- Hey guys, first of all huge shoutout to Quinton Alltop (instagram @ghostshaft) who did an amazing job with the FX work for this video!
This cover is something I wanted to do for a very long time now and I'm really happy about it now that it's finally done. Meshuggah is one of my all time favorite bands, I think in terms of modern metal they are probably my number one, so doing a cover version of one of their songs is just my way of trying to show how much I appreciate these dudes.
Equipment I used:
I started working this cover out by programming the drums using the Get Good Drums "Invasion" Kit, which sounds absolutely phenomenal but from the start it was very hard for me to reproduce the sound of the original song, so I tried for another approach and just went with the sounds I liked most but don't necessarily sound like the original.
The bass was programmed with a plugin called Loki Bass, which is a really nice piece of software as well, specially if you don't have an actual Bass yourself (like me haha).
Guitars used: Ibanez RGIR28FE, Charvel Promod DK24
The guitars were recorded with a Line6 Helix LT straight into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

This is going to sound crazy I’m well aware, but your ability to cover that guitar solo is in my opinion more impressive than the original being written. When you write something, you know how to play it-nuances and all-so it’s much easier to grasp. Having no position of being the actual writer and learning to play something as complex as this verbatim speaks to the truly incredible ear for detail that you have.
That said, let no one be confused-Meshuggah is simply the most innovative metal band to ever exist.

This solo was by far the hardest part about this song, I actually wanted to give up at one point and do my own solo, but somehow I got through it anyways haha. Also I have to admit that I used a really good tab for the solo that I found online, if I would have tried to learn it by ear it would have took me one more year to actually finish this thing lol.

Thanks a lot! After programming all the drums and the bass it didn't take me long to actually learn the riffs (maybe like 3 or 4 hours over the course of 2 days), because I already knew all the rhythms. Different story for the solo though, took me over a week to get that down and it's still not 100% as Fredrik plays it...

thank you! i used a line 6 hx stomp. the amp model i used was a revv red channel with a custom mesa boogie IR. i can send you the patch if you use a helix :)
