As a Norden 901 Expedition owner. I really don't need 100 more CC's. What I do need is a better air box, better cooling, and better fuel mapping. Simpler menu and built in Android auto.
As a former KTM 950 & 990 Adventure owner (both of which I loved) it's great to see KTM taking styling cue's from these and it's current 450 Dakar bike , I have never gelled with the current insect like front end on recent KTM 's which is why I didn't trade my 990 Adventure in for a 1090/1190/1290 Adventure, if the new 990 Adventure looks anything like the spy shots then I may well be heading down to my nearest KTM dealer in 2025.
Don't! I recently bought my second 990 (low mileage) because the new bikes have nothing on the old 990 (unless you are in love with electronics - which I'm not). Those old bikes were made in Austria. This new crop is a mix of India, China and a little bit of Austria but still with a high premium price. No thanks! I'd rather go the Africa Twin way if I was to pay for a modern bike with electronics (I don't use).
@KTM you need to sit up and take notice of the tidal wave developing re: dissatisfaction from the 790 and 890 owners, they're your target market for this new bike and I for one will not even look at the 990 or another KTM, I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone. The way in which you've chosen to address the cam failures is despicable - silence and blaming owners to try shirk responsibility for the failures, other than your failed manufacturing processes, does nothing good for your brand reputation.
Since these are prototype bikes, the lights are temporary, and rarely make it to the final design. The visual cues pay homage to the original 990, and not the current rally bikes.
The comments about the looks of this and previous KTM Adv bikes are hilarious. I buy a bike to RIDE it. Not sit at the coffee shop and look at it. My 2019 790 is gorgeous behind the handle bars - where it matters.
there are 2 things they need to do before I consider any KTM. 1. Get rid of that insect looking headlight 2. Get rid of the chocolate cams Looks like we are halfway there.
Think having a massive "saddle bag" gas tank is all the rage now. Might see a production diesel engine soon actually so would hold off unless and until that. Battery electrics continue to become crazy moar capable and fun in the meantime as expected. Long $hmc Honda Motor Corporation strong buy.
Hopefully they come with replacement cam's and heads so we can replace them when doing our oil changes, excited! Loving my 790 and zero resale value, thanks KTM.
I don't know what they got against the 690? The enduro version has been out for 15+ years now. You would think they would have slapped a fairing and a proper tank on it by now to give us a successor to the 640 Adventure?
@@remarkableflooty7476 enduro or adventure, in the case of the 690 and older LC4 640s were mostly a marketing thing. Nobody in his right mind would take the 690 enduro for actual enduro. The EXC range is the proper enduro range.
They will also launch a 690 Adventure, using a new twin cylinder engine and it will be made in India, whereas the 990 will be manufactured in Austria. This is the bike you're searching for.
First off I have loved all of the KTM dirtbikes I owned as they were well built and very reliable, but I bought a brand new Duke 790 (which is the same basic Chinese motor) and it was an absolute POS…..I mean trash!
No separate rear light, looks like it’s integrated into the indicators. Disappointed that the BMW disease has infected KTM. Most of these updates do not look like a better bike will result. Still fugly, too.
Hopefully they revised the camshafts on this 990. KTM still has quite a bit of explaining to do.
Are the cams still made from cheese?
Yes, Austrian cheese
Id say Chinese cheese since that's where they're getting their parts from. @@chrishall9625
Why fix issues when every couple of years you can just increase displacement by 100cc and hope they will just vanish…😝😝
Any idea why people would rather bellyache than enjoy motorcycles?

They are fixing them in Australia. No questions asked - 3 years out of warranty.

I agree, it is more 990 Adventure.
yes to that headlight
if they make the NEW ktm 990 adventure reliable,
i will sell my T7 for it !!
Cheers from Greece !!
Does the oil lubricate the engine properly?
Looks good , like the original 990 Adventure which was a great bike. Hopefully they work in reliability as well.

Great review, as always! Thanks, dude.
They look like the old 950. Im hoping they go that direction.
Glad they’ve changed the looks. The previous one was so ugly it would stop me even trying it, now I’d give one a shot.
Vertical displays leave little to no room for navigation devices, which makes no sense on an adventure bike.
Probably it will come with a Navigation setup from the factory, like on the new MT09...🤔

@@abymathew295 which is probably fine if you stay on road.
Great video ❤😊
More like it
ktm must seal engine gaskets and do work for camshafts, and no need new faulty bikes
Ready to replace your cams!
It would be a shame if the fuel capacity is less, and if the weight is held higher. I love the low CoG that the 890 has.
Win for the headlight . . .vertical display bad design . . . Real question is how much of a weight gain?
It seems that adventure bike engine displacement increases are the equivalent of the automotive domain's "improved chassis rigidity". Give it a rest.
As soon as the WEF and EPA and CARB and others stop increasing their ridiculous unscientific propaganda nonsense.
Dual fuel cap like the Tenere World raid?
smt 990 please!
Yes please, my 2011 990 SMT is getting a bit long in the tooth.
Why do they opt for parallel twins now the old 990 was a Vtwin so the new one should be aswell
990 looks better than the new 1390.
Development is not a moving target if you change moniker from ADV to DS.

I want a 990 GT !!
What the hell is that front design?
Is there any middleweight ADV left in KTM?😂 because all of them are increased to 1000cc range. The lowest one is 390 adv for pros.
Hopefully they will retain that headlight rather than putting that horrific Alien type Headlight on it..🤕🤕🤕🤕
I hope they have a Matt black option like in the spy shots. Would be a nice change from the garish orange
Looks more like a 990 SMT to me. Also that swingarm is way different, and not as good looking.
That swingarm is an abomination.
Looks more like the OG990 and dare I say it the Tenere 700, should upset a few KTM aficionados!
Camshafts made of jello yes I have one
Sorry, but it is not worthy of the 990 name. They need to call it something else!
👏👏👏
990 ... for what? It would have been better to close the gap between 390 and 890!

@@jakeviolet2195 With all due respect, the days of the 690 are numbered and besides, an enduro is a different category than the adventure models.

Best middle weight adv bike? LOL not isn't, far from it.
Ugly A.F. ! Still crap quality ?
‘Adventure’ bikes are so depressing…

is it just me or is this another boring super ugly ADV bike?
