- I thought I was quite a cultured kid! I've seen Jim Carrey's The Mask from the 90s.... except rewatching that film.. I realised I hadn't. No, what I had seen was the terrible sequel - The Son of The Mask. Let's see how much of my memoryw as correct on this chaotic fever dream of a film...

My question is why the Mom wanted a baby so bad only to leave to New York for a week after getting the Baby she always wanted
The more you think about the forced baby, the worse this entire plot becomes.
@@chaoscontroller316 wait...
THE PLOT CAN GET WORSE!?
As soon as you see the father wants to be an animator, the concept of a rushed family becomes more toxic.
@@chaoscontroller316 I never actually thought of it like that.
She wanted to force the Dad into playing Child support to spite him
This is the WORST movie I've ever seen and I'm not even exaggerating.
Sadly it's not the worst movie I've seen 🙁
It is...until you watch human centipede.
Lou Lumerick of the New York Post, gave the film a zero-star rating and said that, "Parents who let their kids see this stinker should be brought up on abuse charges; so should the movie ratings board that let this suggestive mess slip by with a PG rating."

New line cinema be like: Hey remember how much fans loved the 1st mask because of Jim Carrey's performance, well i'm sure they will love the sequel much more without him in it
Actually Jim rejected the offer to return for the sequel, reasons? Well it’s because after filming Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls he realized that playing the same character is not fun, there’s your reason why he didn’t return.
@@tonymata8070 new line cinema: now that the best part of the last movie is gone, let’s continue making this by taking everything that was great from the 1st movie and ruin it. People will love it
@@jackrodakthemovieguy1726 I mean they’re the ones who gave the go ahead on the script and the toned down direction it went with, what made the first film a success is because it was made for adults in mind and not focusing on the child demographic.
He changed his tune decades later, as he not only returned for the Dumb and Dumber sequel, but actually wanted to play Dr. Robotnik a second time (tankfully) for Sonic 2. But the worst thing is, Stanley Ipkiss didn't have to be the Mask in the second film. In the comics, the mask went from person to person. We could have had a decent sequel with another actor, maybe base it more on the comics, but instead we got this stupid thing.
@@mightyfilm Exactly, you can actually focus on another person whose in possession of The Mask and we focus on said person. All you have to do is right a great story in order for it to work, but this person obviously didn't care and neither did the studio.

The worst part about The Son of the Mask is that Tim can’t even play Mario Kart properly

My sincere apologies for you.
This movie's tone and focus was COMPLETELY different than the original movie. The first movie was made for teens and young adults. It was basically this crazy superhero character, who was a cartoon, who would pop out into the real world and wreak havoc. THIS movie, on the other hand, was OBVIOUSLY targeted at kids. It looks and feels like it was directed, and written by the Spy Kids director. It's even shot completely like one of his movies, with all the annoying zoomed in closeups and cartoony overreactions of every character. The tone of this movie wasn't at all like the original, and completely misses the point of "A cartoon character appears in the real world causing havoc", that the original had. This one was more like the entire world was a cartoon, and all this cartoon craziness is happening. It really feels like it has nothing to do with the original, at all. Not the same tone. Not the same feel. And everything, including the writing, feels right out of Spy Kids, Shark Boy and Lava Girl, etc... In the original, when cartoon stuff happened, it worked. This movie, the cartoon stuff just looks like really bad, out of place, CGI, that just punches you in the face for the whole run time. They made this movie for young kids with attention deficite disorder. The camera and everyone on it has to be moving, or jump cutting, like the camera person and editor were hopped up on amphetamines. This movie missed the point of the original, missed the tone of the original, and wasn't even made for the audience of the original. It's painful.
what is really weird about this movie is that it is obviously directed at kids, but that the same time, it has partial nudity and sex scenes. whenever a movie cannot figure out who its audience is is a TERRIBLE sign. it reminds me of Kindergarten Cop 2, a film that was made like 26 years after the original (which was originally a family-friendly film) and had gratuitous sexual implications and objectification of women (not to mention the fuckin weird 30 year age gap between the main characters). totally a red flag when a "sequel" comes out years after a decent film with completely new cast and writers
I liked this movie as a kid, but the only thing I remember is one scene:
Father: "Say daddy"
Baby: *in a deep voice* "Mommy"
I dunno why I find this so funny
*MOTHER*
YES😹
MOTHER
Dad: Come on say daddy
Baby (With deep male voice): mommy
Dad: what? 😳😳
Baby (With deep male voice): i said mommy or daddy could you tell me and answer my choice
Dad: why are you have a Boss voice and why are you saying
I'm so glad to be born in 1990 and seen only The Mask. Nothing more.
I've actually read the original comic. It's awesome, and very violent. Go read it
I honestly feel mortified for growing up on this movie. I used to play it all the time between the ages of 3 - 7. My family had a two disc collection of the mask films. I only watched the original one twice but I really liked the now crappy "sequel"
I too was born in 1990, and I watch the 1994 The Mask too. 🥰
You are lucky.
I was only born in 2005, but only saw Son of the Mask twice in my life, and only parts of it.

The Notebook 2004 1080p what movie name
The Boss Baby is a 2017 American computer-animated comedy film[4] produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Loosely based on the 2010 picture book of the same name by Marla Frazee,[5] the film was directed by Tom McGrath, from a screenplay by Michael McCullers, and stars the voices of Alec Baldwin as the title character, along with Miles Bakshi, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Tobey Maguire. The first installment in The Boss Baby franchise, the plot follows a boy helping his baby brother who is a secret
agent in the war for adults' love between babies and puppies.
The Boss Baby premiered at the Miami International Film Festival on March 12, 2017, and was released on March 31.[6] The film received generally mixed reviews from critics upon release, who praised its animation and voice performances (particularly Baldwin's), but criticized its humor and confusing premise. It also grossed $528 million worldwide against its $125 million budget. The film received Best Animated Feature nominations at the Academy Awards, Annie Awards, and Golden Globes.[7][8]
A sequel, The Boss Baby: Family Business, is scheduled to be released on September 17, 2021 while a Netflix television series, The Boss Baby: Back in Business, premiered on April 6, 2018.

One tiny nitpick: The rules of The Mask is something widely called "Toon Power". The concept of Toon Power is "If it's comedic, a character can do it." in a TL:DR at least.
I think it depends on whos wearing it, like stanley ipkiss loves cartoons and Tim wants to be an animator so they become toon-like whereas like when Dorian wears it hes like monstrous. They semi explain it in the first film with the psychiatrist saying that it amplifies your innermost desires. Although you probably already know all this! 😀

I had the same experience! I always thought my favorite childhood film was The Mask and only TEN YEARS LATER I come to find I was very VERY wrong.
Just wanted to say taht morning sickness is a total misnomer. People who experience it tend to be nauseous all day and can vomit at any time.
I remember the nose, the ultrasound scene, and the fact I felt so bad for the father and was rooting for the dog to get rid of the baby when I was a little kid
This movie made me so upset because I loved the original Mask
This movie is the dictionary definition of what a bad fever dream feels like. It's confusing, it's painful, it's grotesque, and it leaves you wanting to just erase the entire experience of watching it out of your head. Alternatively, there is another movie I think you should take a look at that's more like a "good" fever dream. It's still confusing and bizarre but also very creative. It's called Monkeybone and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Basically, an aspiring cartoonist who's just trying to live as normal a life as possible after having some really negative past experiences with his mental health ends up in a coma. Being in this coma is what takes him to "Downtown" which is sort of like an abstract purgatory for people suffering specifically from comas. Here, the main character meets one of his cartoon creations (a hyper-energetic and crass monkey) and is essentially tormented by him throughout the rest of the film. What I really like about the movie is the implication that the monkey is really just a side of the main character that he tries desperately to suppress which ends up having some seriously negative consequences. The movie isn't for everyone, but it's definitely a fun ride and I think you'd enjoy experiencing it. It also has some great practical effects and some extremely smooth stop motion animation that I was honestly quite surprised by.
Damn guy you wrote entire essay just to suggest watching movie pretty epic ngl
It's telling that the best project related to the "star" of this movie was as his semi-recurring voice acting role in The Cleveland Show. And yes, it's his best work.

Seeing this movie in theaters when I was 6 was legitimately my first experience with secondhand embarrassment, and possibly the anxiety I would have as an adult and apparently inherited. I was legitimately embarrassed by the movie, as if everyone in the theater with me would see me watching it and judge me, even though everyone else was... Also watching the movie.maybe even feeling the same way.
It also just occurred to me that like, the reason for all the old school cartoon style effects in the original movie was that Jim Carrey's character was like, really into classic cartoons and that was one of his things. It happens in the sequel .. because it happened in the first one.
This movie is beloved to me. I watched when I was little and similarly thought it was the original Mask movie. I absolutely adore how comical it is. I know it's terrible, but it's also so much fun to watch!
