Yeah, kinda surprised it took me almost 3 years of watching a puppeteer to finally hear them talk about the Muppets. It never came to my mind, but it seemed so obvious when I think about it for 2 seconds.
These characters were chosen on purpose, because they were all performed by muppet performers who have since passed: Jim Henson, Caroll Spinney, and Jerry Nelson. This feels more like real muppets than anything we've gotten in a long time. We need more like this.
Treasure Island, or at least the computer game, should be at the tippy top. It was a 2-disc package, and they pulled all the stops. I don't know where my case is right now, but it was up there with Arthur's Reading Race.
Given how a planned Elmo cameo in the 2011 Muppet movie was scrapped because Sesame Workshop and The Walt Disney Company couldn't agree on the terms, this is a victory.
it’s likely due to this being a non commercial memorial short where the 2011 muppet movie was a commercial product. Especially based on the proposed scene it was likely that Sesame workshop wanted to maintain the appearance of Elmo as a young and authentic character rather than one that follows the direction of lawyers which could damage the appearance of the character and make it seem like they are a more calculating character. I think a better scene they could have tried proposing is either use big bird on vacation and have him mention how he made it in public television as a callback to the original muppets movie and that can be the spark that inspired Kermit to save the theater as a reminder of his goal all those years ago or by having the cast of the muppets pass by Sesame Street with Kermit remarking how he used to live there before he met the rest of the muppets crew. Using both as call back to Kermit’s past rather than cameos as Kermit was basically completely fazed out of Sesame Street by the time Elmo had arrived instead being a rare guest character, Kermit had a much stronger connection to the other Sesame Street characters from the early days compared to Elmo, Big Bird would have been best due to them having a closer connection across the years along with the connection to the original movie while also being a super recognizable character.
@@johnatkinson1111 yeah, Elmo is one of those few characters that would not work with the meta humor on that level. The joke about his birthday always being the same age in a recent interview (think it was one his dad was present for?) really toed the line where the suspension of disbelief was concerned. Elmo being meta feels weird and wrong.

Then again Steve Martin might as well be a Muppet.

I love that this is how I learned about the clip that was released today, what a wonderful, sweet tribute for Jim and the fans.
After reading the comments, it's great to see how everyone just adores when you fan over the Muppets and other puppeteer shows. It's always funny though that when we do see your puppet on screen we don't see a puppet, we see Arlo. There is no puppeteer there. It's just Arlo. Thank you Arlo for always being true to yourself.
Seeing Arlo do content on this video? Very cool, my spouse and I were super excited because that Henson Company video was so great. Hearing Arlo specifically bring up his love for Fraggle Rock? That elicited some next-level excitement from us both. We've been having fun rediscovering the franchise since 2018 or so, and loving the reboot as well. Needless to say, we'd be ALL ABOUT any Fraggle Rock or otherwise Muppety content from Arlo. Do it, dude, do it! (I also had long-ago forgotten that Oscar's trash can had that hammerspace quality, and just plain didn't know about the dimension portal thing. The idea of a connection between that and a Fraggle tunnel made me grin. To quote Cotterpin, "What a helmet-bending concept!")
This skit is my first time hearing these new voices. While they aren't the ones I'm used to, they did a very good performance. Happy to see these characters still living on!
OMG we watch Muppet Family Christmas every year! It's a tradition for us. We also watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. So many fond memories of getting excited for Christmas day.
Dark Crystal is one my favorite puppet movies. I was so happy his son and the Jim Henson company made the Dar Crystal series for Netflix. Muppets will always be my childhood comfort. And sesame street was every morning at 6am.
It was beautiful to see Kermit (Disney), Gobo (Henson), and Oscar (Sesame) all in one video for a very special video. I nearly cried when I first saw it
"Disney doesn't know what to do with the Muppets." Preach it Arlo! The most obvious thing to do is just revive The Muppet Show. It really doesn't feel like it's that complicated to me, yet here we are. When I was in college, one of my professors was a former US Representative, she said that her favorite day in office was the day she did an interview/hearing/something with Kermit. She said, "I want to tell you that it takes approximately 15 seconds for you to forget that there is someone controlling him, because the people that do it make them feel so full of life."

As someone who was inspired to become a puppeteer and make/ design my own puppets due to Jim, this hit me right in the heart gut. Each of these properties molded me as a person in some way, shape and form. Sesame Street gave me my first word. The Rainbow Connection has been my favorite song ever since I was 5. (I’m in my late 30s now.) Fraggle Rock taught me how to look at the simple things in a wondrous new way. Jim Henson is someplace where the best of humanity end up in the end. Rest in peace Jim. My life wouldn’t be what it is without you
I loved watching Fraggle Rock and some of the muppet movies with my parents when I was very young. This video reminded me that I need to find the dvds somewhere to watch them with my children now 🥲
I would absolutely watch long form videos you make about Muppets or other puppetry related content. Puppetry has always been something that interests me and it's not easy to find much talking about it online
Gaming goodness and then suddenly ... Muppets. Love to see it ❤ I never was into Muppets, but it's just nice to hear Arlo talk about it so passionately!
Muppets Family Christmas. My childhood. This 45 year old must watch that every year. I’m reduced to watching it on UA-cam, but at least it’s accessible.
Fraggle Rock is forever my crew. It was my childhood in the 80's and I took all of my life lessons from the fraggles. It really hit me recently how much I actually support the fraggle "ethos" as stated in the third to last episode of the series, "We don't have any leaders. We lead ourselves and we all lead each other." The ideas in this show were, in most respects, way ahead of their time.
This gave me warm fuzzies, and a flashback to the Sesame Street 50th Anniversary special from 2019, which was going along as a pretty wonderful retrospective on the show, a celebration of all that made it special throughout the decades… And then Kermit showed up, made casual pleasantries with various characters as if he never left, before singing Bein’ Green with Elvis Costello and it was just the most wonderful things.
There's a UA-camr named Matt Baume, whose content is mostly about queer milestones in pop culture history, and he has an excellent episode on Richard Hunt, one of the most important behind-the-scenes Muppet performers. The episode not only talks about Richard's contribution, but also gives a decent summary of the history of the major Henson productions. It also has a piece on a very touching and sad Fraggle Rock episode that was a reflection on loss, largely inspired by the escalating AIDS crisis.
This video made me teary eyed. Muppet Family Christmas is my favorite Christmas special and always the first one I watch. Fraggle Rock is my favorite tv show of all time. This little birthday video just spoke to me on so many levels. I had the feels.
The fact that the three studios came together to do this is hopefully the beginning of more cooperation in the future. Nice to hear I am not the only one who treasures Muppet Family Christmas. In all fairness though, the muppet family split technically started when a German company briefly bought Henson, but that is another story.
I don't HATE Matt Vogel's Kermit, I just hate the circumstances that led to his predecessor getting fired. Also, Oscar is a time lord and the trash cam is his TARDIS. He used to be bright orange, but he regenerated.
growing up i loved fraggle rock and the muppets, wasnt ever big on sesame street, but was just a fan in general of all things Jim Henson. One of my all time favorite parts about being an arlo fan is that I get all kinds of video game news, stories, reviews, opinions, and thought provoking topics, but also every now and then it's just puppets and I get to listen to someone be happy and passionate about something they love and it always brightens my whole day.
Thanks for the update Arlo! Loved it!
Please do Muppet videos more often. I would love to see you do a reviews of every single episode of every single Muppet TV show.
Adding yet another voice to the pile of: I would LOVE to watch you talk more about The Muppets! (and the extended Jim Henson Workshop family) 3-hour retrospective? Count me in! Whatever you've got!
Arlo is basically Cookie Monster's nerdy cousin.
I found out on the Muppets subreddit and thought to myself “Arlo is gonna freak out” and here we are lol
I would like to travel to the alternate universe where Arlo built his entire UA-cam channel around talking about Muppets.
I need more Arlo talking about muppets content. I could listen to hours of this
OMG we watch Muppet Family Christmas every year! It's a tradition for us. We also watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. So many fond memories of getting excited for Christmas day.
I wondered if you'd mention the Muppet Christmas special, good to see some love.
I love when people talking about their niche super fixations it’s always so nice
I nearly cried when I first saw it
It shows that they can still bring the three together if they really wanted to...
I’ve now realized I need arlo to make a full muppet lore video
So original. Only like 300 comments like this
@@marcuscostello5635 I didn’t read the comments before I made this I just want more of arlo talking about the muppets so I commented it lol. It’s really entertaining
@@GameBlock_ i dont care if you read them or not. You are a sheep
@@marcuscostello5635 How does a blind sheep follow?
@Yellowredstone it sniffs the air for the smell of the b hole in front of it
I am happy they got Matt Vogel back as Kermit for Disney Speedstorm instead of just getting an imitator
I mean, Vogel is already an imitator OF an imitator himself; his only credentials were that he already worked for the Henson company in particular and did a better impression than anyone else there.
@@stevethepocketmatt worked closely with both carol spinney (big bird, oscar) and jerry nelson (half of basically every muppet production) before both of their passings, and took up many of their characters by their request. its one thing to not like his performance but its another to downplay his experience, especially when it comes to playing legacy characters.
muppet history is world history
I love how passionate you are about this topic I remember it was the subject of one of your first videos too
I love the muppet stuff! Don't be afraid to talk about all sorts of Jim Henson works or Muppet topics!
I've never seen a second of Fraggle Rock and I would totally love a retrospective of it from Arlo. I'd also be down for the 3 hour Muppet Christmas Special Ted Talk too. More Muppet talk please!!!
I still watch the muppet family Christmas special every year. And my profile picture is my cat named Mokey who crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this month. I am so beyond happy to see this collaboration again! Here’s to the future of muppets and hopefully more Arlo Muppet content!
I wouldn't have expected Arlo to be a fan of muppets or any kind of puppets in general, just never crossed my mind
You wouldn't have expected... Arlo... to be a fan of puppeteering??
@@4rtie why would a puppet be into puppeteering that's kind of weird
@@4rtie
I just don't see any sort of connection between him and Puppets, so it's a nice surprise.
@@Quinhala11Are you being fr? Like if it’s /s I understand but there is no way you didn’t realize this man likes puppets
please please PLEASE talk about muppets and fraggle rock more often, arlo.
ESPECIALLY fraggle rock. that was my childhood. now i want to rewatch it all. :')
Please review more muppet stuff, I would die for a 10 hour video essay about all the muppet movies
Thanks for this video and the recommendations, both of the especial “Muppet Family Christmas “ and the biography book! Please more videos on Jim Henson, the Muppets and your opinion of how it has been handled by Disney.
Muppet Family Christmas is my favorite Muppet crossover. Glad they're doing this sort of thing again.
My life wouldn’t be what it is without you
Can’t think of anyone with more authority to speak about muppet history
I never really followed Muppets but I feel like I could listen to your enthusiasm for it for hours.
Together again. Gee, it’s great to be together again.
Jim Henson had a incredible journey for making shows like the Muppets & Sesame Street, I would wonder what Elmo would think about this.
Arlo id genuinely love 3 hours of you talking about muppets
I like hearing you bring up Elmo is grouchland. That movie was a big piece of my childhood and it’s still genuinely good as an adult.
I just watched it with my daughter for the first time since I was a kid and it holds up so well!
All the Muppet Movies hold up pretty well. Most of them still feel like they could have been made today.
Hearing another muppet fan gush about muppet history fills me with so much joy, thank you for making my day
please please pleaseeee make more videos about the muppets, your enthusiasm and love for the work and life of jim henson is so infectious
Love hearing Arlo talk about these kinds of non-gaming specific topics
I love Muppet Content, Idk if you have the time, but I'd love to see more of it. Be it here, or on a "Muppet content" focused channel.
Muppets Family Christmas. My childhood. This 45 year old must watch that every year. I’m reduced to watching it on UA-cam, but at least it’s accessible.
we need more "gushing over muppets" videos from arlo. so very wholesome TuT
This gave me warm fuzzies, and a flashback to the Sesame Street 50th Anniversary special from 2019, which was going along as a pretty wonderful retrospective on the show, a celebration of all that made it special throughout the decades…
And then Kermit showed up, made casual pleasantries with various characters as if he never left, before singing Bein’ Green with Elvis Costello and it was just the most wonderful things.
the documentary on jim henson was really good, definitely recommend
also i NEED more videos like this i have much to learn as an aspiring muppet fan
We watch A Muppet Family Christmas every year. To me, there's no better piece of media to experience on Christmas night.
I love when you talk about Muppets because the absolute love and joy you express is so infectious. Need more videos like this
"this is like the Avengers of The Muppets" was very deep and made me care about something I usually don't really care about
Nearly cried. This was so heart warming.
Butternut Squash? Yes Please!

Thank you for telling us to go watch Muppets Family Christmas - it is absolutely wonderful.
I love it when you talk about this kinda stuff
This video made me teary eyed. Muppet Family Christmas is my favorite Christmas special and always the first one I watch. Fraggle Rock is my favorite tv show of all time. This little birthday video just spoke to me on so many levels. I had the feels.
Dose anyone else forget that arlo kinda looks like a Muppet
So seeing these 3 together like this brought tears to my eyes. its one of the reasons i love your channel so much, keeping the Muppet spirit alive in this age of Vtubers.
