Eh, these days you're better searching for smaller brands. Pixel and Samsungs are like the iPhones of Android at this point.
What we should talk about is the lack of headphone jacks and even SD/SIM card slots in some of these. Remember when these came with headphones and a charger? Heck, remember when you could take the back off and replace the battery yourself!? I miss that. It was convenient. Now it isn't

If you could just slap a $50 2TB sd card in your phone why would you pay them $600 for the same thing, and then $20 month for more cloud storage because they intentionally bloated your phone. Not to mention you could have multiple sd cards and have virtually infinite storage given that you’re happy to carry sd cards in a backpack

oh innovation's happening alright, just not by the brands you mentioned. Google, Samsung and Apple all are trying to turn their brand into status symbols, fashion accessories which one can proudly flaunt and say "guys look i have X phone!!". Xiaomi, Oneplus, Oppo and a multitude of other Chinese phone brands are the ones trying whacky, sometimes gimmicky but mostly useful and innovative new designs (eg. Si/C batteries, Oxygenos 15 etc.)

the EU and south Asia markets are a whole different beast compared to the horrendous us and Canada market, even Mexico has better options. dont even get me started on android's Chinese apple equivalent xiaomi on how they have been just about the only manufacturer who has both been making uniquely designed phones with similar os design language to ios.
also they are currently fighting elon in the ev space with their su7 (but the main issue is production issues for xiaomi if they get that sorted out they would be a better alternative to elons shit boxes and Tim cooks refined fashion statements) and dont get me started on the rugged phone space that market has great design and better android os design language
