i work at a petstore and you’re my #1 rec for pet parents interested in learning about reptiles and I actually learn things because play sand and top soil? brilliant never would have thought of it that’s such a money saver also you made how to set up a bioactive so much simpler than I’ve seen anywhere else.
Thank you! You're the first person I have seen, who got right to the point, addressed all of the pertinent questions and made it very clear to understand. You deserve a lot more subscribers! Great job!
Hi I'm getting a bearded dragon in a couple weeks and I wanted to know do you do this too if you're going to make the top soil mixture with the play sand?
I am changing my leopard gecko from repticarpet to substrate 70/30. ...😭😭😭 i forgot to wash the sand...but i baked the mixture already(2 day process🤦🏾♀️). Is this safe to put non washed sand in enclosure since i forgot to wash the sand? I baked everything already but forgot to wash it 1st😢
You can always tell if you pour out the bag if you see dust come up then you’ll have to wash it. Sometimes the washed bags do require a little bit of a second wash as well
Quick question. After my beardie (3yrs old male) poops, do i scoop out the poop ? And how often should i clean it out. I was thinking of making his tank half and half. Half tile and half playsand.
I started this earlier today, during daylight….. I’m…. Still….. rinsing.😩😂the length of time is massive, but it’s gonna be worth it. I’m on my second bag, but it’s getting clearer
How long after washing the sand would you recommend waiting before adding it into a reptile enclosure? (Was thinking of doing this and mixing with top soil when it's done) :)
when i first started keeping fish and used play sand, i used to think that it was normal for the play sand to make the water like really dirty and that was mostly because i didn't clean it. of course i clean it now that im more expierenced and know more than when i was 5 years ago
@ChiefSweetsUniverse I washed it using this method and it worked to clean it but was still moldy smelling. I let it air out for a few days then added some bleach to it and let it dry again, but it still smelled. I added baking soda to it a couple days ago and it smells normal again now. I guess most people probably wouldn't have to deal with all that but originally, I didnt let it dry completely after using it and stored it in a container with a lid for a few weeks. Now, I know better than to do that again. 😂 Thank you
I've been washing a 17kg bag of sand for 2 hours now. It's clean, however when I fill the bucket of sand with water, and let it sit. The water remains murkey.
I bought "santized" "clean" sand for kids with a certificate... It smelled pretty bad and came in a string bag, which, I assume, supposed to keep it clean (sarcasm) I washed as you did and its been foamy! Foam means bacterias 😬
I don’t ever trust the cleaned sand. I always wash anyway. Yeah keep washing it and you could also boil water and put the sand in a tub with it that’ll be good after but even just washing will be good just have to wash a lot
Most of us aren't patient enough to continue washing the play sand until it runs clear water. 😂 At least, now those of us who watched this do understand that this is a long process. 🐢🦎🐸🐟
I rinse it for over an hour, it don't get clean. For the time and the amount of water you use, it's not even worth it, might even end up costing you more than just buying the expensive clean sand bag.
That’s the whole point really with the already clean washed stuff is you are paying more but you are really paying for convenience so you don’t have to wash it
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I gave up after who knows how long, said it was good enough. Nope, tank so murky I can't even see my hand LOL. Took 24 hours for it to filter and settle. But any disturbance to the sand and it's a nuclear bomb HAHAHA

Oh yeah you’ll be fine the washing is just for taking the dust away.
What if I bought quickcrete washed play sand? Is that the same stuff you’re using and you still have to wash it?

Tried to wash my repti soil with this method, been here for hours now, when will the water go clear? Help I’m so hungry and scared.
Shhhhh just keep washing! It clears when it clears! 😂
😶
How do you dry the sand?
I started this earlier today, during daylight….. I’m…. Still….. rinsing.😩😂the length of time is massive, but it’s gonna be worth it. I’m on my second bag, but it’s getting clearer
Haha I timed mine and it should only take around 30 minutes but I have gotten pretty good at washing
100k coming in no time
I can feel it!

After washing you can add it to the top soil immediately and add to the enclosure it may spike humidity but it’ll dry out over a week

Ha I did the same thing. I think it’s a beginner mistake we all make
Love it
Thank you
What about drying the sand for a reptile enclosure so that it doesn't mess with the humidity?
A lot of people will bake it to get the moisture out
I had no idea I should be washing sand!
Now you don’t have to buy it does cut down on the dust
Oh man, I could've used this like a month ago 😅 My RES tank was so cloudy for so long
Hahaha I know the feeling. Rip your filter
I’d like to see some betta fish videos!
I was thinking of doing some
Awesome!
could you show how to bake topsoil?
Yeah I was thinking about making that video
My play sand is moldy smelling. How do I clean it?
Wash it. Like in the video and try emptying all water out
