30 year old woman. Just did this on my parents’ mower. Started up 1st crank afterwards. I cheered and was like Tom Hank’s in Castaway when he made fire, motioning to the neighborhood to admire what I did. LOL! So thrilled right now!!! 🤣
I was just as thrilled when it worked for me as well! My neighbor wanted to help but his wife told him "no, she said she wanted to do it herself. Give her a minute." And she was right. If I can fix it, what a sense of accomplishment! Congrats for fixing and getting it running just like new!

Oh my gawd… I bought a new Toro last year, “guaranteed start” 140cc model. Well, this year, I could NOT get it to start. I read the warranty, saw that if you left fuel in it longer than 30 days, it voids the warranty. Truth be told, I did not drain the gas tank last fall, totally my bad, and the main jet in the carburetor must have gummed up. I am halfway handy, but have never pulled apart a carburetor in anything and was a bit intimidated…but also did not want to pay $100 (give or take) to have it fixed. Saw this video, followed it exactly, and by gawd, it runs like a champ! Saved me money as well as boosting my confidence for fixing the mower. THANK YOU!
You have to wonder - if the manufacturer is so adamant about not leaving fuel in it over 30 days, WHY DON'T THEY INCLUDE A SIMPLE DRAIN VALVE ON THE GAS TANK? Pulling off the fuel line is a stinky flammable mess even when executed carefully, and owner's should have to purchase a dedicated fuel siphon to do it right.
I just did this step by step but I didn’t replace anything just cleaned it and holy shit she works first pull. You sir deserve an award for this. Your helping lots of people save hundreds of dollars. Kudos to you bro
It needs to be said that I also just drained the gas, took it apart and cleaned it up and it did NOT start. Has the same sound as when I started. Figured it was worth a try since I'll have to wait for the part, and now I'm more skeptical of the part fixing the mower. very lame
I'm a 74 yo female who is not one bit mechanically inclined. I'm learning how to do things my husband used to do from videos like yours. Thank you for your clear instructions and video. I will be trying to make this repair as soon as I get the part.
Best way to learn! UA-cam is how I learned how to do all my house repair as well. Saves me a ton of money, and it gets done way faster than if I procrastinated until finally getting around to getting someone in to do it lol.

Life saver! Had an issue with bad gas and the mower backfired/afterfired halfway through the mow. Called local repair shops and it's a 5-6 week wait to get in for service. I'm an IT guy and barely know what a carburetor does, but I watched this video and followed it as easy as putting together Legos. Saved me money, time, and angry neighbors yelling about my half-mowed lawn. Thanks for this!
Just fixed my lawn mower thanks to this video! I was too nervous to take the control rods off, but I was still able to get the jet main out. I just cleaned it, sprayed it with WD-40 as in the video, and put it all back together. Added fresh fuel and it started on the first pull! This was such a confidence booster; wish I had the internet when I was growing up.
Hey buddy. My mower didn't start. I watch your video. I just mowed my grass. Thanks so much. I never worked on a motor ever I'm 58 now. It was easy after watching. Thanks.
Hi there… My name is Rob and I live in Nanaimo BC Canada… I just watched your video… Carefully followed your instructions… And successfully fixed our lawnmower… We bought this at Home Depot a year ago… Pulled it out on May 13, 2023 and wouldn't start… so after buying the little plastic piece that you recommended from our local small engine repair dealer… I was able to install the piece in the lawnmower started up right away… Thank you very much. Great video. Have a good weekend.
Found your video after I decided I couldn’t wait two weeks for the local repair shop. Ordered the part and followed your video. Started on the first pull. THANK YOU!!

Was really mad when I used my mower one time and it wouldnt start 😒 but I tried your fix and ended just cleaning the jet. She started right up I'm so thankful! Thank you for a good video
Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! I have never ever worked on a lawn mower in my entire life - aside from putting gas in it and using it. Yesterday I not only changed the jet main and cleaned the carburetor, I was able to remove and clean the fuel tank, flush the fuel line and I replaced the air filter and changed the spark plug so THANK YOU!! Great video.
This is a great vid and it worked for me today. The only suggestion would be to remove the cover to make it easier to access that tube you point out that will suck up dirt into the carb. It's just 2 screws and the latch under the sticker towards the front of the cover. Thank you for the excellent help. It truly saved my mower.
You are a life saver, I was about to take my lawn machine go get repaired like I usually do after each winter. I followed your exact steps and it worked! Found the video really straight to the point.
Thank you for this video! I’ve searched/watched countless videos trying to figure out how to get inside my carburetor without feeling like I’d be breaking something in the process, or just how to do it in general. I’ve been getting by all spring/summer (2022) shooting in some carb cleaner, but today my mower just wasn’t having it anymore. So I searched again and stumbled across your video 🙌. It’s been the first I’ve watched with clear video and clear step-by-step instructions. In fact, when I failed to take your advice on taking a photo to remember, I was able to rewind and screen shot some of your footage to reference when putting it all back together. I did have to substitute replacing the main jet part by just flushing it, but I did order a new one. Once it comes in I feel confident in replacing it. Long story short - my mower fired up (and stayed up) immediately! Again, thanks for the video!
Haven’t been able to start my lawnmower for a couple months and finally came across this video. Took everything apart just like the video except I used an air compressor on the jet to blow any build up out of it and assembled. Worked on the first try ! Thanks for the very good sir!
Hi there! Your video helped me fix my lawnmower. Just wanted to say thank you. I didn't end up buying a new jet, though. I used a very thin sewing needle to clean the little holes out. Mower started right up on the first pull. Woo hoo!
I know this video is from 2 years ago, but this absolutely worked for my mower. I didn't replace the jet just yet, although I likely will soon, but cleaning it out got the mower to start right up on the first pull after I had been fighting with it for ages. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge here, you're a lifesaver.
I love these instructions, exactly what I need to know to change out my little jet. I’m no mechanic, so these instructions knowledgeable enough without being confusing
I used this video to fix my Toro recycler last and it worked great, then I bought a Honda GVC 160 and let the Toro sit in my garage for a year and didn't drain the gas and now the Toro is having the same issue. just order new jets from Amazon they arrive on Saturday and will be back up and running soon.
Wow! I am a book and pen guy but was easily able to follow your method of fixing this mower with the plastic carburator insert you recommended. It started right up!! Wouldn't have been able to figure this out without your help. Bravo to you and it's now time to subscribe to your page! Thanks!!!!
Thank you. I did this and it worked. If anyone is having trouble getting those hooks out of the carburetor, just take off the top cover for easier access. Mine had two screws and a catch to get it off. I had to put my hand under the top cover and push it out.
Great video. I just fixed my Toro model 20332. I got away with just blasting the jets with brake cleaner. It started on the first pull after I got it back together. I was having trouble getting the carb bolted back in so I decided to remove the top cover. I had to figure out what type of screws were holding on the cover. There were 2 Torx T-20 screws and there was a plastic catch on the front of the cover under the decal that I had to stick a screwdriver in and pry a little. With the top off, it was a LOT easier getting the carb back on, linkages in place and the rubber tube shoved back in place. I also found a rubber o-ring laying on the deck under the carb and had to figure out where it belonged. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you for sharing this... I have been a wrench all my life but cant say I've had the privilege to work on one of these yet... Well, I just inherited one of these machines from a neighbor, thank you Dave, and I knew it was a fuel issue, but noticed when I took off the air filter that this was a total different bird from what I'm used to working on... Glad I found you, I'll be having this machine cooking my breakfast this weekend!
Some low life stole all my husband garden tools from his truck 😢 He had some old ones for backup, and the lawn mower won't start. After watching your video, he decided to give it a try. And yes, it worked at first try. So, for all those people wondering if this method works.. YES IT WORKS save yourself some money. Thansk you so much for posting so usefull video!!!
This worked like a charm! My only unexpected experience is when I found a 1" o-ring, I placed it between the carburetor and the engine, it started up on the first pull. Thank you !!!
I can only agree with many of the previous commenters. Followed your tutorial step by step and was up and running in half an hour (looking for the right tools took some time lol). My husband was pleasantly surprised when he came home and the machine is running super smoothly 👍
Worked out well! Started right up! I just put the mower on it side after I drained the fuel and took out the two 9/32 bolts at the bottom. Popped out that part and cleaned it up with a thin needle and some water.
Guys. Check your kill contact. Make sure when you pull the handle it completely disengages from the contact. I took my Toro all apart. Drained the gas tank, new spark plug, new carbureator. I even cleaned the ends of the magneto. Nothing. Then I noticed when i pulled the handle the kill contact was barely touching which was not allowing it to run. A simple adjustment of the cable and wala! It cranked on the first pull.
I'm planning on replacing this jet in the next few days. My mower just stopped starting at all in the early fall last year. But anyways, What is kill contact? How do I check this first before trying the jet
Had mine stored in garage and would not start this spring, this seemed to be my problem the cable was a bit loose and the contact was dirty.it cranked after I cleaned it🤷🏻♂️
I installed an inline fuel filter so that if there were to be any dirt in the fuel, the filter would catch it. Its been over 2 years and there are no problems with fuel issues. just a tip and the video was helpful.
Just use this video to fix my lawn mower. Absolutely works. I went to a repair shop and they told me I had to replace the whole carburetor instead of just the jet. Thank you for this video.
This got my lawnmower running again! Amazon Had the injector for $17 or the whole carburetor for $40; so I bought the entire carb… easy install and runs perfect!
You are the clutch god. Just did this but cleaned the piece and also bought a new one. The one I cleaned worked perfectly and now I have an extra for when it really gets clogged. Once again thank you for this
I'm diabetic so I have syringes. I did what u showed but used a syringe to poke at and clean the jets and my mower started right up and ran great. Thank you.
If you put carb cleaner in the throat of the carb and it starts then dies quickly this will be your problem if it doesn't turn on at all after carb cleaner it's your spark plug just change the plug.
I want you to know ur the best. I picked a lawn mower up that was in the garbage, it looked brand new so i grabbed it. I didnt know if it worked. It didnt so i watched this video and i now have a working toro one start. 1 easy pull and it starts. I priced it and it was $550.00. Not bad for a free mower. Thanks again.
Thank you very much! I followed your instructions step-by-step and was able to start my lawn mower again! Was very happy as I am not a handy man but brought such a relief!
Dear D-MAN: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for an AWESOME Tutorial!!! We have this exact same Toro Recycler 22, that totally died. I followed your directions through every step and started right up, on the FIRST pull of the cord! It's like a NEW Mower!!! You saved us $500!!! God Bless You, my Friend :-)
Just fixed my Toro mower following your detailed step by step instructions. Replaced the main jets, air filter and fuel. Fired up on the second pull :) Thanks for the video !!!
Dude! I don’t usually leave comments but the instructions were so perfect compared to others and you saved me $500 so I had to. After I put it back together it took a few cranks but once it started it had been running like new. Thanks
Thank you D-Man. I am going to fix my mower tomorrow just like yours. You have explained this so well I am sure I can do it. The guy that usually works on my mower is no longer able to and I need to learn how to do this stuff myself. I feel a whole lot better about it now. Thanks again.
Great video Thanks - Mine I pulled the jets and cleaned with compressed air Put the carb back together And... Vroom Worked like a charm UA-cam needs more video tutorials like this !! Very well done
Yo this fixed my problem. I didn’t have to replace the jet though. But for some reason the fuel looked dirty when I drained it and discovered that the air filter WAS NOT placed by previous owner when I bought it. Needless to say the inside of the carburetor was dirty. Works perfectly now. Thank you very much!
I am blown away. This 100 percent fixed my problem. Thank you so much for saving me a ton of $ on a new mower that I didn’t need to spend. I’m not anywhere near the word mechanic or repair as this was my first “big” one. Can’t believe it worked! Thank you!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This worked great for me! A note to those who had difficulty inserting the new jet mechanism: the tolerances are very tight on this part, and if you bypassed the OEM Briggs and Stratton part in favor of a $5 Chinese knockoff you may have found that the new part "won't fit", or insert fully, like mine did. But examining the old and new parts I could see that they were basically the identical part within some few 100ths of an inch tolerance. So I inserted the jet as far as I could by hand, then rested the carburetor's mounting flanges above the jaws of a vice, and lightly tapped on alternate corners of the white Delrin part with a small hammer until it seated fully into the carburetor. Voila, after reassembly and pumping the throttle handle to get gas moving, the mower started on its first pull!
I didn’t replace the part you showed because my mower isn’t that old. Disassembled like you showed and cleaned everything up and blew out a couple pieces. Once I put it back together it started first pull. That you for your videos. Very helpful!
Great how to video! Thank you. I've watched it a dozen times at least. Was able to clean my carb. However I couldn't locate a new jet. Put the carb back on, added new fuel but still didn't start. I am going to call you for a new jet,. Oh by the way, the only important step you didn't tell me was how to take off the beauty cover. The secret latch! No worries. You are producing the best help how to videos I have seen!
You are the man! My Father-in-law and I where working on his mower for this issue for hours and getting no where! Watched this video changed that part and started on the first pull! Keep up the great work!!
Great instruction video. I finally finally found a video again that covers the new model with the Briggs engine and plastic carb. I just cleaned mine for the 3rd time with spray carb cleaner after removing and cleaning the jet and cleaning the carb and all surfaces I could reach. Each year at spring start up it has failed to start and cleaning the carb and also draining and adding fresh fuel made it fire up on one pull. I am going to add a fuel filter inline soon and run fuel system cleaner through it before shutdown this fall. I have 3 rider Snappers with Briggs engines that are 15 to 25 years old and have never had a problem with failure to start and I have never changed out old fuel. Maybe something has changed with the gasoline. I am now using 0 Ethanol fuel to see if that will help. Thank you. Great video.
Excellent video. I was able to fix a mower that wouldn't start after trying everything else. The hardest part was trying to decide the part number to order. Our engine is the exact same as the one you demonstrated (although B&S gave a different part number). I just ordered the part number you showed. Once the part came, it was about 45 minutes and we were mowing again. Thank you!
Thank you for the explanation and demonstration. I've never worked on any machine before but after watching your video, I feel like I could become a mechanic. Lol. Thank you 😊
I was able to fix my lawnmower with your video you are a blessing thank you, I really do thank you, my brother watedto take it a get it fix I said no ,I can fix it myself thank you so much you are truly a blessing
I'm 65, female, pretty darn handy but never learned much about auto mechanics, engine repair, etc... biting me on the ass now, lol... anyway, mower wouldn't turn over, remembered some coughing and smoke last time I used it, followed this video... part cost less than $10, next day AMAZON prime delivery...beginning of mowing season in SWFL... can you even imagine what it would have cost, let alone get an appt... decided if this didn't work it would likely be cheaper to just buy a new mower, LOL...WELL, THIS WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH!
Great video. Thanks for posting. I was able to take my Toro 7.25/163cc mower's carb apart with your help. Successfully cleaned the jets just to get it running again but will order the new jets so I have them on hand just in case... One tip I have is to remove the plastic engine cover (two T25 Torx screws and push down and slide back to disengage the hook on its front). This gives you much more room to reattach the linkages and the breather tube.
My Toro mower refused to start after winter storage, watched your video, brought the new carb jet part, fitted and mower started on first turn of the key, THANK YOU SO MUCH 👍
🚨UPDATE🚨 Mine didn’t start 🤦🏽♂️, possible deeper issues. Changed the plastic piece mentioned in the video, new filter, cleaned the carburetor, good gas, new spark plug and it just seems like something is restricting it from starting!!! May take it to a shop, but I ended up buying a new one with the same Briggs & Stratton engine!
It was a Sunday took that part apart follow your directions on it clean the part out with my air compressor put it back together and I worked thanks a lot big help. God bless.
This video was very helpful even though I haven't started to work yet but just looking at it and watching what you've done I believe I can get my lawn mower fixed thank you for the video I really appreciate the tips that you put on there and I will send you a comment back when I got it fixed and ready to go

Well, I just inherited one of these machines from a neighbor, thank you Dave, and I knew it was a fuel issue, but noticed when I took off the air filter that this was a total different bird from what I'm used to working on...
Glad I found you, I'll be having this machine cooking my breakfast this weekend!
Awesome 👍
Some low life stole all my husband garden tools from his truck 😢
He had some old ones for backup, and the lawn mower won't start.
After watching your video, he decided to give it a try.
And yes, it worked at first try.
So, for all those people wondering if this method works..
YES IT WORKS save yourself some money.
Thansk you so much for posting so usefull video!!!
Sorry to hear that
This worked like a charm! My only unexpected experience is when I found a 1" o-ring, I placed it between the carburetor and the engine, it started up on the first pull. Thank you !!!
Awesome
That just happened to me! I guess we both chose correctly where it went.
Praise God! This worked! You saved us $300.00+ We were ready to buy a new lawn mower. Thank you for your excellent video.
Awesome glad it worked out👍
This video is so clear and shows everything at a good angle and useful closeups. Thank you!
Thanks for the feed back
I can only agree with many of the previous commenters. Followed your tutorial step by step and was up and running in half an hour (looking for the right tools took some time lol).
My husband was pleasantly surprised when he came home and the machine is running super smoothly 👍
Great to hear!
This is the most detailed instruction I have seen. Thank you for your expertise and sharing your knowledge to us DIYers. Please keep up the good work
Thanks
Yes sometimes the cable will get rusty and stick causing the cable not to have full travel.
I'm planning on replacing this jet in the next few days. My mower just stopped starting at all in the early fall last year. But anyways, What is kill contact? How do I check this first before trying the jet
Had mine stored in garage and would not start this spring, this seemed to be my problem the cable was a bit loose and the contact was dirty.it cranked after I cleaned it🤷🏻♂️
@@MGMafioso Nice. Good job brother!
I installed an inline fuel filter so that if there were to be any dirt in the fuel, the filter would catch it. Its been over 2 years and there are no problems with fuel issues. just a tip and the video was helpful.
Awesome
FABULOUS "how to" video, probably the best I have seen. Worked EXACTLY as promised, running in under a half hour. Thank you!😊
Thanks
Thanks! Tried this and it worked like a charm on the first pull!
Terrific repair video. Excellent instructions, clearly presented. I think you saved me ~ $125. Winder Outdoor Power rocks!
Awesome
You are the clutch god. Just did this but cleaned the piece and also bought a new one. The one I cleaned worked perfectly and now I have an extra for when it really gets clogged. Once again thank you for this
Nice work!
Nice to know. Thanks. Great explaining and super camera angles make it so east to see what your doing. Thanks again!
Thanks
I'm diabetic so I have syringes. I did what u showed but used a syringe to poke at and clean the jets and my mower started right up and ran great. Thank you.
Awesome
Great photography on the linkage
Thanks
Great video! Mower would not start, but ordered this little dude from Amazon and it started on the first pull!! Thanks a ton! $12 fix!
Glad to help!
Awesome
Hope the video helps you out with your machine stay tuned for more helpful videos.
Thank you very much! I followed your instructions step-by-step and was able to start my lawn mower again! Was very happy as I am not a handy man but brought such a relief!
Excellent video. Thanks a lot for presenting this so well.
Thanks
worked like a champ........mower had been sitting for 3 years. Started on first pull without starting fluid......thanks, bro!
Good stuff!
Great video and perfect demonstration, thank you!
Thanks 🙏
Dear D-MAN: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for an AWESOME Tutorial!!! We have this exact same Toro Recycler 22, that totally died. I followed your directions through every step and started right up, on the FIRST pull of the cord! It's like a NEW Mower!!! You saved us $500!!! God Bless You, my Friend :-)
Awesome
This is exactly what I needed. Super easy fix. Thank you!
Awesome
Just fixed my Toro mower following your detailed step by step instructions. Replaced the main jets, air filter and fuel. Fired up on the second pull :) Thanks for the video !!!
Nice work!
Perfect fix
Was exactly as you described
Started very first try
Very quick fix
I thank you and subscribed
Thanks glad it worked out👍
20 years ago I bought a new carb for my go-kart because of this. But I just fixed my mower in 5 min. W/ carb cleaner an a run to Chevron. Thanks boss.
Good stuff
I am not mechanical but I will try this to fix my Toro /briggs mower. you are a very good instructor for sure.
This was exactly what I was looking for to fix the neighbors mower so I didn't have to repeatedly mow his lawn! Thank you.
Dude! I don’t usually leave comments but the instructions were so perfect compared to others and you saved me $500 so I had to. After I put it back together it took a few cranks but once it started it had been running like new. Thanks
Great to hear!
Thank you D-Man. I am going to fix my mower tomorrow just like yours. You have explained this so well I am sure I can do it. The guy that usually works on my mower is no longer able to and I need to learn how to do this stuff myself. I feel a whole lot better about it now. Thanks again.
You can do it!
Great video
Thanks
- Mine I pulled the jets and cleaned with compressed air
Put the carb back together
And... Vroom
Worked like a charm
UA-cam needs more video tutorials like this !!
Very well done
Nice work!
Awesome
I am blown away. This 100 percent fixed my problem. Thank you so much for saving me a ton of $ on a new mower that I didn’t need to spend. I’m not anywhere near the word mechanic or repair as this was my first “big” one. Can’t believe it worked! Thank you!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Glad to help
Easy to fallow directions, saved myself 100 bucks and time
Awesome
Glad it helped
You are the man! My Father-in-law and I where working on his mower for this issue for hours and getting no where! Watched this video changed that part and started on the first pull! Keep up the great work!!
Awesome
Beauty. Mine’s under warranty, but thanks for saving me the hassle of having to bring it in. Clear instructions- runs like a dream now.
Glad it helped
I followed all of your steps and advise. It took me three hours but it runs like new. The gas, jets and carb had dirt in it. A big thank you to
Glad it helped
Thank you for your simple to understand video. I am no mechanic, but my lawnmower is back up and running within a half hour as you stated.
Great to hear!
Thank you!
Glad it helped
Thanks to your video I was able to fix my mower myself. This is huge because I'm not a mechanic of any sort. I can't thank you enough!
Glad I could help
Thank you for the explanation and demonstration. I've never worked on any machine before but after watching your video, I feel like I could become a mechanic. Lol. Thank you 😊
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the help. I used throttle body cleaner and cleaned the jet out until I get the replacement parts. Started right up. Thank you.
Thanks you, repairing my mother in laws mower that went through a flood.
Glad I could help
I was able to fix my lawnmower with your video you are a blessing thank you, I really do thank you, my brother watedto take it a get it fix I said no ,I can fix it myself thank you so much you are truly a blessing
Fantastic!
Awesome
Just got done with my repair using this video. Great step by step instructions. Saved myself a bunch of money! Thanks.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the great video. Followed the steps, cleaned the existing Jet-Main, put it back together and it fired right up!
Awesome
My Toro mower refused to start after winter storage, watched your video, brought the new carb jet part, fitted and mower started on first turn of the key, THANK YOU SO MUCH 👍
Awesome glad it worked out for you
Worked like a charm, I didn’t replace the jet, I cleaned it and presto. So helpful
Glad it helped
How did you clean it?!
You just gave me the confidence I need to fix my lawnmower, I will check back in if I’m able to get it running!
🚨UPDATE🚨 Mine didn’t start 🤦🏽♂️, possible deeper issues. Changed the plastic piece mentioned in the video, new filter, cleaned the carburetor, good gas, new spark plug and it just seems like something is restricting it from starting!!! May take it to a shop, but I ended up buying a new one with the same Briggs & Stratton engine!
you showed me how to fix my Toro with your expertise instructions. Many thanks for your easy to follow instructions. Charlie
It was a Sunday took that part apart follow your directions on it clean the part out with my air compressor put it back together and I worked thanks a lot big help. God bless.
Nice job!
This video was very helpful even though I haven't started to work yet but just looking at it and watching what you've done I believe I can get my lawn mower fixed thank you for the video I really appreciate the tips that you put on there and I will send you a comment back when I got it fixed and ready to go
You got this!
Thank you 😊I cannot afford to by another one and I’m happy to learn and fix things. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
You are so welcome!
Great video. Right on the money for me. My older female neighbor couldn't get her mower going, same kind as in this video. Tried this fix and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the info.😊
Glad it helped
Awesome video. You just saved me from buying a new mower. I repaired my mower for less than $10.00.
Glad I could help
