The only problem was while he described certain sections of Medellin that are popular & need to go checked out, I could not understand due to the Spanish dialect. This was very disappointing, so, unfortunately, missed out on some valuable information. But other than that, these videos are very appreciated by travelers. It's so critical to realize the importance of staying safe when in a foreign land; the art/science of preventing having your trip from being destroyed & turned into an instant nightmare!
Get two hotel rooms. Never bring a guest or even your "gf" to your main pad. Never spend the whole night with a chick you've known less than a month. Do 'em and be done. Over 100 Americans murdered in Mexico alone every year. State Dept has stats on website by country. Check it out. Do not tell anyone where you work or what you do. Just say you are unemployed right now. I had my credit card stolen while showering. It cost me $7,500. Pitch went on a round the world vacation! Few days later had 3 guys following me at night trying to jack me for a $40 fake rolex.
I was beat up and robbed in a cab in Bogotá November of 2020. I will never return to colombia ever again. We appreciate the pointers you are giving us, however I can not enjoy a vacation looking over my back paranoid if am being targeted. There’s safety in numbers (hanging out with other expats and tourists) and using street smarts (even if you have to get that knowledge from people that have been knocked around a bit).

Excellent advice, too many guys traveling to Latin America with the wrong head doing the thinking. For sure most times your time will be safe however there are definetly people that earn a living from scamming or robbing tourists and they will be in the clubs

hi I'm going too Barranquilla Colombia i have a few questions on my 8 days trip and how much money should i be carrying and is it better to rent a car or just travel by taxi
if they choose you it's almost impossible to stop them. one of my good friends who grew up here used to do it (scolopamin (SP??)) and would just walk by someone with tons of jewelry and blow just a tiny amount into their faces. Then he would wait a bit and rob them. He told me the best way to not become a victim is to not hang out in tourist areas ( el poblado ).

Just don't go to clubs. If guys are looking to get in relationships just don't go out at night. Try and find a girl in the day. Join salsa clubs join yoga class and maybe get in social clubs in Colombia. Just go out in the day and avoid the night.

I visited Medellin a couple of times; I always felt reasonably safe. However I did not look for women. I generally never do on travels. It is asking for trouble, also asking trouble with authorities. In 2019 I did meet however a woman in Medellin during a festival and she took sort of advantage of me, teh arrangement was that she taught me Spanish, although I did not mind and her lessons were fun. She did not abuse me; I was never robbed or drugged; I was just expected to be generous. Every time I visited the city I also visited her and her family. At least they looked like her family. I spent good times with her although I never expected a real love relationship. During the pandemic when I was back in Europe I think she got into trouble. Her phone numbers changed very rapidly an number of times and the conversations changed into emotionally black mailing me into sending large sums money. I declined because the conversations did not sound like her and one time whatsapp showed a different person and we lost contact. She lived in Bello in a rough area. It kind of felt horrible. But so it goes. I hope she survived.
