A very controversial thing. On the one hand, it is a terrifying ritual, vile and vicious in its essence. On the other hand, in the days when your race will need extra warriors, such a ritual may seem like a gift of fate. But only on condition of the voluntary transfer of the skin from an already dying brother. A donation from five who will die anyway, in order to give new life to one.
Or you can use the skins of those who in any case will be killed for belonging to the Wyrm, for example, the same Black Spirals. Although in this case you need to be very careful, for anything connected with the Wyrm is dangerous, be it alive, dead, or neither.
As always, thanks for a great video. Very interesting and informative.

    • @TheMapleTable

It could be used I suppose to replenish the ranks from warriors fallen in battle, but would that count as skin given willingly? Hard to say I guess.

@@TheMapleTable I think it would be more correct to discuss this thing in advance. This should be a voluntary step, like organ donation for those in need of transplant. The consonant will have to give some kind of oath or permission, and in return receive some privileges. This will both properly satisfy the conditions of the ritual and will be respectful towards the donor.

Skin Dancers in my opinion are one of the most interesting things in world of darkness
and a story i have with them is as so:
my story teller wanted to involve a Skin Dancer but in a more fun and interesting way and so he created a
Skin (skin dancer) Dancer... yep a weird name...
we meet a Kin who hated the skin dancers so much that his only solution was to become one of them... and so he hunted a SD pack and turned himself into one.
a weird story but it was fun lol

I had one as a PC at my table a few years back, who was born in an… Unsanctioned marriage between an Uktena Garou and a Get Kinfolk. Eventually the Get realized that the Uktena female had borne a child and they were fairly angered by the entire situation and attacked her pack with a similarly sized pack, only to be overtaken by a pack of BSD when everyone was either already dead or severely injured. The female Uktena was away from the area at the time, only to return to the scene of battle. Fraught with guilt and terror and a desire that her daughter right the wrongs that had happened, she took her pack’s(her family’s) skins, as well as her husband’s family’s(the Fenrir that had tried to deal retribution for imagined crimes) skins and used the Rite to make a skin-suit for her young daughter.
Years later the daughter would be introduced to a Caern as a Lost Cub, her mother having succumbed to harano and dying as her medicine lodge burnt around her.
I intend to reintroduce her as an NPCwhen my sons and their friends start playing WWtA in the future.

They have to compel their target to stay in one form and somehow flay them alive, and presumably do so quicker than the target can regenerate. That has to be one of the worst fates one can suffer in the World of Darkness.*

This would be a very involved and complicated ritual by the established lore in WoD. It seems like you would already have to be quite powerful or otherwise someone of extreme intellect to even have a chance of pulling this off (and rightly so). Were I to have a Skin Dancer in one of my games, it would probably be one of the most dangerous things my players could face. They should definitely be a cut above your "average" Garou.

I'm currently running an imbued hunter that found out he was kinfolk and through that knowledge has now become a Skin Dancer that's causing major problems for the players. Now he's not overpowered in the sense that he can't be overwhelmed by more than 2 players in a pack of 5 it's just that he's so devious and roguelike that the players absolutely hate & fear him. It's so strange that they could just all attack him at the same time and he'd not stand a chance. But the thought of what he is frightens the living crap out of them. _I gave him this sorta mumbo jumbo speech pattern where he goes on and on about the nature of reality and how he's only adding to the peacefulness by inhabiting the nature of the beast._

A story set on an abandoned oil drilling platform out at sea that has been reclaimed by a skindancer on a redemption arc. A skindancer with ties to the rokea and the Garou alike, and an unusual form that both might find rage inducing. A monstrous creature in service of gaia waging war on pentex from a forest grown on a oil drilling platform in the midle of the sea while working with a cairn with a mix of different tribes.

Good video, focusing on a lesser-known group. Quick aside, Azteca and Maya aren't tribes. I don't know as much about the Inca civilization. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding the peoples labeled "mesoamerican." I highly recommend people put in the time for research when they pull from indigenous cultures.
I do find skin dancers very interesting. In one of my first vampire games, I had a Sabbat pack in Mexico help out the Voivode of Frontera Corozal who was one of the OG sabbat conquistadores take out the Balam in the area. Staring down the barrel of a gun, or talons in this instance, he turned to the infernal powers to bring disease on the Balam and their kinfolk. He kept as many of them as he could too, suspended on hooks, flesh crafted to oblivion, deep under his haven sustained by vitae. Eventually, a small group of Balam and their kinfolk tried to take him out but failed. Three surviving kinfolk found his relatives and beyond the wails of agony and insanity they told the three to take five of the captives. I think you can see where this is going. It was a fun and crazy story. Not-so-Balam, jealous childer, a hoarding Voivode, and a Demon named Balam because it wasn't confusing at all. I know this isn't a sabbat video, but I imagine there might be similarities between running sabbat and BSD or Skin Dancers. If there was a moral of my story, it's that sometimes you can't create more monstrous characters than your PCs.
What are your thoughts on "the Bitten" from MES? It feels like a weird identity between Skin Dancers and regular Garou to me. Do you think they might do what WW originally intended for Skin Dancers?
Nevertheless, Keep up the good work.

@@LordPyro25 Yeah guess you are right, making one person only being able to mass produce Skin Dancers would make it too easy. BUT I'm sure if BSD packs started putting the word out that they are training people to become master ritualists for the rite Kinfolks from all over the world would come, including powerhungry humans (like myself) would spend years developing the 5 dots in rituals.
After all there is even a proper path for training it, I believe the name is Meat Suit: wich the Skinner wana be takes the skin of 5 normal humans and stich them with a spirit making a fetich wich allows the user to take on the body shape of the victims, like their hair, eyes, and skin color.
