For me personally. I don’t think it’s a bad thing if videos involving builds are kinda of long. Though if you want to try and be short. Maybe do like you mentioned and just cover what in your opinion are the 3 best classes for X character. Then from there like team combinations and any stand out weapons.
I think if for each character you give a brief description of how they work with each class but go in depth on their top 3 is probably a good middle ground between the two, although I'd prefer a pretty lwngthy build video with chapters.
I think your on the right track i went through the video and the core info for the build you couldve summarized within like 15 ish min. I dont mind the longer explanations but i know the ole youtube algarithyms want shorter videos to get more views usually .. prob cuz everyone has adhd nowadays

Oh okay, so if I want to be do big damage I can make said character into THIS class with X, Y, Z skill and recommended equipment. The game isn't THAT difficult and I'm sure I could wiki all the info do spreadsheets but I find something therapeutic about listening to videos about stuff. Also the game makes me feel overwhelmed sometimes and I just enjoy the beautiful music and the grinding. Need someone to do the character planning (for optimal results) for me. Or at least a few options that would make the character preform better. Not expecting perfection.
Early in the game, around level 10-15, I used the Bewildering Grace dance and got JP x100. This resulted in me maxing out the starting jobs of all 4 of my first characters after a single combat. I will always love Agnea for that early boost she gave me.
That can happen?! I heard someone say that they kept getting negative effects from it so I’ve avoided using it. I’m in the early game so that’d be a huge come up. It’s definitely worth a try.
Spoiler for final chapter ex abilities for Castti and Agnea Castti and Agnea make the ultimate support duo with their ex abilities and native jobs abilities. Agnea can cast Sealticge's Seduction on Castti, Castti can then cast a max boost Remedy which will give your whole team 9 buffs Afterwards Agnea can use song of hope to keep all of those buffs active Further more every time Agnea uses Song of Hope all of those buffs increasing duration count as Agnea granting additional buffs for the dancer passive which restores latent power when the user gives out buffs. That passive skill scales with how many buffs are applied, so Agnea can effectively give 9 buffs which can cause this skill to restore a quarter of the latent gauge each time Song of Hope is used. Song of Hope will not increase the duration of Sidestep, Divine skills (bp boost is an exception for some reason), Counter attack and reflective veil.
As for agnea's cleric class. I feel like she's underappreciated. Her ability to give my whole team 9 turns of both physical defense and elemental defense boosts was sometimes an absolutely crucial part of my strategy to win boss fights. And yes her healing output wasn't always insane but somtimes she needed to be the healing backup for my hunter temenos. That might sound crazy but sometimes he was tasked with too much by trying to 1. Heal the team 2. nullify positive status effects on the enemy and 3. using his latent power to break enemies with precise shot. In cases where he needed to do all of these things, my cleric agnea was there to make that party withstand the attakcs, heal em AND sometimes even give temenos Aelfric's blessing. That way she'd have more room to damage boost (and be a BP battery with her dance partner) to really do it all for my DPS's.
Actually, Agnea's latent power does work on random targetting abilities, like with warrior and armsmaster. I even used her for that once in the early-mid game when I needed to break a group of enemies that were all weak to sword
In Octo 1 I basically farmed exp and money with Bewildering Grace. I would get a group of enemies down to 1 and just max cast Bewildering, and even tho the odds were not great - when you hit the x100 exp or x10 jp (what ever it was) it seemed to blast past all of the fails. (Personally I am a gambler by nature and live in Vegas off and on)... I find that in Octo 2 they made the odds of hitting that x100 exp totally astronomical so I found other conventional ways of farming. But I do feel like the Dancer class in Octo 2 is not the greatest - however the story is still charming af.
Really identified with your thoughts on this. Absolutely loved the game. Just finished the final boss clocking 91 hours, having loved every minute! Seen a few videos out there saying it was grindy and was wondering wtf they were on about because until the final boss, I had absolutely no issues. Similarly to you, I very quickly found myself overlevelled and blasting through the story without any grind. Just some exploration here and there but no attempt to level up. The way I played, I completed all the chapters of one team then played the other characters together, so like an 'a' and 'b' team. Even when I got to my b teams stories, and was actually underlevelled I still blasted through pretty easily! Not even using top end gear which would've trivialised it further! That said, absolutely incredible game and one of my all time favorites. Just wish I had a bit more of a challenge throughout
140 hours still haven't completed the main stories, my favorite characters are in the 80's for levels tho. I want to be strong as an ox when I face him.
I personally think the inventor divine ability is only really good for long winded fights where you use every ability from the class. youd be in a situation where everything needs repairing, and it would take like 5 or 6 turns to start reparing it all. insead, the divine ability allows you to start on all that in 1 turn. it's worth noting that once you start repairing an ability, you dont need to spend an action for it every turn. the turn counter will decrease passively once you get it started, meaning you can still do other things w agnea while (for example) arkhar's coil is repairing for 7 turns

The turn reducing effect that hastening hammer gives only activates once an invention is in the process of being repaired too, so the intended rotation is: use all/most skills except hammer, use divine skill, use hastening hammer, rinse repeat Edit: the game give an indication about skills you've already started building. The skill will say "turns left" for things youve started repairing instead of just "turns" for things that haven't started to get repaired
its funny how much theif was nerfed in this one compared to the frist one in the first octopath with steal hp and steal sp it was so op. worked well with alot of classes jsut for those 2 moves
Sort of a niche setup I saw earlier on reddit that I like is Dancer/Merchant, where you use all 3 of the wind magic boosting weapons. Even with low elemental attack investment, it can hit the first damage cap easily. I havent reached endgame yet, so I dont know if it drops off or not, but with the sorcerer triple cast divine skill it feels pretty solid. Inventor seems risky if you cant finish combat in only a few turns, or rather it seems problematic if you get to a point where you get to her turn and theres just nothing particularly useful to do in that moment since all of your tools are on cooldown... but then again it would depend on how hard it the endgame is.
I use her as a sort of filler buff if ever Im preparing for a big hitter. She's set to the hp + sp heal dance partner, topping up P.Atk and E.Atk if needed. Sealteacge's on Temenos, and he can use Prayer of Plenty to the whole team. Invigorate and Inspire + Conjurer has been really good in my experience. Just jacking everyone's latent power up as you buff the entire party is pretty schweet.
The good ability from Dancer is Ruinous Kick. It is surprisingly powerful on her and it is a guarantee shield breaker if all else fails. Windy Refrain is a pretty amazing skill.
Having her as a scholar is pretty good in the early game, especially if you're doing an all west build. Out of the 4, she has the best elemental attack, and you can use her ability to analyze everybody. Base stats matter much less in the late game where gear counts for most of it.
Elemental Barrage works with Agnea's Latent Power, just an FYI. It makes it so all enemies get hit by the bolts. I mean, it's still no reason to go for anything but Inventor with Agnea most of the time, but the option is there if you want it.
accessories I would recommend on her would be the calming stone, it prevents terror, which make her unable to boost. you absolutely dont want her unable to boost especially if she needs to use arkors coil. the second one is articulate stone for the same reason. need her to use abilities and being unable to be silenced is huge.
I’m still testing builds out myself, but I have been having fun with having Agnea as a Conjurer. And I gave her the act first support ability so she can set up elemental magic attacks for the whole team. She can be very speedy and is great for support. And I usually use Stimulate to bring another unit to the forefront to get a first strike on and break shields with the magic attuned effects.
The problem I have with Dancer in general is that the food you make out of Ochette capturing do actually a genearlly better job than any of the Dancer abilities and you can do it with any character.
Using dancer class as secondary job is great choice for play though as well. By combining Sealticge's Seduction(dancer class) + Enervating Slash(warrior class) + Life in the Shadow(support skill from thief class) that you can one shot most of random enemies. But I prefer using Hikari, since he has highest physical attack power in the game and he will receive an additional position effect from the AOE buff. I don't understand why I've seen so much Agnea buffer slander. I loved the dancer in Octopath 1 so I was quick to jump to Agnea in Octo 2. Using her to make Osvald omega cracked with the Peacock Dance and having her on Cleric giving everyone Elem + Phys defense 24/7. I value buffers a lot in these games and it's crazy how much people ignore them.
Agnea priest + castti in the party was a winner. I still think partitio is the strongest single character. Partitio thief was a monster big dps + support
In octopath 1 it for sure effected the possible outcomes so I assume it works the same in this one. It does effect the amount of times it triggers but it also has certain effects locked behind certain BP levels
Cassti will be soon but probably closer to tuesday. I still need to play with her in game a bit more as mine is only level 20 compared to my other level 70 characters
Agnea also seems to be the main protagonist of the game and she is a fitting starting character both gameplay and story wise. Agnea does make a great cleric in the early game. Prayer of the Flame makes one of Hikari's skills more powerful.
I haven't gotten to the 3rd chapter of anyone yet, but Osvald and Hikari feel like the most main characters of them all, tbh. But it does feel like they all have similar weight, except Agnea, of course.

I've been playing around with Sealticge Seduction + Reflective Barrier paired with Seal of Diffusion + Vengeful Blade. It's funny. I beat Ochette's final story boss with this build. Had Casti in the party for bp battery and heals. I would use Sealticge Seduction on Casti as well to get full boosted Replenish Health on all for 9 turns EDIT: I had Ochette equipped with the dancer secondary job for this build and she was the only one that could not counter with vengeful blade The reason is her provoke does not scale with her stats so she could still benefit from strong damage from provoke while providing Sealticge Seduction to Hakiri (Arcanist) and Casti (Arms Master)
Best team by far casti hikari ochette and throne Casti with one step ahead from iventor and full latent power from merchant Full latent power on every other character You start the fight with all characters max bp attack up and latent power available it’s ridiculous strong and takes every challenge You make 50000-60000 damage turn one no break
I've been theory crafting and came to virtually the same conclusion. The only substitutions I could think would be arcanist partitio for sidestep/rest (basically runelord), or maybe agnea with a really good summon for support. Both those seem more situational though. Real talk though i saw hikari's learned skill tree and that ochette's summoned monsters have 0 limits now and I just went "well shit there's 2 of the best characters hands down". The only character I've found to be "weak" is temenos and even then he isn't bad, he's just a lot more situational. Osvald is also disgusting for elemental damage but in all honesty I usually just outfit agnea with scholar anyways and her support potential is crazy (+ her latent power with elemental barrage/stroke of genius is fucking nuts).
The full latent power support skill isn't that good for boss fights since you can just farm it to full normally before a fight and use a different passive but it's wonderful for exploration
@@Fidel_Cashflow from what i gather on reading the support skill, give castti the "one step forward" skill from the inventor so she moves first when the battle starts, concoct a potion with the 2 BP she has that has pom leaves and diffusing serum (probably a strengthening serum to double the effect i think), and presto you've basically got full BP.
@@darcidious99100% replace throne with arcanist particio and then I would agree it is the best overall team. The versatility of the team is just too good. Arcanist particio when set up properly can render the team invincible with team-wide side step and magic reflection. Castti's concoct can keep the team's bp up or do more if necessary, Ochette with the variety of beasts she can get can be catered to any situation (such as teamwide buffs, or all enemy debuffs) and she can bring the pain, Hikari is similar to ochette in that sense though slightly less versatile. None of the remaining 4 characters uses/niches are powerful enough to replace the aforementioned four unless you require magic damage.
When I was building up between chapter 3 + chapter 4 for my team at the time (Hikari, Throné, Osvald & Temenos) I had Temenos as a dancer 2nd class and I met a cait + 2 other enemies. I used a soul orb, decided to defence a couple rounds and just try my luck at a 4x Bewildering. First try I got the 100x exp and suddently my team was lvl around base 64, went up around 20 levels++ on everyone LMAO Needless to say I had an easy mode going into the story finales, which was kinda boring, but I still gotta do Ochette/Agnea/Castti/Partitio for the next set of story so I still might have to play brains rather than brawns.
Sealticge's is really good, throw that on Castti and give hp regen or immune to debuffs to everyone. I don't see inventor being that useful in how I've been playing since you have everything in the kit from other classes to some extent (my team is Castti/Hikari/Partitio/Agnea) Also I use stimulate very rarely but it has a place, you use it on a single ally in order to setup during a nuke phase. example let's say next turn you want to nuke a boss but your Partitio is first turn and Hikari with 5 boosts going 2nd turn, you can use Stimulate to make Hikari go in front of Partitio so you can use his full boost latent power(double hit+extra action) then donate bp after with partitio. Also works if you need to recast a buff/debuff during the break turn before your hard hitter attacks.
Ive not had debuffs or hp regen be a problem in my playthough at all so far. Inventor is busted powerful imo. Full party heal revive and BP + critical scope making all damage crits + the ability to force your party to go first is just so powerful I dont think agnea has nearly as strong of a second class
@@purplatypus7405 Of course it's to each their own, the game isn't so hard to play one way it's great that there are many playstyles of people. typically though I have never needed to heal hp with hp regen buff on and if I do which is extremely rare I just use Partitio(arcanist) rest for all. I've faced a few bosses(albeit not super strong) that lock boosting and/or confuse and many that reduce damage/def shread but definitely niche use. I personally think Agnea's EX skill that pushes everyone to act before enemies for 0bp/0latent power is better than the wasting the use of latent power on inventor skill to target all. Castti Latent power giving everyone 4 BP with Phys atk buff or replenish sp at night a 4bp+5turn sp regen buff is equally as good if not better than the inventors version(you can also do this without latent power too). The crit scope is good but you can use Take aim with a hunter to have a weaker version of it. to me the only question is do you want crit scope at the cost of more options because every other skill has a better alternative imo. But I do agree that Agnea's 2nd class options aren't that strong in general. I use her as a cleric for the def buff+Divine skill which I use on partitio then make it permant with the Arcanist Divine skill so ever turn he can bp boost twice or heal sp or break. Also I have fought 1 boss that has reduce to 1hp aoe with 3multiple attacks which I used the 90% shield damage thing to block but extremely niche and was just for fun, could have beat without.
I like to use the dancer job. First you use support skill to make merchant go first. Donate BP to Dancer, then you use divine skill to target all on Castti. Use merchant again, spend money to debuff enemy. Then use Drastic measures full charge. Boom, 9999 damage and instakills almost every random encounter excluding bosses.
Don't worry about "messing up" characters. They keep getting stronger as the game goes on. The only thing that is not easy to replace are the nuts you get for stats but they are pretty low impact in the grand scheme of things

Arkar's Coil on Agnea just instantly reverses any tough situation. Having Partitio as my main means I can just BP battery for her anytime I need, too.
I turned my Agnae into a dark mage danzer and her wind damage is crazy high

Dancer Divine is very good for some the OP skills like Hikari's Learned Skills, especially for Divine Protection.

I currently run the guitarist as her dance partner, been getting a flat 40 sp effectively restoring sp and making any dance basically free

And I usually use Stimulate to bring another unit to the forefront to get a first strike on and break shields with the magic attuned effects.
The problem I have with Dancer in general is that the food you make out of Ochette capturing do actually a genearlly better job than any of the Dancer abilities and you can do it with any character.
Using dancer class as secondary job is great choice for play though as well. By combining Sealticge's Seduction(dancer class) + Enervating Slash(warrior class) + Life in the Shadow(support skill from thief class) that you can one shot most of random enemies.

You can also set warrior class as secondary job to dancer for doing same combo. But I prefer using Hikari, since he has highest physical attack power in the game and he will receive an additional position effect from the AOE buff.
Note: don’t forget to use A Step Ahead (support skill from inventor class)
I don't understand why I've seen so much Agnea buffer slander. I loved the dancer in Octopath 1 so I was quick to jump to Agnea in Octo 2. Using her to make Osvald omega cracked with the Peacock Dance and having her on Cleric giving everyone Elem + Phys defense 24/7. I value buffers a lot in these games and it's crazy how much people ignore them.
Agnea priest + castti in the party was a winner.
I still think partitio is the strongest single character. Partitio thief was a monster big dps + support
Maybe just a tad shorter but I enjoy the longer videos. I think you go into enough detail (specific examples) to justify the length.

The more BP you put into bewildering grace means the more times it’s cast. To the best of my knowledge it doesn’t alter the luck of the draw.
In octopath 1 it for sure effected the possible outcomes so I assume it works the same in this one. It does effect the amount of times it triggers but it also has certain effects locked behind certain BP levels
You cannot get 100xJP and other best outcomes for example if you don't use max BP.

Agnea also seems to be the main protagonist of the game and she is a fitting starting character both gameplay and story wise.
Agnea does make a great cleric in the early game. Prayer of the Flame makes one of Hikari's skills more powerful.
I feel her story has the least to do with the main story than any other character
I haven't gotten to the 3rd chapter of anyone yet, but Osvald and Hikari feel like the most main characters of them all, tbh. But it does feel like they all have similar weight, except Agnea, of course.

I've been playing around with Sealticge Seduction + Reflective Barrier paired with Seal of Diffusion + Vengeful Blade. It's funny. I beat Ochette's final story boss with this build. Had Casti in the party for bp battery and heals. I would use Sealticge Seduction on Casti as well to get full boosted Replenish Health on all for 9 turns
EDIT: I had Ochette equipped with the dancer secondary job for this build and she was the only one that could not counter with vengeful blade
The reason is her provoke does not scale with her stats so she could still benefit from strong damage from provoke while providing Sealticge Seduction to Hakiri (Arcanist) and Casti (Arms Master)

I've been theory crafting and came to virtually the same conclusion. The only substitutions I could think would be arcanist partitio for sidestep/rest (basically runelord), or maybe agnea with a really good summon for support. Both those seem more situational though.
Real talk though i saw hikari's learned skill tree and that ochette's summoned monsters have 0 limits now and I just went "well shit there's 2 of the best characters hands down". The only character I've found to be "weak" is temenos and even then he isn't bad, he's just a lot more situational. Osvald is also disgusting for elemental damage but in all honesty I usually just outfit agnea with scholar anyways and her support potential is crazy (+ her latent power with elemental barrage/stroke of genius is fucking nuts).
how are you starting the battle with max bp? i have boost-start on everyone from the merchant job but that only makes you start with 2 BP
The full latent power support skill isn't that good for boss fights since you can just farm it to full normally before a fight and use a different passive but it's wonderful for exploration
@@Fidel_Cashflow from what i gather on reading the support skill, give castti the "one step forward" skill from the inventor so she moves first when the battle starts, concoct a potion with the 2 BP she has that has pom leaves and diffusing serum (probably a strengthening serum to double the effect i think), and presto you've basically got full BP.
@@darcidious99100% replace throne with arcanist particio and then I would agree it is the best overall team. The versatility of the team is just too good. Arcanist particio when set up properly can render the team invincible with team-wide side step and magic reflection. Castti's concoct can keep the team's bp up or do more if necessary, Ochette with the variety of beasts she can get can be catered to any situation (such as teamwide buffs, or all enemy debuffs) and she can bring the pain, Hikari is similar to ochette in that sense though slightly less versatile. None of the remaining 4 characters uses/niches are powerful enough to replace the aforementioned four unless you require magic damage.
What are some good ways to rebuild her latent power during longer boss fights?
Items or cassti are wonderful or the tin horn also works well in the Inventor job

Just use go first and full power skills use her free items and give everyone full BP and heal HP/SP every battle. She is insanely good.
Some of best bewielding grace buffs only can occure at max BP unfortunately
When I was building up between chapter 3 + chapter 4 for my team at the time (Hikari, Throné, Osvald & Temenos) I had Temenos as a dancer 2nd class and I met a cait + 2 other enemies. I used a soul orb, decided to defence a couple rounds and just try my luck at a 4x Bewildering. First try I got the 100x exp and suddently my team was lvl around base 64, went up around 20 levels++ on everyone LMAO
Needless to say I had an easy mode going into the story finales, which was kinda boring, but I still gotta do Ochette/Agnea/Castti/Partitio for the next set of story so I still might have to play brains rather than brawns.

Sealticge's is really good, throw that on Castti and give hp regen or immune to debuffs to everyone. I don't see inventor being that useful in how I've been playing since you have everything in the kit from other classes to some extent (my team is Castti/Hikari/Partitio/Agnea)
Also I use stimulate very rarely but it has a place, you use it on a single ally in order to setup during a nuke phase. example let's say next turn you want to nuke a boss but your Partitio is first turn and Hikari with 5 boosts going 2nd turn, you can use Stimulate to make Hikari go in front of Partitio so you can use his full boost latent power(double hit+extra action) then donate bp after with partitio.
Also works if you need to recast a buff/debuff during the break turn before your hard hitter attacks.
Ive not had debuffs or hp regen be a problem in my playthough at all so far.
Inventor is busted powerful imo. Full party heal revive and BP + critical scope making all damage crits + the ability to force your party to go first is just so powerful I dont think agnea has nearly as strong of a second class
@@purplatypus7405 Of course it's to each their own, the game isn't so hard to play one way it's great that there are many playstyles of people. typically though I have never needed to heal hp with hp regen buff on and if I do which is extremely rare I just use Partitio(arcanist) rest for all. I've faced a few bosses(albeit not super strong) that lock boosting and/or confuse and many that reduce damage/def shread but definitely niche use.
I personally think Agnea's EX skill that pushes everyone to act before enemies for 0bp/0latent power is better than the wasting the use of latent power on inventor skill to target all.
Castti Latent power giving everyone 4 BP with Phys atk buff or replenish sp at night a 4bp+5turn sp regen buff is equally as good if not better than the inventors version(you can also do this without latent power too). The crit scope is good but you can use Take aim with a hunter to have a weaker version of it. to me the only question is do you want crit scope at the cost of more options because every other skill has a better alternative imo.
But I do agree that Agnea's 2nd class options aren't that strong in general. I use her as a cleric for the def buff+Divine skill which I use on partitio then make it permant with the Arcanist Divine skill so ever turn he can bp boost twice or heal sp or break.
Also I have fought 1 boss that has reduce to 1hp aoe with 3multiple attacks which I used the 90% shield damage thing to block but extremely niche and was just for fun, could have beat without.
I like to use the dancer job. First you use support skill to make merchant go first. Donate BP to Dancer, then you use divine skill to target all on Castti. Use merchant again, spend money to debuff enemy. Then use Drastic measures full charge. Boom, 9999 damage and instakills almost every random encounter excluding bosses.

Don't worry about "messing up" characters. They keep getting stronger as the game goes on. The only thing that is not easy to replace are the nuts you get for stats but they are pretty low impact in the grand scheme of things

Dancer is DEFINITELY worst class in the game, can't do hardly any damage.
agnea + rehabilitate is so good, specifically in the five-tiered tower
