Honestly, a horror movie that starts with the vhs scene on the boat titled "Good Morning, Lucy" about this woman with amnesia trying to escape kidnapper Adam Sandler every day while slowly uncovering more about her own life through talking with Adam Sandler and keeping a journal does sound like an infinitely better movie. I mean, the amnesia itself is a pretty solid horror twist to begin with.
And the final twist of the movie is he gave her the head injury to put her in that situation (though that would probably be a bit obvious during the film)
The thing about the ending that's the worst is like.... imagine when she had to wake up while being pregnant. Like, just with information from years ago, wakes up on a boat pregnant, terrifying.
The entire premise is insane enough for it to be canceled when proposed. I don’t know how this managed to be produced without one person working on it seeing the issue
Pov: Your last memory is you going to bed in your home, where you live with your dad and brother. You wake on a strange boat, see video tape next to your bed and you watch it. The tape tells you that 20 plus years have gone by and your family and friends are dead, despite that from your perspective they were alive yesterday. You also learn that you have husband and child. You walk up on deck where your supposed husband and child are quietly waiting for you. You stare out into an endless sea surrounding you on all sides, you have no where to escape. Your "husband" walks up and kisses you on the cheek and your child, who you don't recognize, hugs you. Your husband tells you 'Alright I just need to finish recording my review of 50 First Dates for my UA-cam channel and we can start heading back to land.'

I always thought about how terrifying it would be to wake up for months on end and discover you're pregnant when they revealed she had a kid at the end. Not to mention, how did she notice she was pregnant to begin with? Did Sandler have her taking pregnancy tests every morning or did she just wake up noticeably showing after a while? When her due date approached did she just wake up in a hospital bed?
I wondered this too! Also the dysphoria that would come with that too. Like you wake up pregnant with no memory of everything? Or when she grows older, how would that work? Would she not recognize herself? It seems like a horror movie in disguise.

@@DameOfDiamonds Any suggestions? It’s not my go-to genre and the few anime romcoms I’ve seen have been…lacking. (And that’s deliberately discounting the shonen Romance Subplots/Guy Gets The Girl Because Protagonist) I think the only one I found that was actually sweet as the Actual Romance was “Snow White with the Red Hair” (which started to lose my interest after season1, but tbf it was also getting nigh impossible to find episodes in the right order) But other ones…like Sailor Moon or Skip Beat…they squick me out. I love Fruits Baskets but NOT for (any of) the romance, I’m here for the foundfam and friendships healing
Most UA-cam channels do deep dives on whatever Marvel movie's just come out. Alpharad will do a deep dive on an 18 year old romcom to explain why it's actually a horror movie and I am here for it.
Okay but hear me out. This as a horror movie, only she escapes and her short-term memory loss inadvertently becomes a boon for her once she's far away and safe, because she can't remember Sandler at all.
Only for her to be at a diner eating some food after having escaped that horrifying scenario, and then adam sandler sits down an introduces himself to her for the first time, again.
I just recently had this film played to me (recent as in, like, around March-April) by a psychology teacher. I missed the first 3rd of the movie. That first third was very crucial in understanding that the writing was done by a serial kidnapper, it seems. I have been scarred.
Adam Sandler is an enigma. And honestly, I don’t think there is anything we can do to stop him from making RomComs that is essentially him taking a Vacation in a new tropical locale and kissing different women who unknowingly get hired as his next love interest victim.
I watched this when it released on my 13th birthday in the cinema and even then I thought it was weird and creepy. The idea of waking up heavily pregnant and having no idea how, when and why really messed with my head.
same here. I think I was 16 when I saw this I was so genuinely horrified by the thought of waking up fully pregnant without knowing how that I had nightmares T_T they did NOT think that one through
Even when I was a kid seeing this movie, all I could think of was how terrifying it would be to have this condition and wake up PREGNANT, with no memory of how it happened. Can you imagine waking up tomorrow at full term and being told, "hey, you're giving birth today, it's Adam Sandler's kid?" 50 First Dates is a fucking horror movie.
@@ironhidex7554 He actually mentioned waking up to find yourself suddenly a decade older when you were just a decade younger. And having that ton of bricks dropped on yourself for the rest of your unnatural life. The premise is intrinsically fucked up regardless of the quality of the film. I would not wish this upon my worst enemy.
This video nailed it for me. I just finished seen “jump force” and “balan wonderworld” from this saga again. Alpharad as always delivering awesome content.
I love Alpha branching out his content. It feels now less like a gaming channel and more like “Jacob, a complex person with diverse interests, and he can be funny and charismatic about all of them”. Plus, the fans come because they like Jacob, so we’ll watch pretty much anything so long as Jacob’s doing what he does.
The fact that he was on a boat for this really made the horror element hit home. It started to feel like a person desperately trying to explain what happened after I've woken up unprompted on a boat with Adam Sandler
I promise you if the movie was formatted like Memento where the chronological order of events are reversed, with nothing at all changed, it *would* be a psychological horror. Could you imagine going to see a rom com movie that starts with a girl trapped on a boat with a VHS tape that says "Good morning, Lucy"? Like what the fuck.
The ending of 50 first dates is one of my top 3 greatest fears and has been since I saw the movie as a child and tried to imagine what that would've been like for her while she was pregnant
Adam Sandler really said "y'know what? Gaslight Gatekeep Girlbossing an amnesiac into falling in love with me sounds like a good movie plot" and they actually rolled with it
It's really a film where after a dozen or more watches you just have to ask, what happens if her brother dies or her father or the car breaks down or the Cafe closes or any little minuscule thing?
Sandler's antics aside, did you all know the ending of this movie apparently inspired some real life treatments for amnesia?...and that for the most part they WORKED? Apparently, for all the wrongness of the movie, it actually got some aspects of Anterograde Amnesia (that's what Barrymore's character has, by the way) in a surprisingly accurate matter. For a real life comparison, search Clive Wearing's case. It's illuminating, to say the least!
The fact that Alpha is making more diverse content is great because when waiting for his next video, you don’t know if it’s about a game, a movie or something he does outside of that
Another note on the ending song, one of the recurring lyrics is also "why can't you see that you belong *to* me" which is incredibly possessive compared to alternations of it in other songs, such as "you belong *with* me".
This is my thoughts on the movie exactly, but when i bring it up to people they always say "Nooooo, it's romantic, stop being a hater." I feel very vindicated now, thank you Mr.Rad
who the hell did you talk to that calls it "romantic", like, i get that to me, what alpharad is saying is just something that sounds like a woke twitter now activist rant on how "evil" this is, but even i wouldn't see it as neither "romantic" nor "gaslighting", since it just some dumb comedic movie that, like, comedy, is not for everyone.
The competing moods of the menacing music and the sunny day on a boat are really sending me, great work Jacob, would definitely watch you shit on more Adam Sandler movies from scenic locations.
This sounds vaguely like the relationships in Stardew Valley if we're being honest: people learning off a person's daily routine and schedule just to stalk them and gaslight them into a relationship where the person gives them whatever they want
Love how Alpharad can take a romcom with THE sandler and then turn it into a horror film just by switching perspectives. Just imagine waking up each and every time to people you don't even know or remember in someplace completely different than what you're used to. Then remember that you'll never get used to it. So you live with that fear of ignorance each and every time, while also not knowing if the people around you are dangerous or not. Every. Single. Day. 👀👀 Has to be really taxing on the heart
technically, the "every single day" thing doesn't matter cause she doesn't remember that it's happening every single day, so it really just happens to her once.
@@RhinoHorn7 That's fair. But thats only like mentally. Physically she's literally experiencing fear and confusion at the very beginning of the day. Like, heart racing, sweating bullets, large increase of stress. If not the horror movie aspect, I'm p sure it's still bad for her health
Do you know which episode? I spent a while about a month ago trying to find a specific one after someone told me I should listen to "the heroin episode." (It's the one that starts with scholastic book fairs)
Alpharad is turning into like a Super Eyepatch Wolf style of Variety and I'm ALL FOR IT. Bring more creative out there shit that I never knew I wanted.
My dads fiancée has something similar, but not to this extreme. A couple times a year, she'll lose the last year or so of year memory. She journals every night (or most nights) just in case she has a "rewind" She did warn my dad about it after the first month or so of dating, but it's still scary for her, and it can be hard on my dad as well.
One thing that I always think of is that one day she had to have that baby. Imagine waking like it’s a normal day and suddenly you are full term and your only memory of that entire day is the fact you need to give birth out of nowhere to a baby if some guy you don’t remember at all… Absolutely horrifying.
WHY IS EVERYTHING THIS MAN PUMPS OUT SO DARN WATCHABLE!!!! Like seriously, I was not expecting to watch Alpharad on a boat in what I can only assume is Marina Del Rey, talking about a movie starring Adam Sandler that I've never heard about, and be this... Entertained? Empty (What's the differnece), at the end of it....
One way to make this movie truly a horror film is to do this from amnesia girl's perspective, but starting from the last wake up, and slowly progressing to the first, so you're just as confused at the beginning, and you slowly start piecing together what happened as you approach the "start"
This movie is just a movie that makes me ask myself "dear god, what am I looking at?" And Alpharad just saved me 2 hours of torture to watch, while on a boat.
The fact that all he really had to do was just describe the movie from the viewpoint of the female lead to make it horror is the real key to it all. Which is more an indictment of Adam Sandler rom coms than anything else.
Not the notification or content I was expecting, but please do make more of these Alpha, it's so interesting to watch your takes on media as a content creator and entertainer yourself. The Space Jam 2 video is still one of my favorites on the channel
THANK YOU! I've had people tell me I'm wrong when I say that this movie is creepy as all hell and not at all romantic. If this came across as an actual news story, people would be out with pitchforks to murder the guy, and I think rightfully so!
I like the fact that he used the soundtrack of A Hat in Time in this video after I’ve just finished streaming that game on Twitch and UA-cam, which is a huge coincidence.
I like the fact that Alpharad (or his editor), has an identical taste in game music to me this episode. It really helped me connect with Adam on an emotional level.
My high school did an unofficial musical adaptation of this movie, I think it was kind of illegal. I played 10 Second Tom, I had a solo and everything, I was really good in it...
A natural direction to take for someone praised for his storytelling capability no matter what the topic is. The production quality looks like this movie kept him awake at night so he just immediately had to talk about it lol I like that. Good job
The unhinged spiral of confusion and hatred was hilarious and the fact that he’s on a boat himself is a great touch, I was waiting for his reveal of being stuck there with Adam Sandler lol

@@sunnisideupplz3920 I didn't even think about the aging aspect. You wake up tomorrow and all the sudden you went from 26 to 62. That would be terrifying.
@@MrIHasHeadphones Right?! I would probably have a panic attack every morning. 🙃
@@MrIHasHeadphones This is addressed in the movie when Adam Sandler asks the girl's dad about it.
Sandler: "You can't just let her live the same day over and over again. What are you gonna do when she wakes up one day and she's 80?"
Girl's dad: *serious look* "I ask myself that question *every day.*"
I always just wondered what happens if she stays up all night.
Can she get like, 3 days of continuous awareness if she stays up? Or will she still reset at midnight or something?
A lot of rom-coms from the early 2000s were essentially "shitty guy gaslights girl, learns nothing and still gets the girl".
Oh even before that. Overboard is a strong example of this, as well as classics like Smokey & the Bandit.
Ie why I hate romcoms and good ones have to go pspspspspsps
What the FUCK
This is why I only watch anime romcoms
@@DameOfDiamonds
Any suggestions?
It’s not my go-to genre and the few anime romcoms I’ve seen have been…lacking. (And that’s deliberately discounting the shonen Romance Subplots/Guy Gets The Girl Because Protagonist)
I think the only one I found that was actually sweet as the Actual Romance was “Snow White with the Red Hair” (which started to lose my interest after season1, but tbf it was also getting nigh impossible to find episodes in the right order)
But other ones…like Sailor Moon or Skip Beat…they squick me out.
I have been scarred.
what was your teacher's angle? The amnesia or how to profile whatever Adam Sandler is in this movie?
I want to know what your psychology teacher had to say about this movie.
Oh fuck you had a psych teacher show you this movie too???
@@bentobias737 i had two different psych classes play this movie. It hurt more the second time.
@@natkatmac WHY IS THIS A COMMON THING.
I'm convinced that Alpharad could convince me of anything given 10+ minutes and this video continues to reinforce that belief.
Adam Sandler is an enigma. And honestly, I don’t think there is anything we can do to stop him from making RomComs that is essentially him taking a Vacation in a new tropical locale and kissing different women who unknowingly get hired as his next love interest victim.
Dang, your comment got spammed by bots, but yes I agree

list of movies alpharad feels so strongly about that he needs to make a review for
- space jam 2
- 50 first dates
he reviewed the sonic movie
I can’t wait to see what movie is going to evoke such a reaction from Mr. Rabon next.
Another movie he feels strongly about but with no review is Spy Kids 3. Rip Gyrados.
Space jam dvd
@@neutralspecial1413 I'd be excited to see that, since Spy Kids 3 is also absolutely crazy but I is actually pretty good.
I watched this when it released on my 13th birthday in the cinema and even then I thought it was weird and creepy. The idea of waking up heavily pregnant and having no idea how, when and why really messed with my head.
Especially at age 13 when you’re coming terms with how fucked up and scary female biology is. Sounds like actual hell
Can you imagine waking up tomorrow at full term and being told, "hey, you're giving birth today, it's Adam Sandler's kid?"
50 First Dates is a fucking horror movie.
Pretty sure the dad even brings it up when hes trying to run sandler off
@@ironhidex7554 He actually mentioned waking up to find yourself suddenly a decade older when you were just a decade younger. And having that ton of bricks dropped on yourself for the rest of your unnatural life. The premise is intrinsically fucked up regardless of the quality of the film. I would not wish this upon my worst enemy.
So glad someone is bringing this up. I watched this movie as a kid and saw Adam Sandler as a psychotic stalker to a girl with no memory
Good to know, you’re not the only one who felt that way about this film
Alpharad Deluxe: "you will never predict this channels next upload"
Alpharad: "That's my title now, thank you very much."
The real plot twist is that the rest of the Persona 5 series will be uploaded on main channel
@@Kalesoup_ it's unreasonable to hope for the impossible.
(Wait a minute, P5R is coming to switch)
This video nailed it for me. I just finished seen “jump force” and “balan wonderworld” from this saga again.
Alpharad as always delivering awesome content.
I love how far a little color grading and good music choice can turn a "romcom" into a horror movie. Best thing I've seen in awhile 🤣
Imagine waking up everyday having to be reminded that Adam Sandler is your husband
God, I remember you talking about this movie on your podcast, and now you made a full video on it. Cant wait to see what this is going to be about
Yeah I thought I heard him talk about this before
Alpharad has a podcast?
Welcome to the bald podcast
@@yeah5895 yeah it's called How Did We Get Here?
What episodes were they?
To be honest, I thought alpha being on a boat in this video was leading up to, “I stranded my friends on a boat/ abandoned island… but for real.”
I'd watch this video. I'd love this video
How do you know that's not what he did right after?
Adam Sandler really said "y'know what? Gaslight Gatekeep Girlbossing an amnesiac into falling in love with me sounds like a good movie plot" and they actually rolled with it
This entire movie was probably just an excuse for Adam Sandler to go to Hawaii
I love how he filmed the whole thing on a boat just to fit the theme
she had a child??? imagine waking up pregnant and not knowing what's going on at first that's terrifying
isn't that what happened in the original story of sleeping beauty or something 😟
That’s amazing!!! Thanks for sharing!
The fact that Alpha is making more diverse content is great because when waiting for his next video, you don’t know if it’s about a game, a movie or something he does outside of that
I love it when UA-camrs go on spontaneous rants about some random piece of media but they talk about so genuinely it’s hilarious. 😂
Alpharad diversifying content, even to movie reviews? I am so for it
Maybe he’ll do an anime review next
i cant wait for him to review space jam 2
@@bidoof367 no way man you won’t believe it
it's a hit
And on a boat, no less

This is the first of many movies where Sandler said "i just want to film on the beach in my Hawaiian shirt."
@Don't Read My Profile Photo cringe
Alpharad is making whatever the hell he wants for this channel and I love it.
How are you gaslighting them??
Do not judge how I got my marriage with Maru. It took a lot.
And too much time in the mines.
One, there’s no gaslighting involved in Stardew. Two, you don’t have to memorize schedules. I never do.
@@thevioletbee5879 Join us in scheduling
That's freaking hilarious😭
That passion in his voice, you know that Jacob has been bottling this up for years
I love the idea of Alpha being so distraught about this movie that he sacrificed his sweet time on a summer day on the water to talk about it.
Jacob's editing is so underrated holy shit that cut at the end contextualizing the film is incredible
So glad Alpharad has reached the point in his villain arc where he is targeting us, the viewers, by making us relive the horror that is Adam Sandler.
Imagine how terrifying this will be as they get older. Lucy wakes up one morning to find she’s in her 50s.
I do appreciate how editing and music can make any film seem like a different genre.
When you break it all down, It is truly a messed up film.
Anything is messed up when you apply logic to it 😂
Love how Alpharad can take a romcom with THE sandler and then turn it into a horror film just by switching perspectives. Just imagine waking up each and every time to people you don't even know or remember in someplace completely different than what you're used to. Then remember that you'll never get used to it. So you live with that fear of ignorance each and every time, while also not knowing if the people around you are dangerous or not.
Every. Single. Day. 👀👀
Has to be really taxing on the heart
New plan, we make them make a romcom together and see how well this oil and water team goes together
technically, the "every single day" thing doesn't matter cause she doesn't remember that it's happening every single day, so it really just happens to her once.
@@RhinoHorn7 That's fair. But thats only like mentally. Physically she's literally experiencing fear and confusion at the very beginning of the day. Like, heart racing, sweating bullets, large increase of stress. If not the horror movie aspect, I'm p sure it's still bad for her health
@@hikariyubashiri860 fair enough
Honestly I do love this video, the fact that you don't make videos about movies makes this so much more interesting.
Adam Sandler is at his best when doing drama movies, so I would honestly love to watch him act in a horror/suspense as the evil protag
Did you know: This was teased a LONG time ago, by the fact that this exact topic was brought up on the podcast "How did we get here" :)
Do you know which episode? I spent a while about a month ago trying to find a specific one after someone told me I should listen to "the heroin episode." (It's the one that starts with scholastic book fairs)
“Risking the life of a walrus to spite your co-worker for stealing your sandwich.”
I can respect that. Especially if it was a really good sandwich.
That sandwich must be great!
it's definitely excusable if the walrus was in on it

OMG I’VE FOUND THE OVERLAP
My dads fiancée has something similar, but not to this extreme. A couple times a year, she'll lose the last year or so of year memory. She journals every night (or most nights) just in case she has a "rewind" She did warn my dad about it after the first month or so of dating, but it's still scary for her, and it can be hard on my dad as well.
“Gaslighting doesn’t exist, your just crazy”
-a very trustworthy man
The fact Jacob hired a boat for a film review, genuinely I’m not surprised but I love this
I refuse to believe that this is an actual movie starring the real Adam Sandler with a plot so strange that it becomes a horror movie.
the fact that its a adam sandler movie makes it more likley
I'm so proud of Alpharad by channeling his inner Adam Sandler by using movies as excuses to take tropical vacations
One thing that I always think of is that one day she had to have that baby. Imagine waking like it’s a normal day and suddenly you are full term and your only memory of that entire day is the fact you need to give birth out of nowhere to a baby if some guy you don’t remember at all… Absolutely horrifying.
She was likely under heavy anesthesia during the birth to prevent this
went from the funny smash bros man, to the funny internet man. great to see you grow so much since then. cant wait for the next video!
One way to make this movie truly a horror film is to do this from amnesia girl's perspective, but starting from the last wake up, and slowly progressing to the first, so you're just as confused at the beginning, and you slowly start piecing together what happened as you approach the "start"
holy shit this would be TERRIFYING.
Basically Memento
The ending with the tape is the romcom equivalent of waking up to a tape in a saw movie
This movie is just a movie that makes me ask myself "dear god, what am I looking at?"
And Alpharad just saved me 2 hours of torture to watch, while on a boat.
POV: You are Alpharad changing the title of the video for the 7th time because the analytics say it scored a 10/10 in video performance
1 minute in: “he poisoned this animal”
Holy SHIT
The fact that they managed to turn scenes from a rom-com into a convincing horror movie trailer absolutely baffles me
The fact that all he really had to do was just describe the movie from the viewpoint of the female lead to make it horror is the real key to it all.

Hi, I'm Tom!
Was this video just so Jacob could write off buying a boat as a “business purchase”?
A natural direction to take for someone praised for his storytelling capability no matter what the topic is. The production quality looks like this movie kept him awake at night so he just immediately had to talk about it lol I like that. Good job
The unhinged spiral of confusion and hatred was hilarious and the fact that he’s on a boat himself is a great touch, I was waiting for his reveal of being stuck there with Adam Sandler lol
The fact that this video was just a summary/review of the movie is wild the story telling is just 100/10 man
I've watched 50 first dates about 50 times and every time I watch it it feels like the first
