I like the fact that Mark Kermode did seem to be genuinely pleased to have derived pleasure from a Guy Ritchie film! Could the infamous sea have parted? Personally I can see where Mark is coming from on some points. I liked Lock Stock and Snatch and thought they were interestingly done and amusing. Sure, its all geezers and guns, but I first watched it as almost a caricature of that world, and it was funny, it was only when I realised Ritchie was serious about it that I began to worry.
Well it's like with James Bond; nobody wanted to see a grittier version after the Pierce Brosnan era, but it took Daniel Craig and Casino Royale to prove them wrong. What I like about the clip is their timing. Most comedies nowadays are totally lacking in this department. The snappiness of their relationship is on display beautifully there; you really get a sense of interplay. Maybe because Law and Downey really know what they're doing unlike the geezers Ritchie normally works with.
The woman is Irene Adler... the only woman Holmes has ever admired. And the only woman who ever got the better of him. See "Scandal in Bohemia" So - not a thrown-in character put in there as a sop to the American audience.
There is admiration between the two, but certainly no question of love, because it wouldn't work, and it doesn't here. She is used here purely as a sop to American audiences, and it doesn't work.
Wow, I thought I was listening to a review of the second Sherlock Holmes movie. I didn't realize it was a review of the first one until the last minute. They're really similar.
Also as the white black guy in Tropic Thunder playing off the younger guy and the actual black guy. (Because Ben Stiller and Jack Black's characters were insane as well).
I'm so glad he liked it cos I thought "I liked this movie, but Mark is gonna hate it, and then I feel annoyed the next time I watch it". But low and behold, he likes it, too!
The film’s issues are the direction & its length, however the film’s well acted, stylish, well scored & the set pieces seem realistic. (74%) (3.5/5 stars) (positive)
@skinwalkerxxx True, but to me, Downey is only ever as good as his straight men/women. He needs solid actors to be his anchor while he goes crazy (i.e. Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gwyneth in Iron Man, Jude Law in this.)
WTF does Irene Adler being in the movie have to do with appeasing Americans? She's been in pretty much every Sherlock Holmes production ever made and is entertaining because Holmes rarely meets anyone that can fluster him. She plays a central part in the movie and was portrayed beautifully by McAdams.
@@Onmysheet I was being a dick and now you're being nice. Both those directors are great though. Although sometimes Fellini goes straight over my head with his intentions. I just thought it was funny you'd compare guy Ritchie to either of those two in the first place
'It's the least Guy Ritchie Guy Ritche movie Guy Ritchie has ever made.'
Sherlock and Watson in that movie sound like Kermode and Mayo
I heard this live... I almost crashed the car I was so shocked.
I'd pay to watch a film about the geezerish antics of Jimmy the Snout
jimmy the snout - lol - hahaha - love kermode

they are one of the very few good shows on any BBC radio or TV. They need to stay together

Wow a Guy Ritchie movie that Mark likes.
This is a spot on review. Enjoyable film.
Not spot on. This film is amazing and mark is wrong to criticize it like this.
This was a fun reinvention of the Holmes scene. Good film!
Both Sherlock Holmes films are brilliant and I won’t hear another word said about it.
yep! mark is wrong here, these guy richie holmes movies are incredible and mark is being ignorant.
I would like to hear his view on the BBC Sherlock: A Study In Pink.
I liked lock stock and Snatch and liked this movie. It was really fun.
Your mum liked my cock
amazing, i might have to watch this one at some point then
***** I'm sold with the London Bridge showdown, gotta suggest this for my next movie night with the girlf
"A Cameron movie that you liked"
Wait, surely Avatar isn't the first? If he didn't like Aliens or Terminator 2 I'd be very surprised.

It's more entertaining when he doesn't like a movie.
But he's clearly wrong here and is not smart. These new holmes movies are amazing!
@@Gadget-Walkmen He praised the movies. What are you talking about?
@@KydzPlays which ones? The new Sherlock Holmes movies? He’s not a fan of them as he said.
@@Gadget-Walkmen He said he enjoyed this one.
@@KydzPlays really? Because the next, the best one, he said he didn’t which is unfortunate.
No it's still going. Mayo is leaving his usual daytime slot for Radio 1 but he's still coming back to 5 Live every Friday at 3 with Kermode.
I stand corrected.
I'm so glad he liked it cos I thought "I liked this movie, but Mark is gonna hate it, and then I feel annoyed the next time I watch it". But low and behold, he likes it, too!
Is the Kermode/Mayo show coming to an end?

BOOOM, i love this guy
He's moving to Radio 2.
If you hate Mark Kermode so much, why are you always watching his reviews?
to be made violently angry
"I'm actually warming to the characters in a Guy Ritchie film!"
No he's moving to Radio 1 for the Breakfast show.
sherlock holmes was an amazing movie!
Yeah, I admit I enjoy Lock Stock and Snatch, but I haven't liked anything since then. But if Kermode likes it then it couldn't be that bad.
@skinwalkerxxx We'll agree to disagree. I thought Jude Law was very funny and held the film together.
Jimmy the Snout! LOL

radio1? he's on 1?
Snatch is still one of my top 100 of all time
Jimmy the Snout! Mumbles!
Fucking kermode, guy Richie is a genius
i was surprised at how much i enjoyed the film
jimmy the snout hahaha
@TulseLuper yes i thought Law was very good
Irene Adler is Sherlocks love interest even in the books.
Kermode liked Howard the Duck. That is all.
Are you serious? Evidence?
@Minic15 så soft
He's ok but he's no Christopher Nolan or David Fincher.
They're alright but they're no Welles or Fellini.
@@michaelhall5429 I'm a late bloomer for Fellini. Seen some films of his on MUBI, and liked them, La Dolce Vita being the most.

@@michaelhall5429 Yeah. Comparing Guy Ritchie to any of those directors was ridiculous. What was I thinking then? lol
@@Onmysheet haha at least it's not as mindless as replying to a seven year old comment.
Holmes and Watson is the gayest movie couple ever. Even brokeback mountain has to take a backseat to this film
I think Jimmy the Snout and Mumbles were in the Blue Carbuncle, so their absence makes sense.
