Such a great period in electronic music. The Orb, Orbital, 808 State, Aphex Twin, Ultramarine, The KLF' Chill Out album etc. One thing I love about this track: the dog samples are from the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper".
Yeah, brilliant time, if you could avoid the cheesy rave tunes! The Future Sound Of London, Orbital, Eat Static, Aphex Twin, The Orb, Leftfield, Boards Of Canada, Röyksopp….. it’s a veritable feast of sounds. And Chill Out by KLF is certainly one of my most prized CDs. Never managed to get that on vinyl.
In my opinion, you UK folks always made the BEST EDM, and still do actually. It may sound cringe, but as an American dood, that's one of the things I've always loved about you guys. Keep up the awesome tunes!
Nice one, Jim! I remember first hearing The Orb (A Huge Evergrowing Pulsating Brain... though at that time it was still called Loving You, I think) on John Peel one night. Transfixed. I imagine that you have the KLF 'Chill Out' album which is essentially Alex Paterson (from The Orb) remixed, reimagined or ripped off, whatever you prefer. Very similar to this. Meanwhile, this is what emerges when prog sleeps with reggae in a parallel universe.
Good old Orb. Apparently i got 27 (digital) albums by them (including some singels/remixes with of course the 40 minutes Blue Room single) Fav album "The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld", UfOrb comes in on strong 2nd :)
Several Orb albums (9) in my library including this one. Love this kind of music. The start of this album is hilarious. It’s from 1992. Similar to the Orb are: Solar Fields Ken Martin Future sound of London I’ll have my beer around 11 pm. It will be a Chimay Trappist tripel 9%
Dude.....Jesus, I saw them 5 times in the early '90's....Flipping excellent stuff....I still have a few cd's and they get an airing occasionally.....I also seem to have an eclectic taste.....I did dabble in this sort of stuff from '89 to mid '90's...Aphex Twin, System 7, Eat Static etc.... You used to get absolutely stoned at one of their gigs (or live "experiences") even if you weren't a smoker.... Haile Selaisse !!!! I remember that !! Hahaha !! Such chill out stoner ambient dub vibes from a really good decade of music.....You ought to have a listen to that Orb and David Gilmour "Metallic Spheres" album ??? Well worth a poke.... Dr Alex, that bloke from Sun Electric (well worth having a look at) and Youth from Killing Joke.....Fecking hell !!! And I've just been asked to turn the bass down on this as she's off to bed as she works early tomorrow....!!!!
Love the Orb, only have one album of theirs, a later double album called Moonbuilding 2703AD. Somewhat dark and mysterious. On a lighter note and going back in time a bit, Little Fluffy Clouds is a real classic. They provide for me, the same serene sensation that Brian Eno ‘s music does.
Still with you! 😁 "Don't know what to expect" indeed. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but once it settled into a groove I was on board. I was a fan of electronica from the 90s on, but I missed out on this group somehow.
Deep bass? Try Joe Jackson's The Band Wore Blue Shirts. A little more experimental than his usual stuff. The harmonica sounds in this remind me of JJ's song. The dog stuff reminds me of Timbuk 3's song Sample the Dog (an Austin, Texas band from the early eighties).
My fave electronic bands have a tiny bit of melancholy and/or aggression admittedly....I'm fans of Four Tet, Orbital .....and Underworlds Barking is brooding electronica at its best 🎹😎👌
Just OK Jim. Not really what helps me chill out. Prefer something like Partick O'Hearn, Kitaro, Ali Ferguson or Marco Ragni for my high times. But thanks for the effort.
Simply amazing
Greatest ambient dub track ever made.
Isn’t it!!!! Been listening to this for 30 years…. Now, that’s scary!
@@JimNewstead same m8.

They're great at a festival where they can really let that bass rip. Hits you right in the chest, shakes you to your boots.
I'm with you all the way, Jim! The Orb are tremendous and to think, this went to no. 1 in the UK chart. We did something right!
Awesome! Such a classic!!!!
In my opinion, you UK folks always made the BEST EDM, and still do actually. It may sound cringe, but as an American dood, that's one of the things I've always loved about you guys. Keep up the awesome tunes!
Thank you for introducing me the orb 😁
I love it!
Oh man!!! What a treat! You will love them. Glad you found The Orb, but even more so that I brought them to your attention!
@@JimNewstead I've already bought "the orb adventures..." and "Prism" on Vinal.
Mindblowing. Thank you once more
Great to hear this again, Jim. I love The Orb. Still making great music too. First heard them on the John Peel Show, in session, back in the day.
Very pleasant!
How could anyone complain about Dr. Patterson?! FSOL is amazing as well.
I saw them in 1993...so much dry ice!..great night
Nice one nice one... I just moved house and I'm unpacking a Giant's Causeway of boxes... Bring on the Orb!
It occurred to me to threaten time itself about its indulgent habit of progressing, inexorably, towards the end of songs...
Do the whole album!
Do it, Jim! Do it 👍🏻

Love me some Orb. The Blue Room full single got a ton of play in the early-90s and Auntie Aubrey's Vol. 1 is still a classic compilation.
Oh Pink Fluffy Clouds Blue Moon....it is one of my wife's old faves...I think that's only cd we have of theirs...
Little Fluffy Clouds was the single of their first album. It’s a great tune!

This track does remind me of a lot of early "dub" mixes groups experimented with early 80's?..still great group and sounds Jim.

Metallic Spheres is again an excellent record. The inclusion of David Gilmour is inspired.

The groove is hypnotic. It’s a great record if you give it a chance!
both the albums you mentioned are awesome!!, checkout the klf "chillout" aswell
I have Chillout on CD - I've had it since about 1991!

I see the Orb, I click
:settling in to listen:
You likened some of Olias to The Orb, who I have yet to check out. So, this is my opportunity.
Oh, this was fun!
A teeny bit repetitive. But I really enjoyed the groove.
Ooo...
For me, reminiscent of the ending of Jarre's Oxygène at the very end there.
It’s really good. As you say, great groove!
I'll have to look into this group further, really digging this. Made me want to listen to some De Facto
They have loads of records.
Yeah, love this album... You'll be reacting to Orbital or The Future Sound of London next! (Break out the Tangerine Dream, too)
All very worthy contenders!
