshop I’ve just watched this in full again today, and it’s absolutely fascinating, Rossy’s collection and knowledge is just off the scale. I am curious though - How did this come about? is Rossy a fan of the channel? Did he contact you, did you contact him? I feel he needs to do a few more guest appearances on your videos or should do a reverse where he comes to see you at the shop 👍 😁
I live in the states and my first introduction to Jonathan Ross was from a small clip of him on the Nirvana documentary: Live, Tonight, Sold Out. I never would have ever imagined that he was a fellow toy collector and artist. Mr. Ross comes across as a very passionate and dedicated collector. His collection showcases his keen eye for the art of vintage toys. Through his collection (as well as his own artistic contributions) he is providing a much needed service of preserving a great history. This was a brilliant video, well done!
Anime toy at 5:00 is Space Battleship Yamato (U.S. dub name Star Blazers), not sure of the iteration as there were feature films and a TV series (and later reboots which this isn't)
I knew Jonathan Ross was a comics guy but this was a lovely surprise! I recently purchased the marvel four part 'x men and the micronauts '. Never had any of the toys, though I do have a microman that wears a Godzilla outfit. Must have purchased it about ten years ago.
Truly brilliant! Gail Porter, Keith Lemon/Leigh Francis and Idris Elba are other celeb toy collectors and if you could book them as guests, it would be great!
58:00 OH GOD... I did that too... ...Bought the 1985 reboot of Wacky Packages, and the store still had a straggler of 1970s "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" gum cards. I bought them, was riding my bicycle home... almost veered off the road, spitting out the CRUMBLING, BITTER DUST that had been the stick from the Close Encounters one lol. I stopped my bike and laughed at myself.
Amazingly unpretentious guy! Huge collection to share and not a hint of snobbery. Plus the shout-outs to artists like Ken Kelly and AcroRay. Pretty impressed by his own customs. ( a lot of toy collectors could learn from this)
Absolutely fantastic episode. Brand new sub here from the States. Didn’t know what kind of gift the UA-cam algorithm gave me until a few minutes in. Jonathan Ross and his collection are fascinating. My new favorite channel. Cheers.
Does Jonathan sleep!?? How does he find time while holding a celeb career down. Absolutely amazing video and collection. Love his passion and it would take days to appreciate that collection fully. Thanks for sharing.
He is an extraordinary chap. Always busy yet amenable, kind and makes time for others. He made another video with us at the end of last year. See part 1 of our Italian Job special!
Wow, possibly the best video I've seen on you tube. Credit must go to the amazing production and the great Leicester team for actually letting him speak at length. I remember his anime program on channel 4 about 20 years ago when no one had heard of animie. Changed my life. Impossible not to instantly want an entire micronauts collection now. I thought I had heard of everything, I was wrong. Downside of such a great video is that micronauts prices are now virtually doubled.... sad face. Didn't he say he has another office? Part 2 please?
45:00 by the way, here's the full range of Dune toys based on the David Lynch movie... makes a remark and then moves along.....haha truly amazing collection
47:49 Nice to see the Wolverine from 'The Classic Marvel Figurine Collection' on the shelf - I think that might be the one we sent him when I worked on it at Eaglemoss.
Ridiculous!!!! What an episode!! I genuinely had no idea Jonathan Ross was a toy collector, how did this pass me by! I mean what collection 😮. Sooo many lines I didn’t know anything about or even existed! Crazy knowledge on Jonathan too! Loved it 👏👏

Jonathan has such a beautiful unique collection, and his knowledge of Japanese Toys is really vast and interesting. Thankyou guys for making this. I knew he was a massive Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager fan, but never knew of his Japanese animè obsession.
the diorama on the shelf early on is from ... space battleship yamato. i recognised matsumoto's character designs, and the katakana title is spottable.
Amazing, he seems like a really nice guy who obviously knows what he’s talking about, that was one hell of a collection and let’s face it if we had the means who wouldn’t have an “office “ like that!
I collect Crash Bandicoot figures and it's a tough, expensive thing to do. I can't imagine how much Mr Ross has spent on his collection, and I can't begin to fathom all the knowledge he has regarding obscure figure lines! It's hard enough to remember Crash Bandicoot merchandise! Haha!
