Still using my 2010 Toro 22"recycler front wheel drive, runs like a dream, just regular maintenance each season and no problems, and only wear if any besides the front wheel wear, the Trailing Shield, is cut here and there from going backwards and got stuck and blade took a little bit of plastic, bag still good, chute good, overall 10/10, fresh paint under the deck as rust prevention. love my 190cc engine, carburetor strong as no plastic.

I have a Poulan pro 22 inch front wheel self propelled mulcher bagger side discharge with the 6hp from the early 2000s and it's a fantastic mower. It still runs and cuts like the day I got it, I do like you maintain all my equipment regularly. It still starts on the first pull. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. I've been using Toro mowers since the early 1990s. My experiences have been very similar to what was mentioned in this video. The best 21" mower Toro has made is the current commercial 21" series that first came out in 2014 and continues today. Equipped with either the commercial Kawasaki FJ180v or the Honda GXV160 engine, they are incredible mulchers and very good baggers' wet or dry. They are heavy due to the fact that they're built like tanks but very durable and efficient. The only problems I've had with them are:
    1. When mulching damp/wet grass, it spits clippings behind the left front wheel. Then, your left rear wheel goes over those clippings and they get stuck on the rear left wheel. This then requires you to go back over those clumped clippings.
    2. Cost...Boy have these commercial 21" gone up a lot in price the past few years. I live in Canada. A few years back, you could get a commercial 21" for $1500-$1800 depending on the model. Now, the same mowers are up around $2500-2700. That's double the price of the Super Recycler you have in the video.

I feel as if this video was talking to me directly! I have an 8 year old Craftsman push mower with a Briggs 163cc/7.25 engine. I know it's a "craftsman" and not up there with the high end mowers but it has really served me well. I have done all the things necessary to take care it. Here recently I had to replace the plastic carburetor and the front wheel assembly is starting to separate from the mower deck. I have thick St. Aug. and have been wanting to upgrade to a more top end mower. Since seeing the new Toro Super RecycIer I have been really leaning towards purchasing one but after watching this video plus others like it with the same views. I am having second thoughts, The Toro is definitely pricey and don't want to buy another mower for 8 more years!
But these days is anything built like things used to be(?)
Things are being made with less quality parts at outrageous price points.
Thank you for the video it was classic!👍🇨🇱

This is the first video I've found on the super recycler.
I was just giving one of these mowers and still mine seems different than all of these.
Mine is an older 22" 6hp personal pace super recycler. It does have a primer bulb and does not have a choke. It has the chute made into the deck for the bag attachment. It doesn't have a side discharge made into the side of the deck. It doesnt have the bar for adjusting the cut height. Instead, it has an adjustment at each wheel and markings lettered ABCDE for the height.
I have two problems. 1 is that i can't figure out to open the chute to attach the bag. My 2nd problem is that reverse doesn't seem to work because i litterly have to drag the mower backward.
Im not sure of the year model. However, it does start easily and cuts great

Great video & information! Purchased our 2005 commercial recycler about 3 weeks ago & it cuts great, especially on our bermuda. Does well on mulching of our fescue too, but not a fan of the low max HOC. The mower is heavy & somewhat cumbersome if need to mow around obstacles, but becoming more adept on handling the mower. Still looking for a bag for our mower, but nothing yet, which may be a deal killer on keeping the mower. It is a beast & will mow just about anything w/o an issue. Like the guys said, if can find one of the older models & keep them in shape, then they should last even longer.

Now, me being a Snapper guy, i would suggest that if 1 of your local subscribers had a few Hi-Vacs and Ninja walk-behinds of various vintages, that could be another interesting one. You could really end up in the weeds with really old Snappers, where you might come across one with a 2-cycle Robin engine, or a Tecumseh engine that you haven't seen in a long time.

I had a 1993 Super Recycler for 20 years and gave it to a friend when the drive cable broke. The new 2013 Recycler unfortunately came with plastic gears on the wheels that wear out eventually. After researching I changed to the wheels with metal gears but had to change the pinion gears to match the wheel gears. There’s still some gear slippage occasionally and I’ll probably have to replace the pinion gears or wheels or both eventually. I think in 2014 Toro changed back to metal gears in the wheels.

I like your idea of moving pull rope to the left side. I will do the same. On my 2016 Personal Pace Super Recycler, I just replaced the Recoil/Blower Shroud because the rope wore through the metal ring and caused a notch to appear in the plastic housing. The rope would catch in the notch and get stuck. The shroud cost $55.22 + tax. Thankfully it was less than a 5 minute fix. And also it includes a new rope and coil installed so that has been replaced before it actually broke. My father and uncle have had two different Toro dealerships throughout my life. I’m 48 years old now and since I was a little kid I have been fortunate to have all Toro lawnmowers except only two. (1) MTD, (1) Craftsman (3) Toro. Update: ((optional add on) Toro part number 144-6377 traction assist handle kit) does fit all new Toro mowers that have the new baby carriage curved shape.
IMO you could make your own Toro's BTAH (Black Traction Assist Handle) from 2 pieces of wood in ((L) shape) and some bolts and washers.
Toro's BTAH converts Toro's PPM (Personal Pace Mowers) (which requires a person to push Toro's heavy mower forward before the self-propelled drive kicks in) to ((easily without effort) controlling Toro's self-propelled drive with just your fingers and hands without moving forward).
This is needed on steep hills where you need the Toro mower to pull you and this powerful mower up the hill without any effort on your part.
The powerful Toro mower can do this only with BTAH and not by Toro's PPM (extra exercise mode).
Without BTAH you end up pushing this heavy Toro mower up the hill.
Thank you for your help and understanding on this Toro (back breaking) mower issue.

Hi JB after watching you and Tom talk about the super recycler trailing shield I made an upgrade to my 2022 Toro 21564 like the one you have. I bought a Toro Time Master trailing shield part 120-6241 and with a couple of mods with a razor knife I have a great trailing shield.

The transmission gears in my Toro Recycler kept failing.

Was something in there ruining them?

No, and the first time it went out, when I took it a lawnmower repair shop there were others like it there with the same issue. It cost $100 to repair and after it failed in another 8 months or so I bought the repair kit online for $35 and fixed it myself, but the problem was that the gears appeared to be stamped out of sheet metal, and that one failed as well. I bought a Honda about 6 or 7 years ago, and it's been as reliable as a hammer.

Buffalo NY? Im right outside Syracuse. I have the Toro 22" Recycler with the Honda Motor, bought it brand new in 2020 and mine came with the side discharge. Best motor I have used in any push mower, bulletproof. Great stuff!

I have a super recycler bag just like that one shown for the 2004 commercial mower. I never use it. Sounds like it's worth some money. I am open to selling it.

Great video! As per your suggestion I just found Super Recycler GTS 6.0 with the personal pace on market place like brand new!! Only issue I see is setting the governor. (Over revving/bogging /hard starting). Looks like someone messed with the spring(s). Where would I find diagram and springs to set up the rpm properly? BTW love your channel!!

Hey Nancycaley! Awesome find! Perhaps you can find a manual online or take it to a local shop and see if they can help. Being that it’s an older model it’s a little tricky to find that information. Appreciate you my friend!
