Thanks for these videos, really useful. On my 3rd Open Reach appointment for a bridge tap, battery fault, RF interference and now another bridge tap so interesting to see why all these go wrong in crowded environments!
Its the same with anything like this. I have a rack to rewire this weekend, once something like this hits a certain age, has been disturbed so many times you end up causing issues every time you do something. The roadside cabs you don't have the luxury or ripping it all out and starting over.

This is my second video I am completely fascinated as to what this is used for I get the impression of some sort of events based distribution. I've seen nothing that's going over how DSL works as well as the last two videos I've seen. Copper still has quite a few advantages like the ability to keep a communication device up with a centrally located battery, there are some more event-based fiber solutions but you still dealing with needing to make sure all the ends and cabling is treated right.
Exactly what we use it for
In reality copper can power an old analog phone, but nobody has them. Even who still has a landline phone as a cordless nowadays and that still need line power to make it work. In my country with VDSL lines they even dismissed the analog signal completely, switching everything to VOIP, and analog landline phones (for who still uses them, most of the people doesn't even have it connected because you get only spam calls) are plugged into the router.
In that regards, VDSL could be worse than fiber. Fiber network doesn't need power, the distribution is all passive, as long as you have an UPS in your home and there is an UPS and backup generators in the telephone exchange the connection will remain up. I doubt for VDSL, all these cabinets that are installed in the streets are clearly grid powered (you can see an electricity meter box next to most of them) and if they have battery inside they probably can keep the connection running for no longer than a couple of minutes, maybe half an hour.

@@alerighi yeah scam calls are annoying there's an easy fix for that it's called modems and fax machines. Then they immediately stop calling that number. I was shocked to find out there's some cordless phones with battery back ups somebody gave me an old set that had a door in the cradle for a battery. Generally the mass public now doesn't know this and just assume cordless phone > Jack. Yes over here in the US we really should've been upgrading our networks with fiber to just that point. I hear in other countries they have fiber with earthquake alarms that are like smoke detectors that take a small battery and connect to the fiber. In someway the newer fiber systems with mini UPS units is actually making a more distributed system. At least in the US telephone (and cable/ some voip providers now) system is considered emergency communications and this is mandated to have back up to the point where they will run around and plop down generators at those cabinets. Subsequently for a long time phone and DSL would remain up and cable Internet will go down during a power outage, until cable operators were mandated after they started offering VOIP.

Curious that you still use analog phone in combination with VDSL. In my country for VDSL contract they no longer gives you the analog line, but instead they give you voice service trough VOIP (in the modem/router they give you you have a couple of analog output, or you can use whatever VOIP phone you want in reality). It's probably way cheaper this way, since everything is VOIP and you just need to run fiber to the cabinets.
Also you avoid potential interferences with the line, especially with houses with multiple phone points. In fact it's advised to get the best signal to cut off every other phone point from your installation, and basically have the cable that comes into your home plugged into the modem.
This is the way things are going here. However in this application on an event site it means just two UPSes on a 600 acre site can keep phones going when everything else fails
Hopefully the copper telephone lines will be going away to be replaced with FTTH.

Pretty impressive. But I can't understand how ISP's allocate phone numbers to their customers. Because our landline phones are pretty old tech. I can understand how VDSL and ADSL works. You get a PPPoE or PPPoA authentication and magic happens. But landline is still not so bright on me yet.
The number is assigned at the exchange upstream from the DSLAM. How that is done depends on what that exchange is. In our case its a SIP to POTs gateway that allows us to bind a SIP trunk to an analog line.
NICE, I need one of those to give to my ISP so they can upgrade my service from the 6/1mbit to a 25/3mbit DSL line.... if only they would give me unlimited access to their cabinet for a couple weeks, I would have them selling bonded service that isn't fed by 8x T1/E1 lines -.- EFF US ISPs!! if mine wasn't declaring bankruptcy at the moment, I would try to apply for a job.

Not Easily. I hadnt realised I'd done it. Future clips will address this as a Editing system is on today's to do list.
The ADSL modem that is connected by the DSLM disconnects after a few minutes, what could be the problem
It could be excessive noise on the line. Most modems will time out if data loss becomes too great and try a reconnect. You'll see repeated PPP disconnects and timeouts *if* your modem logs this sort of thing.

Not that I'm aware of here. However Vdsl here is now considered a dead end as we are moving to full fttp

I don't have the file nor do I know if the CCUE firmware can even be backed up
The upcoming ban on Huawei in the UK, is BT replacing all those Huawei units?
The ban is quite carefully worded and seems to only cover 5g. Most of BTs street cabs are Huawei so it would be an enormous undertaking to strip them all out. Especially as the whole cab has to be replaced not just the innards

When I'm provided with concrete evidence AND Juniper, Cisco et all stop the "whoops they fond a back door" urgent security updates I may consider it. Also, and people don't realise this, the market for telco grade dslams is tiny wit three or four players

Im not quite sure what you are trying to say. This would normally be in the FTTC cabinets.
Can you tell me every piece of equipment you have? I plan to start my own IP Communications Company System and that. Can I use CAT 8 cords also for the Communications? Because if you look at where I live which is Louisa County Virginia USA none of the people outside of the town get DSL. Yes its THAT BAD!
We have quite a large amount of kit, no event site is the same. However 90% of it is imported from the US The Versas were sourced from Ohio if I recall correctly. However they will be retired in favour of the Huawei units next season. I can see three Huawei SmartAX units up for grabs over there now including one of the the pole mount units

first of all to say good evening and tell you this thing will happen to you if i put such a device it will play that there is no dslam here in the area three kilometers from the node
Not sure I follow. Ill be remaking this video in the next few days. The DSLAM, or at least, this kind of unit, is supposed to be in your local FTTC node. The unit I'll be doing the next clip of will be clearer as its the very same unit used by many providers. This is then connected normally via PON to the next fibre node in the chain and eventually back to the exchange.

I have been working for years but there is no infrastructure to do it
from time to time some complaints but they do not do their job

Also i wannt you to confirme an idea that if i have a dslam as yours so i just hook lan from my internet network then i can shareit it via vdsl copper to the end modem.... I have 900m distance of 2 building and i wanna make connectionbetween them, any idea i will be happy
The plan is to do a new video. We updated our kit and I want to do a full run through on the setup. Its a big setup though so it's having a few free days to do it. The plan was to use one of our large events over the summer and do the video with a live system but with everything cancelled.. What you propose is perfectly doable, its down to the setup of the DSLAM and how you want to present the service.

Dude why do you have all this gear you are planning to become local ISP or what ?
We do event communications for massive events. VDSL is way more robust than WiFi and you get a free phone with every endpoint.
