- The vast 2.9 million acres of the Tonto National Forest provide many opportunities to experience everything from the desert floor to the peaks of mountains over 7,000 feet in elevation. Whether you want to run the full Montana Mountain Loop in your off-road vehicle or head to the vast network of hiking trails in the Superstition Wilderness, Rogers Trough will help you fully experience what the Tonto has to offer.
Rogers Trough Trail when connected with the Hewitt Canyon Trail and Happy Camp Road, creates the Montana Mountain Loop OHV route. Here, you will experience the sandy washes and deep canyons of the desert floor. Climb a shelf road that provides vast views of the valley below. As you wrap around the 5,528 ft. Montana Mountain on a narrow rocky trail, you will have multiple dispersed camping opportunities before dropping back down to the desert floor through an array of tight turning switchbacks.
For the hiking enthusiast, Rogers Trough Trailhead at the end of the trail provides access to the Arizona Trail, The Grand Enchantment Trail, West Pinto Trail #212, and Reavis Ranch Trail #109. Hiking north from the trailhead will have you exploring the 160,000-acre Superstition Wilderness, where you may come across the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine.
You find things I've never known about. This is incredible. Great content in every part. Thank you!

Nice!
Now get editing that next video--you got all weekend! Let's do this!
HaHa that is funny. I actually have it done. The Happy Camp trail is longer and more to edit. Thanks for watching
This is one of my favorite trails! Dirt bike, tho.
Seen a bunch of dirt bikes up there actually!

@@Trail89Adventures how was the temps? hot? .... I def want to start again, once it gets a lil cooler.

Time for you to roll the loop Mike!
@@Trail89Adventures Its getting nice out, haha
I’m planning on heading to rogers trough TH soon in my AWD Hyundai Santa Fe. It has a little over 8 inches of ground clearance and I have heard taking it slow, it would be doable. Any thoughts from your recent experience.
I generally don’t make firm recommendations on if a certain vehicle can make it or not. Too many variables between vehicles, road conditions, and driver experience. I will say however that most of my videos try to show the difficult sections for viewers to decide if it is right for them.
I did post all of these trails that make up the Montana Mountain Loop on the Trails Offroad website / app that will provide more detail. (Hewitt Canyon FR 172A, Rogers Trough FR 172A, and Happy Camp FR 650) Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
