    Thank you Jan and Mat for this Amazing interview.
    I liked it when Mat said "you shouldn't spend a month building your app " because it happend to me I've spent more the five months 'more than 2 hours a day' building a shopify theme but now I don't really know what to do with it haha

    You asked exccellent questions.
    One helpful point that Matt made, was when a potential user, or a couple of them, made it a Very obvious point that they must have this app by asking Matt when will it be available
    ... and that this response can be translated into the conclusion that there would indeed be many potential users, without having to contact many people.

    Please do the same type of video with a Shopify Theme entrepreneur as well. Maybe someone from Archetype Themes or Maestro theme (or someone else). One important thing this video mentioned about MVP app is that, it should generally take 1 month to build the MVP app. But is it the same for themes? How do you even make MVP version of a theme? It seems like themes has to be a complete product before launching. Also how do you do Market Validation for themes? These are interesting questions that I'd love to see the answers to.
    And as always, thank you very much Jan for the video.

    • @CodingWithJan
      @CodingWithJan  Рік тому +2

      Great input,
      I think in terms of themes, different steps could include:
      - getting as much feedback as possible on the initial designs
      - merchant interviews
      - or if you could build it as a custom theme for one or a few clients at first
      An MVP for themestore would already have to meet all the requirements listed here shopify.dev/themes/store/requirements
      So that's going to be a bit of work, but even then you could start with the sections/features that you think are most important and iterate over time.
      Will definitely try to see if I can get someone from Archetype to talk about this. :-)

    Jan, I’d really love a Freemote-like course but for App Development. I think now with Cli 3.0 and Shopify Functions it has become accessible enough to reach a critical mass

      @CodingWithJan  Рік тому

      Hey Max, great to see you. 😃
      If I remember correctly that was also your feedback in the beginning, cause you were already a bit too advanced back then.
      App Development would be fun, personally, I'm just not sure if I could help people get their first results consistently / predictably (since I've never built a successful app myself yet).
      And if people pay for it I'd definitely want to make sure that's the case 😃
      Maybe it would be doable with a few guest experts

      @@CodingWithJan Hey Jan, loving your content. I heard it’s even passed around Shopify staff!
      One topic is app development - another one is advanced theme development.
      If only there were some advanced course/certification available. Both for myself, but also as a way to efficiently onboard developers that know code and maybe a competitor like Magento, but are new to Shopify. My agency is working a lot with offshore contractors, and it’s proving difficult to get a consistent level of quality. They would know the code to get the job done - but some don’t know about sections and translations and hardcode it into theme.liquid.
      Your course is great for somebody new on this coding journey - but too time-consuming to upskill an existing developer. We’d be the first paying customer if it helped us up our Shopify game

    Great interview!!! Do you need to know Shopify theme development in order to be able to build Shopify apps?
    Also right now I know ui design and html css and very basic JavaScript. Should I learn react or php next in order to build Shopify apps? Trying to learn the least amount possible to be able to get job done from what I know now.

    • @CodingWithJan
      @CodingWithJan  Рік тому +1

      Hey Ruben, glad you liked the interview, thanks for the great feedback! :-)
      If your App has visual elements on the website. (integrates with themes) I think would helpful to understand how themes work.
      If your App app only works on the backend (e.g you do something with order data), then it might not be required as much.
      But either way knowing the basics definitely helps.
      And for the Stack, I'd personally go with NodeJS and React / Polaris. That way you can use a lot of prebuilt components and starter templates. :-)
