  • Tuesday, August 20, 2024: It's nearly 9 o'clock. Conversations overlap on a pedestrian-only street. Leaves of lovely trees undulate in a breeze. Above my head, branches bounce beneath an impossibly blue night sky. A tethered German shepherd patiently awaits another morsel of Italian cuisine ... and a sweet pat. Mischievously I hoped that he'd (or she'd) start barking up a storm. Not a real one, of course.
Listen to dinner plates clinking outside Roman Nose restaurant; friends chatting and laughing; audience members applauding a performance at Cafe Corretto; and West and Central African, Latin American and Middle Eastern bike couriers cavorting in a mélange of languages before taking off to deliver digitally ordered dinners. Welcome to Scene 6 of "Urban ASMR."
The enveloping chilliness in the air was a sneak preview of autumn. While some night promenaders strolled, others briskly walked. Some folks on mobile phones spoke in that teeth-chattering way, when an unexpected cold spell makes them realize they're underdressed. Instances of summer shorts were deceptive; the night air was downright chilly! Cable-knit sweaters and wool-blend pants and skirts would've been more appropriate as the night grew long.
Off camera, evidence of cooler temps was clear: Shivering people's hands rubbed their folded arms in an effort to retain body heat. Parents of pooches tugged at leashes to quicken the pace toward the warmth of home. Parents of toddlers raced their strollers in the direction of a nearby hotel. Folks dove into the Grove Street PATH subway. Pairs of stiffened nipples of varying diameters freed themselves from their owners' bra cups, defiantly poking against light-colored blouses and tees.
Undoubtedly, certain body parts were shrinking, too, as the temperature took a dramatic dip. Skirts and dresses were whipped up, down and around as if controlled by libidinous puppeteers in a theater of the absurd.
"Urban ASMR" is my recently launched, audiovisual and sociological experiment that I occasionally will present here on NaturaLeza. It's my hope that you may enjoy a little people-watching or be entertained by mini scenes from my city-within-a-city: Historic Downtown Jersey City.
Thank you for checking out my new video series.💋

Thank you for commenting with enthusiasm. Funny how the footage for this series turns out so well when I'm flat-out exhausted. My energy did perk up as I observed people and their doggies enjoying what the night had to offer.
And, oh my, was it cold, especially after I stopped walking around and sat on one of the benches. All of the interactions warmed my heart.😊

Cool, Sally! Thank you. 😊Being out late and seeing what goes on is new territory for me. People vibing off each other's energy; showing their comedic side as if affected by moonlight; walking their dogs; going on blind dates and taking their spouses on dates -- it all fills me with greater appreciation for humanity and multicultural diversity within it. However, observing the nighttime fun saddens me at times because I now see what I've been missing for 🤐 years.😢 ... From now on, I'm going to stay out 'til nightfall when I travel (within reason and only if the crime rate is low). I appreciate your encouragement and support.🙌🏼🫶🏻
