thank you guys so much! you really helped me out of a bind. my PC wouldn't recognize my iphone to offload pics and free up space, to the extent that now my phone's storage is full and business is on hold. the solution: location and privacy settings reset. now, it's game on! have an excellent day!!

Just bought IPhone xr. It had my playlist from ITunes on it but no songs. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Apple. The 1st person had me to do everything but stand on my head and it still didn't work. She put her supervisor on the phone and she remoted in to my pc (windows 10) and also my phone. Still couldn't get it to work. Whenever I plugged my phone up, my pc nor my laptop would recognize my phone. I couldn't even import my photos. I looked at lots of UA-cam videos, but nothing worked. I tried what you guys said and here's what happened. I reset my privacy and location on my phone under settings-general-reset. I then restarted my phone. I went to the device manager on my pc and searched for Apple driver like you said. Then I completely uninstalled ITunes for the 20th time. I went in the Apple Store and downloaded it again. Was so afraid I was going to lose all my music in my library but when ITunes came back up everything was fine. Plugged my phone in and the option to import my pictures came up. went to ITunes and there was my phone icon. I synced my playlist and everything went fine. Thank you guys. There was another video that I truly believe had the same idea but unfortunately he didn't speak English too good and I couldn't understand what he was saying. Thank you again. You guys are truly experts. Apple would be lucky to have you on their team!

Thank you. iTunes updated on PC as you suggested and then, as part of this process, updated software on iPhone. It took a while for updates to install, but phone identified afterwards and videos etc. could be copied over to PC. Apple's on-line prompts followed to the letter.
I FINALLY FIXED MINE...i re downloaded itunes directly from the website, even though i already had the latest version. Installed it and as soon as i plug in my phone is said i needed an update to use the iphone X. (another update?) installed that updated and it WORKS! itunes now recognizes my phone and currently am restoring it.

This video helped me in a minute. I had already tried everything but looking in the mac finder for the phone and trusting it. That was all it took. Should have come here first!

I got it to work after like a hour of fiddling by updating a driver. Check your drivers, my laptop was recognizing the phone but iTunes wasn’t. If you want to know how go to >Device Manager >Universal Serial Bus devices > and I updated all drivers from there and one ended up needing to update fixing my problems

You seemed to focus on PCs... what about MacBook users???
If your phone is recognized but iTunes isnt showing it, it might be because you have another usb plugged in. I took out my mouse usb, took the charger out of my phone then put it back in, and it worked.
After screwing around with this for the last few days and contemplating a trip to the Apple store, hitting Reset Location & Privacy did the trick for my brand new XR - much appreciated!

After the last update, my iphone 7 no longer works for Carplay in my car and it is not recognized when I plug it into my macbook. I tried all these suggestions to no avail.
Windows 10 PC none of the Apple programs showed on my :Uninstall aor change program" menu
After days of trying, (including Apple Support), I discovered Start/Select "iTunes" from the All program list, right click, Select "Uninstall" and that wiped iTunes.
Then downloaded/installed iTunes, and all content retained, (Music and Backups etc.) and iPhone recognised on iTunes!!

It works! This entire time I thought something was wrong with my computer.
May i suggest another tips for Windows user, if you still can't connect after trying all the above but noticed you are missing the "apple mobile device USB driver" you can get it fixed by disconnecting from your account in iTunes and then use another iPhone to connect. I had that problem after updating to iOs12 after i plugged my wife's iPhone the driver got installed et fixed everything

Anyone having a problem with your iTunes recognizing an iphone x s or s max , it’s most likely because you’re running a version of iTunes that was written before these devices existed and therefore your new phone may as well be some android phone because it will not recognize it. Just update iTunes and it should work fine
Everything is updated but still tells me that the iPhone “disconnected from iTunes” any idea with the issue?

*FIXED* after trying eveything and nothing working i figured it out. If you don’t have apple mobile device driver update the driver for apple mobile device multiplexer and make sure you download itunes from apple and not microsoft store
Universal seriel bus controllers worked for me and iv been looking everyone and all the vids were saying go into portable devices and update the driver which did not work

I found the fix. If you update from app store on mac most likely its corrupted. Re download and install a fresh copy of 12.8 from the official website apple.com. Once it installs, open itunes and connect iphone. Now! It will prompt you that in needs to install a driver for iphone to work! Done deal :-)

You probably found your answer already, but just in case this helps someone else: mine wasn't under universal serial bus controllers, but under "mobile phones" (probably not exactly what it says but my pc is in French) which is the first slot that appears (at least for me it's in first since it starts with an A in French, might be further down but look for something phone related and not just usb related). After that, you can do as said in the video. Hope this helps!

@@erijonmehmedi I hunted the internet for days - uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading patches, changing settings, turning phone on/off a dozen times or more...nothing helped. One site said to try holding the on/off button AND the volume button on your iphone at the same time to power it off(mine's a iphone7). I tried that and it worked!! Have not had any other issues since. Good luck.
I've have done everything on here and hoping you guys can help. My stupid iphone restored itself and now I'm trying everything to get it back. My phone will say it is charging when plugged into my HP and I've done the rest thing for "trusting the device." I also hear a sound from my computer when plugged in. Problem I'm having is my iphone is not showing up anywhere as plugged in on my computer....please HELP!!

Hi, my itunes on mac doesnt recognise my iphone xs. I have recently change my phone. I did every possible way, but no joy. Everything is up to date. I followed the steps of deleting lockdown files. Now it works for my photos but not itunes. Itunes can detect my iphone 6 tho.

John Brake take it to apple, they can do it for you, they helped me and it’s free. Well connecting to iTunes was free but idk about your home button issue

I upgraded to the latest iTunes (12.9.1.4) from one version back on my Windows 10 PC. That's when the problem first appeared. I then upgraded to the latest iOS (12.1) from one version back on my iPhone 7, restarted my PC and iPhone, reset the setting, etc; no joy. Downloading the latest Apple device driver fixed the problem. Nothing in the upgrades and installations indicated that I needed a new driver.
@@80cardcolumn Where can download the latest driver? I see people are using 3.0, my computer says 2.0 so i'm guessing that's the problem?
