My mom and dad would go see Waylon when ever he was playing locally. In his last performance he already had a leg amputated and was in sad shape, but his voice and stage persence was as good as ever. My dad said it was one of his best shows he'd ever seen. Rest in peace Pop and Waylon. We all miss you.
Waylon is the greatest him hank jr alabama and brantley gilbert all outlaw country legends including me i do southern country rap im known as Wyte Lightin
I wish that i could have been around when he was big time and doing shows every time that i get on here and listen to country music it always comes to him or the man that is carrying the true country tradition on Jamey Johnson they both really knew what it is like to be just a poor man from the south i just wish that they could have been together it would have been absolutely the best they would have been untouchable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man I miss Ol Waylon!! Love these War between the States songs!! The land of Lee and Jackson and Stuart Ol Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, still loves you Waylon!!
We Americans may have had it out with each other but when we come together we're tough as nails I was born with American pride with a southern stride 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Another great and brilliant song written by Paul Kennerley from the White Mansions album. The best I ever had. Waylon as performer can’t be better. As said, brilliant.
My friend Larry Yoho turned me on to 'White Mansions" in 1982. He died in his 40's and I finally got the chance to stand by his grave on a mountain top in Moundsville W.Va, Overlooking the Ohio River and sing Cat Stevens "father and son" as I promised to do when we were in our early 20's. This one is for you to Larry.
@@dmeads5663 I was the USAF Recruiter in Wheeling from 81-86. My BFF Dave Cain was the Bellaire recruiter. I know Shadyside very well. Powhatten etc. I fished a good deal in that area. a great lesson in life that just because our leaders may have differences , there is no reason that we should follow their example . just as children do not see color or religion , neither should we .
can't believe I am nearly 40 and have only grown to appreciate this song this year. Loved Waylon and the rest of the guys. This version is brilliant. Keep partyin you guys and see you some day. Regards
I used to sing this song when I was lead singer with Tumbledownwind country band back in the eighties , this is for Tony , our drummer , the best country drummer ever , miss ya buddy , fantastic true song by a brilliant country singer
Teddy, you do such great work putting a song together with the pics and all. Thank You for all the songs of Waylon you have put out from the kindness of your heart to share. Love ya.
The very first time I heard this song I was watching the televised Wembley Country Music Festival and there on the stage was a long-haired guy in a white suit and a very pretty lady alongside him. At that time I hadn't heard of Waylon and Jessi but boy, did they impress me! Love Waylon, love this song!
Thanks again Teddie for all this beautifull music and voice singing it. We appreciate you putting this up for all his fans. God Bless you trying to keep his memory alive. Thanks!!
I did not realize how many rebel songs Waylon Jennings actually did he is awsem I was names after these people Kris is my name for it!!!! I'm from nc 1977
White Mansions is a classic work done very well involving Waylon and his wife Jesse,,,get a copy quickly if you can get it..it cover the Civil War in a clever way with views from all the sides in this war travesty,,when brother fought against brother, etc..Genl Sherman's cruel campaign to break the South etc,,
This goes out to all my brothers and sisters in ACWS and SOSKAN, and to all our absent comrades round that great camp fire in the sky. Keep an A frame for this ole' farb !
White Mansions is a underestimated album, though somehow hard to find, at least in good condidtion. It includes some of Waylon´s best best recordings from his addictid period, songs which as far as I know he never did live later or recorded in other settings - please correct me if wrong :-)
Waylon you have always been the best to my brothers who are singing with you in Heaven. Another has been taken today. Now you have my sister is with all of you. Just no reason to sing the blues when in Heaven. See you all soon. Eva from Winnipeg
I also have the original album and mine is still in PERFECT condition because I had purchased it, and then a short while later I seen the same album in the bargain bin, so I bought another copy and never opened the second. The copy I opened and played faired pretty well too but the seams are splitting. But who knows, I may have the only brand new sealed copy of this LP left in existance! For whatever reason this album didnt do so well and I cant understand that because its a good one
I did just what you did. I don't know why it didn't do better either-the whole album is great, put together just right. listen to every word in every song,& you'll think YOU fought for the south-even if you're a yankee!
Im proud to say I have an original album (bought when it came out). Its in pretty bad shape though. I also have the CD with the original insert from the album. It can be purchased still (as of a couple years ago) in a double set with the Legend of Jesse James.
Um, I don't see how this has a Southern slant to it. He's singing about how we should learn to live peacefully, like the "dumb animals". That's what I love about Waylon, his many layers and intelligent lyrics.
@@davetaylor9495 I have horses too, and I don't see them as dumb. My wife and I treat them like pets. They are spoiled rotten! But, compared to people, they are pretty dumb. Not in a slanderous way. Horses amaze you with some of the the things they figure out, and how they are pure therapy when your'e hurting. But man how they can manage to get into some messes that only a horse could do!
This song was part of a "Civil War"Opera called "White Mansions". It was not done as a commercial album. It came with a booklet of civil war pics that had never been published. There were 4 main characters all "played" by Jessie, Waylon and Cash and Dillon from Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They had a great deal of guitar work from some dude named Clapton. It was not pro North or South. It was "point of view" depending on which character was singing. It was did show that most southern troops were not motivated by slavery because owning a slave was about like owning your own airplane now. The poor whites were not fighting for slavery they were fighting for states rights. Of course the rich WERE financing it for slavery. This particularly song is not political at all. It is simply saying war is stupid and more to the point, Making Love, not war is a whole lot more sensible. If you have never heard "White Trash" or "Southern boys" (the former telling you why poor southern whites fought and the latter how jubilant they were with their early successes).
You should’ve said We should’ve left the south alone because we aren’t going anywhere and when the shit gets to were you can’t take it like it is now Don’t be bring your sorry ass down south it’s always been about the people not the government they will always try to take control of you
