Your well-balanced style of movie analysis never let technical aspects get the hand over their intended effect: Using form as a tool to enhance storytelling. Your videos are a pure joy. At this point I can blindly trust any of your suggestions and be surprised by yet another masterpiece of the seventh art!
Thank you so much, Tobias! It's such a pleasure to share these films I come across with other people, hoping that they will find the same beauty and power I acknowledged in them. The fact that people such as you cherish those films and find my videos useful too, makes all the effort worth it, so I express my heartfelt gratitude to you, my friend.
This channel is soo non-clichéd (not that I would mind) in term’s of artistic cinema (the films you choose to speak ab esp)- Instead of just hearing the same old film’s spoken about - you really appreciate the medium and are too, at least in my eyes a total deep diver. Lovethis channel.
Hey OGHST, I thank you deeply for your appreciation. Honestly, it gives me great pleasure to share neglected, lost, rarely seen or under-appreciated works with other people. I don't get to do that in real life, so UA-cam offers me a decent chance to present those films to be (re)discovered by potential audiences. All the best to you.
So grateful you’ve turned your eye to Zvyagintsev’s work. Such a rich and multi-layered presentation. Can I ask - what software or application did you use to capture the Polaroid-like photos? Very effective and aesthetic.
Hey Aproposification, I'm satisfied to learn you've enjoyed this video, thanks for your appreciation. I'll be coming back to Zvyagintsev eventually. As for the pictures, I've produced them on Adobe Photoshop, using a polaroid template and direct print-screens from the film file. I've done similar work on Part 1 of the series on Angelopoulos' Landscape in the Mist. Cheers.
What a fantastic insight into a film that I haven't yet seen from a director who is among my favorites. Your level of analysis and inference from art is, literally, on an entirely different level. Your videos have inspired me in my own filmmaking journey. Thank you so much.
Hey Mark, thank you so much for your kind appreciation, you can't imagine how rewarding it is to have someone enjoying the effort I put into these videos. I am sincerely touched by your words: if I have inspired you in that personal filmmaking journey, I want you to know it has been an honour and pleasure, it brings me much joy to know one of the purposes of this channel has been achieved. All the best to you.
Hey Brandon! I'm sure you'll enjoy The Return just as well. It's not as politically tinged and acerbic as Leviathan, but its dramatic approach to a familial setting is touching and stimulating. All the best!
Amazing shots for sure. Thanks for making this video about this director as he is one of my favourites next to Tarkovsky. The cinematography is amazing almost overshadowed by the wonderful acting of the two boys. Amazing stuff. I really liked The Banishment more though for some reason which is not popular opinion. I liked the cinematography of Loveless but it was hard to watch the parents fighting and being so selfish. The story didn’t appeal to me like the others do. Just getting around to watching Leviathan soon. Keep making the best content on this platform.
Hi Colin! I agree 100% with you, the performances in this film, especially by the young duo, are thoroughly outstanding. I think you will appeciate Leviathan too, it showcases fine cinematography, with great acting and a socially conscious character that highlights the troubles of modern Russia methodically, but it's more digestible than Loveless. Have you watched Elena? Not my favourite work of his, but it does have its moments and is relentless in its depiction of a materialistic, honourless, selfish society just as well. And thank you so much for you kind words, my friend. Cheers!
Sorry to hear that, was it that my discourse was too technical? I try to make the text as understandable as possible, but sometimes it might be hard to be precise without resorting to technical or specific terms. I'll bear in mind the acessibility of the analysis on future videos. Cheers!
Politics destroyed filmaker like from Russia ( Andrey Zy) or Iran ( Asghar Farhadi and Roustayi ). I hope all of those artist safe, and keep bless us with their art. My sympathy with all of the artist who are in trouble because of their country, I hope they are all safe and keep bless us with their majestic works. ❤🙏
Indeed, in his most recent films Zvyagintsev exposed the deeply-rooted corruption and cronyism amidst church and state, as well as the detachment, amorality and desensitization found in modern society, and this has led to much criticism and made it difficult to work in Russia. I'm curious in regards to his upcoming project in the USA.

Great analysis, excellent job. It made me appreciate more that the cinematography of this incredible film is superb.

One of the greatest directors of our time along with Ceylan, Hamaguchi.
@@ShekharSircar Indeed, one of the most stimulating directors working today, just like the names you mentiones. All the best.
Thank you for this video. This is one of my favourite movies of all time.❤
Hey Nouha, I am also quite fond of this film, as you may tell. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!

I loved Leviathan from the director, will add this one to my watchlist, thanks

Zvyagintsev was not destroyed. He has left the country, was present at events, writes new projects.
