@@CodingWithJanHi I am speaking from Bangladesh. We like your videos very much. I want to learn how to customize Shopify design themes. You will help me learn Shopify.
One thing about learning how to code is that having a mentor and teammates can go a long way. Having done projects both on my own and within a team, I can say that having people help each other can really accelerate both the learning and the development process. Sometimes I'd get stuck for hours on some really simple thing, and just having had another pair of eyes look at the problem could have saved me those hours of frustration. The reality as a junior dev is that you will eventually get stuck on things / bugs that you'll spend a lot of time trying to fix them. I was just curious how you'd go about finding teammates, or if you don't think that's something that's really required as a Shopify developer in particular? Thanks a lot for the video and for taking the time to read this ^^
Hey Jan, how much javascript one should know, for Shopify development, I'm already used to coding HTML and CSS so now I'm getting started with JavaScript, and also thinking about learning react. Also, do you think learning Python(Django) is a good idea or unnecessary? Greets from Brazil!

hi Jan, thank you for your great videos! i am struggling to understand shopify app development well. i am learning html, css, javascript and React for months already, i bought some courses, but i still dont understand how actually to build public shopify app, i want to start building simple shopify app to get some experience but i dont understand the concept of the shopify api and how to use it to build an app that can make changes in the merchant store. Sir. I'm a front end designer of shopify. I have worked with a company named Vebloft. Is there any opportunity for me in your company? Looking forward to your response.
Lol I have totally seen someone put those kind of personal projects on a site where they are trying to sell just normal static html css websites to clients. I saw this just a few days ago actually.
Hi Nikki, great question! Yes that is definitely possible, but it will be helpful to know some HTML and CSS. If Freelancing is interesting to you, then you might want to a look at our Bootcamp as well. (link in the description) Best, Joy (Team)

Just write one with your name for now. It depends on your location, but in many countries you can start a sole proprietorship pretty easily. LTD or Company would then be the next step.
Hey Jan, first your videos are awesome! Thank you. Secondly, can you help by making a video on "How to add your own custom bullets in your Shopify theme" I'm using Dawn, I really want to know how to add my own 🐾 print bullet Emoji. I think others may love this as well. Thanks. Unicode number U+1F43E HTML-code 🐾 CSS-code \1F43E
Yeah that's awesome. Most programming languages are similar to some degree. (e.g. concepts like variables, if conditions, loops, etc. are pretty much the same everywhere) So you'll definitely have an easier time understanding everything! :-)
@@CodingWithJan ohhh thank you for your response, i want to start my own, and start also in upwork, however, the competition are really high and I'm sure that it's very different in our country, any advise?
Hey Spencer, you're right, we're actually split-testing that right now. If someone watches 80% of the video, the page content gets visible in full. (and you'll have a cookie if you're a returning viewer.) The assumption was that the video explains the whole program best. Here's the full-page link if you're curious. :-) www.freemote.com/enroll-now?show=1
@Coding with Jan - Shopify Developer / Freemote Thank you. The program looks great. And I wonder if the shopify freelance market could at some point be oversaturated with beginner/immediate level shopify developers. Shopify is a growing niche, yet still a niche.
Demand for qualified Developers is definitely high enough! 😃 I'd even say 95% of agency owners I talk to are currently looking for good devs to hire! :-)
Strongly disagree. :-) With our new pricing, we really tried making the program as accessible as possible and I think for what you get it's actually a steal. To just name a few things: coding modules, code reviews (direct feedback from people working in the tech industry), live calls where you can ask questions (e.g. one hosted by Taylor who's making 6 figures / y freelancing as a Shopify dev), advice from an expert we brought in like Patrick (7-figure agency owner) who also shared his agency templates, proposals, call guidelines, or Evan ($1.7m in earnings on Upwork) who shared his advice in terms of how to stand out, land jobs, get great reviews, a network of like-minded people, support when you're stuck on projects or have questions, and much more. That being said, there are also other great programming courses out there for sure. HTML / CSS courses for example could be a great place to start. The problem here though is they usually lack the direct feedback component and they mainly focus on the technical side of things. (not sales and marketing, which is equally as important as a freelancer, if you want to earn a living). Beyond that, I'd also recommend the free videos on my and Aarons' channel if you're interested in specific topics. So I think it's just important to understand, that learning these skills is going to cost you something. It's either going to be money or a longer time to see results. Hope that's still helpful and explains it a little bit. :-)
I'm stuck at one point in shopify. It would be great to help me. I need a warehouse location on email template for the admin confirmation email. Do you have any idea?
Difficult one. Would need to test this myself, but here's a quick idea: 1. The template you're looking for is "New order notifications". 2. I'll quote this from the docs: If you have more than one active location, then you need to specify how to fulfill online orders. There are several ways to set up your locations for fulfilling orders: - If you want all items for online orders to fulfill from a single location, then you need to make that your default location and prevent other locations from fulfilling online orders - If you want items for online orders to fulfill from a primary location, and fulfill from other locations if the product isn't in stock at the primary location, then you can set locations for order fulfillment priority. Make sure each location that you want to fulfill from has Fulfill online orders from this location selected. - If you want to customize which location fulfills orders based on location and products, then you can activate multi-origin shipping to use shipping profiles. - If you're using a dropshipping app or fulfillment service to fulfill all of your orders, then you don't need to make any changes to your locations or the default location. The default address of your store is set as your default location. Your default address isn't used by the dropshipping app or fulfillment service, and isn't shown to your customers. 3. If you have defined the priority the right store location should be set automatically. Now the last question would be, how you can dynamically add the correct location to the email template. My best guess would be the liquid object "shop" . Maybe properties like ---> {{shop.address}} If you're lucky this will return the correct value right off the gate. Hope this helps and good luck. :-)

I need another video on how to be a superstar developer or Shopify expert, who can earn $100/hour what's the most important (and advanced) skills that we should know after passing the average skills of (HTML, CSS, JS basics, liquid) because increasing hourly rate from (25-35) to (100) is not only about finding better clients, we should learn more advanced topics I believe
Yes you're right, jumping straight from 35 to 100 is a bit weird (if your previous pricing is publicly visible like on Upwork) However, after getting a few 5-star reviews at 35/h you could easily raise to 40-45. (Just raise by 20-30%, every few good reviews, and make sure pricing is consistently increasing (not randomly jumping back down again)) If your previous pricing is not publicly visible it's even easier. Just keep working with the clients that you currently have to sustain yourself and set yourself a limit to only accept new clients at the new rate you want to hit. :-)
