Very helpful! Fixed my problem! Especially the part about taking the vent off. My bad actuator behaves exactly the same. When I replaced the new actuator, I did a test without putting it back. The new one behaves as expected. One extra step I took was, before I put the new one back, I connected the wire with the engine off, and I noticed that the system would put the actuator to some initial state. I think this step is crucial.
Yes, its possibly what it is. Take out your glove box and watch the blend door where the cabin filter goes. That one can be noisy when it acts up. It may also need recalibrated, which requires a mechanic that has a scan tool that can jailbreak the jeep security module.
Yes, and if I remember correctly its a bear to get to. Im pretty sure most of the dash has to come apart to reach that one. Also if you decide to do a actuator repair make sure you do not drop the white gear into the console while replacing the actuator. The gear falls off very easy. Ask me how I know.. lol. Lucky me, I have a bore scope camera and a little claw grabber. Some heavy grease on the actuator before you put the gear on will help it stick. The gear does not come with the actuator. It comes with the entire HVAC housing.
I think if memory serves, the JK was still Chrysler. I think fiat got their hands on it right around 2012. Fiat had much more to do with the JL and all the BS electronics now in them. Im pondering selling my JL and getting another TJ

Im having this problem but on the drivers side blowing cold. Is there another actuator on the drivers side somewhere?
