    This what i try to explain to my female friends, who want rich and powerful men for husbands. The more rich and powerful the man the higher the chance he will cheat on you..it is the nature of the beast..Why do you think men want to be rich and powerful? So they can do whatever and whoever they want anytime they want lol.

    • @oliveirantunes
      @oliveirantunes 7 років тому +146

      Lol women know that. Women may prefer guys on top 30% in terms of money, the same way that men want women who are better looking than themselves are, but in the end everybody has to settle for their proportional in terms of attractiveness. Preferences are different than real choice.

      Daniel Jones conducted a study in 2015 where he found that only 10% of women are willing to settle for a men who's described as promiscuous. Likewise, Buss and Schmitt found in 1993 that among the least desirable traits even for a short term partner, being that the men already had a girlfriend or that he behaves in a promiscuous way. It would seem that what is known as "Polygynous thereshold" within evolutionary biology does not hold true for humans, or if it does then it's in a limited way.

    • @bucketfoot5306
      @bucketfoot5306 7 років тому +18

      oliveirantunes, so we are descended from twice as meany females as males, so what that means is that on average the in the human species, one male impregnates two women and half of the males impregnate no women. That sounds like polygyny to me. Promiscuity has nothing to do with polygyny so we can mark that off of your assertion. Human polygny is not simultaneous sex partners, in human polygny the male has sex and a child with a female, and then moves on to the next female. In most cultures with polygnist marrage, the male still financially supports the previous wife. They are techniquely still "married" but the first wife becomes a glorified baby sitter and the new wife is the sex partner until he has a child or moves on to the next one. They only go back to the first wife in a business type of way if they want another child from her.
      So your study is kind of irrelevant to polygny or the subject of this video.
      In our society we have divorce the male has sex with the female and has a child, then moves on to the next one but still financially supports the last one. Its the same idea just in a different form and its been that way since the beginning of humanity. To this day women are twice as likely to have children then a man is, still over halve of all men never get a child or a women.

    I think Jordan Peterson is talking about man getting Power. Power in history. Power attracts women. Pretty much correct.

    • @Noder
      @Noder 7 років тому +16

      Power is one of the aspects, more accurately I think it is respect. I think the woman likes to see a man respected by his peers, so she can be assured he is part of a strong community, or that he can lead or organise one.
      So in today's world, that could be being cool, popular, highly skilled and admired for it. Lower down the heirarchy, it's basically anyone who's not just following others blindly and has the initiative to make important decisions.

    • @bucketfoot5306

      This is not historical, according to the statistics something like 80% of women will have children and only 40% of men will have children. In other words on average two women for one man and no women for most men.
      Darran Ford power means respect and leadership abilities being cool popular and highly skilled is all a type of power and the majority of men do not have that, which is why the majority of men do not get a chance to mate with a women but the majority of women can mate when ever they feel like it.

    • @goatz4u
      @goatz4u 2 роки тому +1

      There are some baseline lifestyle requirements someone might have based on various factors and the more reasonable those expectations are the larger dating pool in which to find a partner that fits them, the more unreasonable the expectations the more likely one will wind up in bad relationships, relationships that go nowhere, or remain single all together. Let's say there's 50 million women who want one of the 100,000 or so male millionaires and Chads half of whom are taken which means out of a thousand random women you'd have to be the .1% of the best of the best but when you look at the top .1% they're from good families, are educated, attractive, driven, family oriented, etc so it's just unreasonable to seek out a partner based solely on wealth alone if you're seeking something more than a "lifestyle" but then again if that's what your seeking you're not actually seeking a relationship but self indulgence and financial security. Happiness is not measured by wealth, though misery can so having reasonable expectations are healthy but self indulgence makes a lifestyle not a relationship. You may be used by those men but it's unlikely they'll want more even if they do will you honestly sure that person will fit you?

      @saganist romantic love is a hormonal cocktail meant to keep us in a love "haze" long enough to reproduce and continue the human race. This is external from the human experience, it's only our animal urges which we have the ability to control and overcome if we choose to. It takes two but I think it's possible to have a "great romantic love" in life.
      Men are biologically wired to spread their seed, supporting the basic biological urges. Women are biologically wired to care for weaker beings, and find resources to support as their base biological urge.
      For every woman who is dating a man for his resources, there is another woman who has followed instinct and mistakenly "mothered" a non- resourceful male partner, only to leave him and find a resourceful partner, thus fulfilling their biological urge with a resourceful male who can provide while she cares for his child.
      The MGTOW comments in JBP vids are largely made by the non-resourceful males who were left by their "mothering" girlfriends and went on to date a resourceful man who could enable them to raise his children in a healthy stable environment.

    I'm gay and move in social circles of gay and straight people alike. This explains why gay male couples of very different education and status seem to be much more common than among straight couples in my experience. I'd always thought it was because gay men had so few potential sexual partners that they simply made the best of it with the men they were able to find. Peterson makes me think that there's more to it than that. Gay men, being men, may really not care about money and status in relationships as much, or in the same way, as women do.

    • @darkzerk7
      @darkzerk7 6 років тому +15

      Men, straight or gay or trans, don't give a shit whether you're rich or poor. Maybe it's a bonus, but it's not a defining factor. If talking exclusively about sex, 99 guys out of 100 (no matter if hetero or gay) will want to bang a hot girl/guy over a very ugly old woman/man who has lots of money. Women's brains don't work that way, and many of them are willing to rather bang a fat, smelly, balding 60 year old than an attractive 25 year old, if the 60 year old has enough money.

    the thing about this research i have difficulty understanding: did they take into account the lack of some persons' desires to have many sexual partners? Because that seems like a pretty important variable to me, and as one that would potentially change the conclusions of the research. Who says everyone wants to sleep with as many people as possible?

    • @freuday

      3 years later but in response to your question, it is true that not everyone aims to sleep with as many people as possible. However, there is no reason to believe that there is any variability in how many sexual partners one wishes to have with an increasing SES. Therefore the general trend is still reliable.

For example, men under 6 foot are 4 times less likely to get married than men above 6 foot, irrespective of their income. Then there's penis size, hair, build, racial preferences. I think attraction is very multifaceted and from my own experience, it's a bit preposterous to say women only care about male utility. But I do agree men judge women primarily on their looks.

On the one hand you could have a man who's arrogant, macho, manipulative, selfish, etc., and on the other hand you could have a desperate, insecure, whining man. Both characters are repulsive to me as potential romantic partners. What really does it for me is a man (or woman, in my case, as I'm bisexual) who's assertive and stands up for what's right at least most of the time, confident but not arrogant with a healthy sense of self worth, brave but not fearless (or foolhardy), kind/compassionate, charming but not manipulative (just funny, clever, etc.), intelligent, etc.

    Questions (legit informative AND logical responces appreciated):
    so 200 years ago given the economic ploit of the average person (BOTH male and female) across the globe was living off $1 per day (ppl were dead beat poor), of course women will want a man of wealth (which he usually inherited) for literally every reason except "love." it was this way for thousands of years and forever UNTIL America liberated women. Sooooo concerning modern living conditions where the average American woman is LITERALLY wealthy compared to the majority of the world AND entertainment constantly entices us with either the disney Cinderella OR Elsa stories... it seems that we literally need to biologically adjust to this entirely new and complex system (that effects EVERY aspect of our being). because obviously the 2 extremes (Cinderella and Elsa) mindsets are not applicable in this current real world. so how do we change our mindsets?
    and what should the goals of our new mindsets be?
    this might appear to be a rediculous situation we're in, but it also presents a new way of "guiding" the gene pool... could it be that this current condition of being offers a better way to exist, have kids and biuld a future... but much of us just dont have any idea how to guide that...

    Different people find different things attractive at different periods. This is really contextual depending a myriad of factors. It is possible for Bohemian musician like myself to sleep with a so-called "high status" women who society would stereotypically associate with a high flying profession such as finance, stockbroking, information technology or law. This talk is also blatantly heteronormative and doesn't account for attraction as experienced by homosexuals, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexual, genderqueer and non-conforming people. As anecdotal as it may sound, social status doesn't factor as much into attraction as personality and social and emotional intelligence.

Lol.. my female friends get furioussssss when I say women should not be put on a pedestal. We are equal but we have different roles in creation. God has order.

    I think he missed one big thing.
    People who will work 90 hrs per week 50 years in a row are probably not the ones with "normal" psychology.
    Hard working and callous people in financial sector are often psychopaths who take it as a game and have the same attitude towards family (to show off) or sex (to score as many beautiful women as possible).
    People who work hard with or without financial gain, meaning it is not the reason in itself, are often on autism spectrum and feel annoyed when they have to share their attention between work/science and family/personal life. They often really enjoy doing one thing and are extremely bothered when something disturbs their work, because getting into or out of an activity takes a lot of effort.
    There are more men than women on the autism spectrum and this can explain why there are so many men working 90h per week or doing science, although almost all women who do that are also autistic (or psycho/sociopaths).
    I am also an autistic female and couldn't imagine having a family, children or even sex. Having to share my room or bed with other people or working in an open space office is absolute hell for me. Autism and asexuality are linked, so it is probably true that many hard working people are actually not motivated by having more sexual partners.

      I completely disagree. (Hyper)industrious people have this unexplainable urge to spend every second of their time working towards a specific goal, usually because they are striving for success. Success in this case can mean many things, not just financial success. Elon Musk, for example, isn't motivated to work for money (since he already has billions of it). So the question is, why does he continue working 90 hour work weeks? Even after he has admitted it hurts him? The world will never know...

    I see alot of comments misconstruing what's being said.The criteria
    given to the women in the study was laid out in the beginning. It was
    very plain. It said "Possession of resources", any other terms are
    extrapolations the individual. "There are many types of success" is not
    even a point in the debate or is it debatable but,if that's not being
    questioned,it's pointless to include it because it changes the focus of the
    the exercise. The second part I see no one talking about "in here so far"
    which deserves and should be more scrutiny, Bluntly put,women like
    whores of men. There many dynamics outside of the topic that are
    relevant too. Add casual sex or a really screwed up society and the
    whole model can break down.

    There are many rewards to being industrious - money, fame, freedom, satisfaction of providing both for family and society, satisfaction of being an innovator or somehow important. The men way out on the Pareto distribution probably just see women as another reward (a big one but not the only one) and are not necessarily compelled by the need to impress, and therefore get, a lot of woman.

      Well it's also about evolution. Some people have ancestors that prioritized wealth highly and had succesfull offspring. Some people have ancestors that prioritized looks highly and had succesfull offspring. This will in some way also determine the preferences of those living today.
      Also people seem to overrate wealth. Remember what happened in Russia with the tzar and his family. That's right everyone was put in the grave children as well.
      This thing happened all the time. Whenever a kingdom lost to another kingdom the former king and all of his family was searched for and removed from life.
      Generelly speaking history has been filed with how temporary wealth is.

    • @christopher9152
      @christopher9152 7 років тому +27

      Pitmirk You're welcome. I'm a uni prof myself and only left my previous post because your original post pretty clearly implied an expectation of status in general, and of the kind that might pull women in particular, attaching to your occupation (the fact that universities have largely become propaganda and diploma mills not worthy of de facto societal respect is a significant reality to consider, but it's not one that consciously and directly affects the values and mating choices of most young women). Anyway, I have had several opportunities to hook up with significantly younger, attractive undergrads on campus that I, pre-marriage, on selective occasions (discretion is required in these pc times) availed myself of, though never with girls that were presently in my classes...but I think it had little to do with status as a prof per se, as I could and did sometimes engage in flings or hookups with women of the same age that I had met in bars, cafes, etc. Occupation, unless you're a rock star or a pro athlete (or a rapper for the two digit iq, grew up without a dad set), matters little to women who aren't thinking yet of settling down. The more unimaginable hitting the wall appears to them (up to 25 yo or so these days), the less a man's ability to provide resources matters, and the more his personality, confidence, and looks take center stage. Yes, maybe this should be obvious, too, but it clearly is not to many of the guys commenting on this page

    Jordan Peterson hasn't considered how what we consider to be beautiful has changed a lot throughout history. The desirable body used to be a man's... now women's bodies are all over the media. It used to be strong noses, now it's small. Sometimes it's small breasts and sometime's it's big breasts. It changes. Thin eyebrows, thick eyebrows, etc. Tall, short. Fat or curvy vs. thin. It's not locked into genetics, it's not due to evolution. I would say it's social and cultural.

    • @cyber963
      @cyber963 6 років тому +3

      I would have to disagree with you there and say what is instinctually considered beautiful isnt all that subjective.There are things like a low WHR, softer facial features, fat in the right places, youth etc that are considered beautiful because they are clear indicators of fertility.At the end of the day the more fertile you look the beautiful you are considered.Even though beauty in the media changes it always advocates these things that signal fertility.
      I have to admit I think society can play a role in our perception of beauty to an extent.High status men overlook what they find attractive instinctually and go for what society finds attractive.Back in the 90s a high status guy would probably go for a skinny girl even if he prefered curvy.This is because the more his arm candy looks like society's version of beautiful the more clearly he can signal his socio-economic status to other males.I think this is why you see the high status men with models.Of course models have the top genes so they instinctually find them attractive but I dont always think thats why they are together.Even if he messes with the chicks who he founds more attrative (based on biology e.g genes are a better fit)the societally beautiful one always becomes the trophy wife/girlfriend ... a manifestation of his status.So yes society plays an important role.
      But it certainly isn't the most important factor and beauty is not subjective.
      The beautiful have top genes in the first place to be considered beautiful by society, beauty ( in the sense that it is fundamentally primal) doesn't change.

  • @konstanZX2
    @konstanZX2 6 років тому +1

    I think everyone is different, choices made by them depends on their behaviour, and behaviour dependes of the situation(circumstances in life) . In my opinion theres no point in answering the why question, people personally will tell you why they married someone, you cant classify people with absurd tests... Sad but thats what I think, thats why I dont think psychology is actually scientific, its scientific in some parts like conductism for example, but in the rest it is just like a holy bible for living. Really clumping up different people into one big mountain isnt gonna get you to the moon, but only make them die, like all the other variables die inside them. You might say:"yea but those variables do not affect" everything affects, just because you dont take it into consideration doesnt mean that the person youre evaluating didnt take that into account.
