I know this comment is a year old, but congratulazioni! My entire mom’s side of my family is eligible for Italian citizenship, and it’s our goal to apply within the next 5 years. I know the cost varies, but if you don’t mind me asking, around how much did the entire process of becoming a citizen cost you?
How easy was it to apply? I was born in the uk to Italian parents. Both my parents are are married for 55 years and still have active Italian passports. I used to have an Italian passport also when I was a kid, but later changed to uk passport as an adult. Thanks
@@CyberWolfVR I obviously don’t know your whole situation, but it sounds like you are already a recognized Italian citizen or at least were at some point. You may just have to re-apply for a passport.
My mother was born in Italy and moved here as a child and after visiting Italy in the previous year, I really enjoy this channel as a way to prepare for possibly moving there in the future.
I concur. I live well not knowing I need a visa. I didn’t want to come here unless I could ensure this. It was easily the smartest decision I ever made.
The medical system can be slightly different depending on the region you are in. In Lazio, I've never had to pay anything for an emergency room visit. I also had my son in the hospital here. All prenatal visits & tests, ultrasounds, etc were covered with the exception of one round of blood tests, but the cost was minimal. Hospital stay for two days when my son was born cost €0. In Lazio, if you make under €7,500 a year you can get a risenzione which would give you a significant-total discount on certain tests. They don't give you tickets here in Lazio you just have a letter from the cittadella, but essentially the risenzione is automatically in the computer system & attached to your Tessera Sanitaria.
Having been born in one of the "six counties", also known as "Northern" Ireland, I already qualified for dual citizenship (Irish & British). Having lived most of my adult life in the U.S.A. & adopted two children there, they are perfectly within their rights to hold American passports also. We admired the patriotism shown by Americans on national holidays but one thing always puzzled us & the question could never be adequately answered by our American friends. If they were so proud of their country, why do they feel the need to preface their "American" heritage with often one or more other nationalities? It just seemed ludicrous. We have travelled further abroad than the 3 countries in which our family has 3 homes but have only encountered this phenomenon in the U.S.A.!! The usual rule is, the country of one's birth affords one's nationality. One thing we have encountered anywhere we've travelled where we meet Americans. Rather than just enjoying the local culture (usually the reason for travelling) is that Americans have to continually diminish the land to which they've travelled & compare everything as "less than" to the U.S. & the locals as somehow educationally impoverished. We love our American friends as family but this idea of U.S. tourists continually declaring their superiority is frustrating. The countries so many Americans seem to hold dear are Ireland & Italy & hoteliers & owners of B&B's in both countries have been known to actually bump prices up to get a literal "pay-back" for the put-downs they have to endure.
Sorry for this coming extremely late on your post 😅. America is very young, and is truly a nation of immigrants. I'm American, with mostly Irish and Italian ancestry (and dual citizenship because of family history). The way I see it, we are forging culture and living an experience here in the US that not many of our ascendants (if any, in some cases) share with us. We are looking for identity and commonality that bonds us together, and familial origins in a land with so many diverse ones is a way for many to build that bond and create a subculture with each other. That's my theory anyway. As far as the travelers, I can't stand our own American arrogance in that regard either. But that largely comes from blind patriotism we're raised with in our adolescence and the 'we're the greatest' ra-ra we're constantly reinforced every day from school, the news, and entertainment here. I hope that's a decent answer.
Just got my appointment at the LA consulate. March of 2022. Just in case anyone was curious of what the current waits are like. I've heard recently they've been bumping up appointments.
I believe it. My advice to anyone is this: call and make an appointment anyway and when they ask you if you’re ready, if all the documents are in order , tell them a resounding YES! While you wait it allows you to get everything done.
There should most definitely be something about gelato on your pizza, pasta, and amore shirt. Gelato is in my top five list of things I love about Italy. You just can't get it at that same level in the USA.
Haha let’s see, maybe there will be a new shirt but there already is a shirt dedicated to just gelato. I thought it at least deserved its own shirt haha
I have a question suddenly poped up in my mind, I don't know weather you know about it or not still asking- If I have 2 pasports and I go back home with passport of the 2nd home passport, Will that be a problem for me? Will I face immigration problem?
Hi Rafael! 14 days free education in the states?... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I'm laughing 😂😂💀💀 $4,000+ yup it's a joke,.... Well ya know haha. I'm loving the videos! Thank you! What is the time difference between Italy and Connecticut? I look forward to watching your videos every week! Your awesome 😊
Aloha Rafa, I just found you. I am considering dual citizenship and possibly making Italy my home in the future. I have a question, would I be required to disclose/state my net worth in order to become a citizen? Thanks, Rob
Wishing you all the best in your journey! Have you already made your petition for citizenship or are you still in the preparation stages? Either way be sure to keep me updated of how things go! ^_^
Considering it with Poland. Both grandparents were born there. Considering going for a masters and it's so much cheaper. That on top of if I ever need a major surgery could be a great benefit. You never know I love to travel not having to go through custom's with a united states passport is a benefit but possibly working abroad too.
Hey man what is the peculiarity with the Brazilian legal system. We are US by birth, Italian by blood and were considering going to brazil to give birth to give our kids Brazilian citizenship and naturalizing there.
Great info. My wife is interested in pursuing a career in the wine industry. The possibility of utilizing our dual citizenship may help. Will have to look into it.
I’ve actually spoken with a few people who’ve perused citizenship for the same reason. If you’re ever looking for someone to help you through the process feel free to contact me :)
My mom is from England and my dad is from Ireland. I've been of the opinion that I have to choose one or the other, but I can really just apply for both? Are there downsides to applying for both?
Dual or multi passports is a privilege that too few have nowadays. This is due to the outdated nineteenth-century governance of countries. Like it or not, I think that in the near future a wider freedom of movement and residency should be allowed worldwide, if we wanna have further progress and growth.
Sounding like a slave trader haha But the further that humans spread, the more resources are consumed... so it might seem that by spreading out one resource, others may dwindle
@@RafaelDiFuria On the contrary. Assuming humans as rational beings, they tend to shift toward places that provide them with more food, i.e. money, and supposedly happiness. Otherwise not so many South Americans would disturb Trump's dreams. We consume too many resources just because we move them inefficiently. Rafael! Ciao - Love your videos but have a question. We just became dual citizens and we want to take Italian Language lessons when we return next year and stay in one place. Ciao Rafael..Like Ilene said above, I am very interested in improving my Italian as soon as I get my dual citizenship. We will be visiting again in spring 2020. Please give us your insight into language lesson costs and access for citizens.
It's tough as an American because you have to pay taxes to America no matter where you live once you've gone a certain level in your income. That's why the number of people surrendering their American citizenship has gone up and from what I understand you have to pay a massive amount to get the American citizenship rid of and used to be the government would let you pay a giant fee but what I've heard is if you give up your American citizenship, you still have to pay 10 years' worth of taxes before you're free from the burdens of American citizenship. Let me know if this is true.
Ask Roger Ver. He's presently sitting in a Spanish jail cell awaiting extradition to the USA. The allegation being made by Uncle Sam is that Roger underpaid his expatriation taxes when he renounced his US citizenship years ago. So yeah, it's potentially very expensive to renounce your citizenship as a US citizen & the authorities seem to take it very seriously if they think they didn't get every single last cent they think they're entitled to.
I was officially approved to be an Italian citizen 2 days ago. I've already got my appointment set up for next month to get my passport. I have so many questions and so much going through my head now. I'm not even sure where to begin.
