  • "So, how do you deal with your worries then? Well, Paul's counsel: 'But in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.' So what do you do? Well, firstly, let Him know. Are you weak and heavy-laden? Take it to the Lord in prayer. Bail it out. Don't keep it to yourself. Don't bottle it up in a 2 o'clock-in-the-morning tossing and turning. Have you trials and temptations? Take it to Him! What a privilege to carry everything to the Creator of the universe in prayer." - Geoff Thomas

This is what I call sermon crafted by Holy Spirit. Love this kind of preaching... humble, encouraging, fatherly, biblical. Not typical american "power of God is in loudness"... this is very good.

Well, if God is an experience that includes this peace that passes understanding then you pray and absolutely nothing happens to you, how does that work in reality? Please give an honest answer.

Worry and anxiety disorder are 2 different things.
I believe he's talking about worry here.
You can't do anything about anxiety. It's a disease like all the others.

Would you agree that we must derive our understanding and perspective from the Scriptures? That God's Word is our standard and informs us how we should conduct ourselves? If so, please humbly consider that the Word does not say "you can't do anything about anxiety" but commands us in Philippians 4, "do not be anxious about anything", and Paul doesn't then say, "you can't do anything" but instructs us on what to do, "but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." So I encourage you to please listen to Geoff's sermon; you will find great eternal truths-embrace them-believe them-God's Word is to be believed, not reasoned away.

Respectfully, God never calls anyone to repent of illness. He never commands a person not to be ill. Yet he commands repeatedly in his Word not to be anxious. Anxiety is not something a person has. Anxiety is something a person does.

      @dudeman-nathan completely agree.
Anxiety comes from chemical imbalances most of the time.
Just like Cushing disease. You have a tumor on the adrenals, this stimulates the adrenals to produce huge amounts or cortisol and adrenaline which gives you anxiety.
It has nothing to do with worry or thoughts.
In the same way you cannot control cancer , you can't control anxiety.

@@illbehonest So if I may ask, all the distressed prayer in Psalm, would that fall under anxiety? Or, they wouldn't be sin because all of them are expressed to God? I guess, is there distinction between anxious feeling vs, response to anxious feeling? This world is full of troubles, many things may make us feel anxious, is the feeling anxious the sin or the response to feeling anxious?

@@a.krishna3924 Nobody was indwelt by the Holy Spirit before the resurrection (John 7:39).
Being indwelt by the Holy Spirit is the definition of a Christian (Romans 8:9).
"PEACE" and "JOY" are fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Anyone with chronic anxiety has not been born again/born of the Spirit and is still nurturing sin in their life rather than repenting (RENOUNCING) sin.
God cannot look on sin and so that's why people are anxious: they have no fellowship with God.
Another reason people get anxious is lack of trust in God and refusing to submit their will to Him.
Jesus was content doing Father God's will.
A lot of people believe Satan's LIE that they will be miserable if they submit to God.
It's a lie because we are MADE to walk in communion with God (just as Adam did before the Fall and that's why Jesus is the final Adam: 1 Corinthians 15. Because through his life, death and resurrection he enabled that broken relationship to be restored.
Hence why it talks about RECONCILIATION in Paul's epistles).
