A Few More Things Added To Steam Deck
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2022
- It’s been a few months since we launched Steam Deck, and we’re floored by the excitement we’ve seen as more and more customers receive their Steam Decks and share impressions. The team has loved seeing pictures and videos of where you’re using it, how you’re using it, how you’ve customized it, and what you’re playing. Keep it coming!
In the meantime, we've continued working through our own list of bugs to fix and features to add. We’ve also been paying attention to our customers, and a good number of the updates in the last couple months are directly due to customer feedback. Please keep that coming as well! Here's a quick overview of what we've shipped since our last video update, including the big update we shipped last week. Read the full update here: store.steampowered.com/news/a...

It's always a shock to see Valve officially communicate anything, even with something like the Steam Deck
True

#savetf2
Not really they have been pretty consistently transparent with the steam deck at least
#ThankKaci
Steamdecks partnership with Ifixit is amazing. Every customer has the Right to Repair and you love to see valve embrace it. Good shit.

I'm hoping this could maybe lead to an OLED upgrade being available.

The actual updates improving almost everything and with the focus on customer agency is unbelievable
despite Valve’s rage inducing apathy for some things they tend to be rather consumer friendly
@@protocetid Honestly, them ignoring most of their problems isn't half bad. Would you believe me if I said that's not even *as* bad as people make it out to be?
Sure, TF2 is suffering with the bot issues. But if it were under any other management, the game would have been either :
A - shut down long ago, or
B - made into a mainstream micro-transaction fest (the economy of TF2 would be absolutely fucked) that tries to completely limit its community and their involvement (eg. No Community Market, trading, custom servers etc., examples include the limitations of other shooters like CoD or BF)
Them not dealing with most (not all) fan complaints just seals their reputation. Think about it : they implemented some measly anti-bot funcfions into TF2. All it did was fuck over F2P players.
Same goes for every other Valve product. Half-Life fans still want a 3rd installment. Them not dealing with it makes it so that they don't have to take a risk with the franchise failing or becoming worse than expected. So many franchises died out due to demands of sequels up until the point where one game fucked it all up. Metal Gear Survive, Dead Space 3 etc.
That being said, I still wish they could give TF2 a glance. The community's dedicated enough and doing their damnest to keep the game alive, after all.
@@mark030a Part of me agrees with you on doing nothing for TF2, I’d find its death kind of cathartic. The fans can be toxic and entitled, yet Valve talked about upgrading the anti cheat for years. Doubt TF2 has ceased to generate significant revenue. Isn’t it immoral for Valve to accept money while letting paying customers suffer and not do what they said they were planning to? CSGO has superior anti cheating measures that everyone has been telling them to port already.
Hard disagree on HL3, don’t believe the PR nonsense they espoused upon the reveal of HLA. They’re not that afraid of tarnishing the image of their games or disappointing fans. Artifact did both yet they tried again after the first was thoroughly lambasted, Valve didn’t care they just saw those sweet dollar signs. The examples you mentioned are irrelevant because they’re games that sacrificed the art of the craft to maximize profit. Dead Space 3 was made less horror and more action because CEOs who are paid too much saw the 1st genre had less popularity than the 2nd. Konami’s game was them kicking out the artist and selling out Metal Gear’s soul. Valve wouldn’t do that they made HLA, a passion project meant to grow the VR install base so they can keep making VR passion projects.
Read the Combine Overwiki’s HL3 page so you can see that through leaks we discovered hints of some interesting tech they had for the game. Then they discovered how to make endless easy money with TF2 loot boxes and VR and they became indifferent to the third HL.
@@protocetid I wouldn't be so sure about them not wanting to tarnish reputation. To be more precise, I'm talking about mainline titles/franchises And not gimmick ideas they thought up. Releasing HLA wasn't as much of a double edged sword as say releasing any mainline title from their old but huge franchises that made them known in the first place. Like, come on, you really want to compare Artifact or HLA or that office Portal spin-off to mainline franchises such as HL or TF as a whole?
Given the circumstances they were and still are in, I'd say this is the most likely assumption. Them not communicating 90% of the time doesn't exactly help me realize their exact thought methods, so I suppose I'm just going off of assumptions that would make the most sense at this point.
@@mark030a What gimmicks? Do you know exactly what new features were in HL3 that you can hand wave them away so flippantly? There’s an old video of Gabe talking smugly about HL3 doing things no FPS had done before. They just needed a single gameplay hook and new levels and it would’ve served the franchise better than 10+ years of teasing then radio silence. Hell it was originally called Episode 3, way less effort to create an episode instead of a full fat sequel. Nobody would’ve batted an eyelid if the scope was smaller.
How was announcing a new game requiring extra equipment and not the sequel everyone waited for not risky? We know post launch how consumers would react to a VR exclusive prequel, the company was anxious enough to have a bunch of rehearsed PR to mitigate potential uproar that would tank HLA’s sales (and possibly VR reception and Index sales). A piece of that PR is the very claim Valve was “oooh so scawwwed” of gamers and their unsatisfiable standards.
Here’s where I disprove it had nothing to do with that and theit purported great cautiousness over the image of their big IPs. Gabe got asked about HL3 in 2015 and he kind of scoffed at making “a super classic kind of product” (in other words: “we think developing non VR games is boring, screw the fans”). Second, TF2 is in horrible condition and that is hurting its image. If Valve maintained reputation as carefully as is claimed they wouldn’t have let the situation degraded so badly. Let’s not forget how buggy TF2 was until a few years ago. A casual player will get on TF2, get instakilled and have very toxic things lobbed their way.

@@LudusAurea Imagine defending a company after they don't make a content update for their most successful game after 5 years, milk it for money using content they didn't even make, refuse to fix the major bot problem that makes the game unplayable for 3 years, advertise it as "constantly updated" and "the most fun you can have online," and lie every now and then claiming they "think they have good solutions" for existing issues and proceed to do nothing because you have no idea what the original comment was referring to. Hows the battery ??
I'm very glad to see you folks continuing to support and update the Steam Deck. I'm not in a spot at the moment to grab one myself, but the next time I need to upgrade or have any kind of money lying around, I will definitely grab one.
If you're taking notes for a Steam Deck 2, I would love to see an old-school removable/swappable battery, like what the older ThinkPads, Gameboys, or even flip- or smart-phones used to have. From what I've seen people report, the performance is still varied enough that battery life can be inconsistent at times across titles. Having the option to have a backup battery to swap in would be great for peace of mind and roadtrip functionality.

A lot of small parts of the steam desktop app already have that new UI style - the Library, the game properties window, the library folder manager, etc
they have stated before that the steam os's ui is the future plan for Big picture mode eventually
