@@finalascent I just found out she passed today ): I have every recording from her long career - 1977-2012. Just loved her! (: So sad about her passing.
I met Nanci one night in a bar somewhere. We sat at a small bar table for well over an hour and talked. Nanci was quiet and reserved and just listened. There was never a hint as to her fame. I asked her if she had ever stayed at the Grande Hotel in Point Clear, AL. When she responded "no", I proceeded to describe it to her. My description was rather lengthy covering the venue on beautiful Mobile Bay, the oaks with Spanish moss, etc. It was getting late and Nanci finally graciously excused herself saying she had an early flight the next morning. Several years later, I was watching ACL and I recognized her. She sang Late Night Grande Hotel and on the intro she dedicated it to me and credited me with giving her the title. The video is available, Season 17, Episode 1 Songwriters Special and her intro is at 20.07. Ironically, the first line of the lyrics speaks of working on an early flight to anywhere but here. RIP dear, sweet Nanci. I'll never forget that night.
When she broke through with from a distance the record companies beat a path to her door and she said no to everyone one of them her bohemian roots were very to her. She stuck to the nashville folks and there was a beautiful purity to her voice.
After watching nancy griffith from a distance on tv last night on rte. This is her most revealing song. She never let anyone into her life. Always kept her distance. In 1996 she went into her home. Shut and bolted the door and never came out. One of her friends Rodney crowell said that any enquiries that he made were quietly spurned by her family.
very saddened to hear of her death , this song always had a personal meaning for me for years , I hope she passed in peace ..from where she was always welcomed and visited regularly ,Ireland
The time and place I was when I first listened to this song is always evoked every time I hear it. This song is reminiscent of it in a way that all of her songs are. It's like she was watching my life, telling my stories in her songs. No one else will ever be able to do that like Nanci did.
Love love love this song....and this beautiful singer. Sad doesn't begin to describe how I feel on hearing of her passing. Heartbroken at the end of yet another musical era. I began my love affair with your music when I first heard you play “Listen to the Radio” on the Today Show in the late 90’s. Storms was my first of your many recordings. Nanci, you will be forever missed. 😢❤️
Many years ago, they played this song on late night radio. I asked for the album for my Xmas. Ended up buying her whole back catalogue. Seen her live twice in Glasgow and at Edinburgh Castle. Love her. This song and "Southbound Train" 2 of my favourite all time songs.

This song grabs me emotionally every time I hear it, and I play it a lot! 💔

About the same here
"What's that noise Dad?" "That's called talent son, it used to be popular."
That’s about it !
Hear hear. Top comment.
For sure, my dad introduced me to her music, we even saw her. Still love her music today, I am sad she's gone now
No autotune necessary here. This is a masterclass for today's so-called singers. God rest her soul. 😪

In a perfect world, this song would have been a huge hit.
I remember back when it came out, I loved watching this video on vh1.. simpler times
It was for me.
In a perfect world, this would have much better production, and it could've had a shot. The symphony version of it sounds fantastic.
In my world it still is a massive hit.
