Just drove from Idaho to Loveland, CO and back again. Drove through Rock Springs to Cheyenne - a desolate stretch of country. Grew up listening to The Braun Brothers (These guys dad and uncle) that used to play here around southeast Idaho.
Micky is truly the MAN, it's a shame hes not on the CMT award show getting awards he so deserves. But today's country is nothing more than pop music.... His voice and music are pure heaven!!! This is what I call country music, beautiful set!!
Absolutely awesome. The first time I heard this MMC was opening (for RK) at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle. My dad died on Thanksgiving 2001 and I drove from Oregon to Colorado and got stuck between Rock Springs and Cheyenne in a snowstorm on my way home. I had beers with Micky after the show and he told me about Kip Attaway, who wrote the song. I hand-wrote Kip a letter shortly there after and never got a response, unfortunately. But I sure am glad I got to hear MMC perform the song!!!
Jay Dennison my grandpa died the day before Thanksgiving of 77, we drove from San Antonio , Tx up to St Louis , Mo , we got stuck coming back in the snow . I love this song
Song written by Kip Attaway (Uncle Kippy). These boys grew up near Stanley, Idaho. I used to listen to The Braun Brothers (their father and uncle) play in the Idaho pubs (Blackfoot and Pocatello). These boys come by their musical roots honestly.
Sherry; well darn; being a Colo native/musician, I was really hoping there was some real Colorado roots here, but hey....Idaho is really cool too!! There is another Kip from here that I used to play with; Kip Winger...anyhoo; I cant believe this video is nine years old now!!
I still don't really know what this song is about, but I keep coming back because it sounds good. Like, why has he been forced to pray? Is he stuck in a snow drift, or out of fuel? As far as I can tell, it sounds like a letter to his girl back home describing how he's doing.
If you have ever been from Cheyenne to Rock Springs on I-80 you are forced to pray no matter what time of year it is. one of the main trucking routes in the USA. Blizzard all winter long and they keep the road open sometimes when they shouldn't.
Does anyone know about the guitar Willie is playing? It looks like an acoustic with electric knobs installed on the face. I have never seen one like it
I have a guitar like that (acoustic), according to serial numbers, mine is a 1961. (I have had it since the last 1960s). I have been told it is called a Song Writer Deluxe, but I am not sure if that is correct.
One question I have about the song is that if they are going from Dallas to Idaho, they would be going from Cheyenne to Rock Springs, not the other way around.
I keep coming back to this song its so epic thanks guys
Me too-just love the sound of those two Gibsons
Awesome 10-21-24 few minutes before my birthday I found this!! 48 on the 22nd of October

All the brothers Braun crank out a sweet lil gem
Amazing. I love RK and MMC both, but when these 3 brothers get together, I could listen to this stuff all damn day long. Just wow.
It's pure magic
Awesome how you honor your Uncle Kippie every time you perform this song.
I live in Jackson Hole and love Kip Attaway on of his best songs!!!!

RockSprings to Cheyenne is one of the worst spots on I-80 to drive on when it snows and/or blows .
Micky isn't with Reckless Kelly, he's the front man of his own band, just an FYI
He's performing with members of Reckless Kelly in this video. Thus it is Micky Braun w/ Reckless Kelly
