I'm a building inspector in BC. If someone called for framing on this I would fail it unless the plumbing, mechanical and electrical were roughed in first. In my experience 90% of framing deficiencies are damage by trades. To approve the framing ahead of trades could be potentially approving notched joists and studs which are undetectable at insulation inspection.

Interesting, that does make sense that additional structural reinforcement would be necessary once holes were punched in the studs to make way for electrical, mechanical and plumbing.

I felt compelled to comment....After watching 3 seasons of episodes..I can't think of a better man to inspect the framing....It's good to see a good man doing good work...Taking pride in your work and doing it right....Idk your reasons for working alone a lot i am sure they are valid reasons...Alone or with a helper you seem to do well either way..I know safety ropes & harnesses can be a bitch to work around and a hinderance but better being safe then sorry....You seem to do well without all the safety garb...Hope the hand/wrist heals up quick, speedy recovery brother....Keep on keepin on..

This was a "Mock" framing inspection, don't you need to be provincially licence? Red Pen?, Can they still see it, green tape or something more visible, he didn't go check the studs on the main, that girder main cross beam load towards the window across the header board, sounds from his tone of voice, seems to be incorrectly installed, is that even allowed? Go back and recheck double studs to main floor...? HVAC are worst, they are cheap on the aluminum HVAC tape, Did they installed Dense Shield Board on outside of house and 100% TyVek house wrap or just gap joints...lots of cutting corners.

Why don't people extend the garages so you can open up your vehicles doors all the way or have garages that are long enough to garage a 8 foot truck? Also hallways be too tight considering furniture is bigger these days. But awesome eagle eye for inspections.

Is it common to pay for an inspection prior to the official inspection? Here the inspector comes, points out items to be fixed. Sometimes there will be a guy or two that goes along and corrects any minor issues before he leaves. And sometimes a crew will leave an item or 2 for the inspector to find. Always something easily corrected...

The top floor ceiling (attic) requires a continuous poly vapour barrier, just the same as any exterior wall. The "sill poly", as we call it, is required sandwiched between the top plates of all interior partition walls on top floor so that the vapour barrier is "continuous". Later, the insulators will install a poly on the ceilings and seal it to the sill poly.

I was just like you last year. I live in GA, what I did was drive to D.R horton jobsites everyday and ask the crews if I could help them for free. It took me about 3 weeks and I found a crew with a hispanic dude that spoke english. He was cool with me helping, and I was able to join there crew and make like 40-50 bucks a day. In a week I was cleaning, than helping with moving shit and nailing, than I was cutting when the previous cutter quit. When someone doesnt come in I'll frame the walls and someone new will cut for me. Just be persistent and drive to the big builders jobsites. I actually sacrificed a corporate job with a big GC to learn how to frame. Idk why but i have a fascinating with framing carpentry lol. These vids are cool, but you will learn more in a week than you will ever learn on youtube by actually doing it. I am actually trying to find a crew that frames up big apartments down here in ATL at the moment, framing spec homes is the same shit over an over. Lastly get the book "Framing floors, walls, and ceiling by fine hombuilding." That book will teach you everything you need to know. On alot of the crews I have worked with the guys are fast and skilled but they don't know the difference between and I joist and floor truss.

@@MattHolstein 30 years ago OSB was lousy. A little bit of moisture and it would turn to mush. Now it’s probably better quality than plywood, at least the stuff from the big orange box.

I'm surprised at how little metal connections you don't have to use. In the U.S, simpson has a stronghold with all of the Engineers and city building code personnel.

In wi we don’t have to do as much punch out shit like cabinet blocking and rail blocking, poly walls etc... but here we have to tyvek the sides and felt the roof of the house which sucks.... I’d rather do the punch out lol

for cabinet blocking, do i have the framers add it in, or wait until after plumbers put their piping in so that the blocks aren’t interfering with their pipes???

You can put it in after ,but it’s a lot harder to put it in around all the pipes and wires. It’s not hard for the plumbers and electricians to cut something out if it’s in their way.

It depends on engineering. Some walls/sections of walls can be deemed braced wall panels, which need blocks/fastners at seams. Other sections that are not BWP (aka sheer panels) do not even need plywood technically. Now this is for Michigan, but may apply elsewhere.
