80 years of ruling is a bit suspicious long, or do they mean he lived 80 years? It is not impossible he was king that long, particularly if he father died when he was really young and the regent doesn't count but it still seem unlikely. Or did they mix in his father reign in there too in a later clergical error? Otherwise it should be relatively easy to figure out if that un-named grave is his because I don't think skeletons over 80 years old was very common even among the elite at the time. It is certainly an interesting site, the only older royal graves we have are a few in Egypt like Pharaoh Scorpions grave and all we found there so far have been plundered way back. At least the only we are certain of were royal tombs (and yeah, the evidence for them being royal graves and not belonging to religious officials are pretty overwhelming).
The only reference I know Ur from is it was Abraham’s city of birth in the Bible. Weird to think this city is the true birth place of the big 3 religions of today in a sense.

..."Ur" is part of the German language as prefix and it means actually ancient - did you know?
At least the only we are certain of were royal tombs (and yeah, the evidence for them being royal graves and not belonging to religious officials are pretty overwhelming).
love your videos but not fond of the AI generated pic at the opening, would much rather see pics from some of your amazing travels.
The only reference I know Ur from is it was Abraham’s city of birth in the Bible. Weird to think this city is the true birth place of the big 3 religions of today in a sense.
Scripture stated Abraham was from Ur. He left his entire family there.
No one. They were entombed. (i'm not actually a dad, but i do make terrible jokes.)
the names from before messanapada that you list after 19 minutes appx sound gutian to me? Is this possible?
Did Messanapada come to the throne really young, or was his reign exaggerated? Eighty years is a long time.
I had the great good fortune of picking up a copy of Wooley and Moorey's book _Ur 'of the Chaldees'_ secondhand - and cheap. A great read, and thank you, professor, for another great video.
Well... what was made of all those bodies? Are they buried in the same place or stored somewhere else?
I so appreciate your work and also your presentation style. Many thanks to you and all the crew. I am thankful of your "exhumation of bodies" of research ;)
Woah
The kings list? GILGAMESH?
Thanks!
Ok, but who is buried in Grant’s Tomb?
To your question: Who? Well, Ur, of course. Duh.
Is it really pronounced O-ur, not Ur?
The information shared and the perspective delivered is prime stimulation for the brain
Thank you so much to cover this topic as it is one that ive often wondered about mysrelf. I didnt think I would see this discrepancy covered . Very well done .
I'd love to see a collaboration with Digital Hammurabi. You, Esoterica, Dan McClellan, & Angela Puca are my Mt. Rushmore of UA-cam academics!
I love Dr Sledge
What a shame, we lost so many artifacts when the museum were raided
I hope we get Queen Puabi DNA results
Another great video, I can’t afford to contribute yet but when I do it will be a Manila envelope full of cash. Don’t worry about how I got your address.
Ha!
Who’s buried in Grants tomb?
And this is why arceology is not science!
Can't fool me, it was Grant.
Wow,, id love to go on a tour with you Sir,, Your recounting of sites is very informative
I wonder why it's named Ur
The word Ur is a pure Tamil word
The etmylogy of the word ur is clearly mentioned in Tamil language
@@Bhuvanfire cool
@@Chase_baker_1996 You have been scammed. There are a group of Tamils (among others) who want to think that they were the first civilisation. Although we might never know who was the very first, it's glaringly obvious that Sumer was the first large scale one, with Assyria close behind. There is NO EVIDENCE for Tamil being the first at all.
But don't take my word for it. You should NEVER believe anyone in the comment section of any video, on anything! Only trust the real scientists associated with accreditted universities and historical associations. I see this claim by Tamils fairly often in comments, but it is entirely untrue.
@@Bhuvanfirelol such bullshit.
Always a good video.
Sir,
Recently my YT AlGore has been sending me vids from "Expedition Bible" - I grew up in a Pentecostal cult, so... I dunno... I have mixed feelings about the Expedition Bible videos.
I would appreciate your commentary regarding their videos.
Thank you,
~Wallaroo
Been a massive fan/viewer of this channel(legit haven't missed a single episode) since a few months back, when my friend decided to use MY gd account to comment, bitching about your why files video (making me look like a complete idiot) to which you responded, basically saying such.
He may have made me look like a complete and utter ignorant a hole, but I never would have discovered this channel if it wasn't for that. Worth it. Seriously though, this channel is freaking awesome.
Dr Miano. Have you ever reached out to lesser known channels than the JRE to have a debate with some LAHT folks. Channels such as Danny Jones or Julian Dorey's podcasts. They still have significant views and both host these alternate views regularly. I for one would love to see this happen. Love your work.
The answer to the question posed in the title is of course: Royalty! You’re welcome! No need to watch! I just gave you some time back!
Nah, its aliens.
xD
How more reasonnable graves these Sumerian kings had compared to Egyptian pharaos of that time, but also they must have lacked the monstruous power of the pharaos.
Well, I'm going to think twice from now on, when someone asks me "If you could be anyone in history, who would you be" or any variation of that ....I do not want to be a servant in any way lol. I never knew this. WOW. Thanks!
Who was buried in the royal tombs at 'Ur'?
Stab in the dark, but was it some peasants from Siberia?
Would love to go to southern Egypt with you, sadly I don't think I have enough vacation time saved up!
So why were people sacrificed and buried in lieu of the actual kings, etc...? Did I understand that correctly...? This is a 'new' thing...? Is it seen in other cultures...?
Assyrians did this. They left us some records talking about it. Whenever there was a bad omen about the health or life of the king, they would replace him with a substitute, kill the substitute, and cancel out the bad prophecy.
@@WorldofAntiquity hmmm... Did it work...? According to them of course... ALSO-- major kudos to you for your channel... I like the informal, conversational flow of your narrative, but you don't sacrifice cogency and scholarship... I HATE when channels have a jokey, flippant tone; they're NEVER funny or outrageous and I just click away...
Flint dibble is trash
Such a great presentation about this information
I bet it was Ur royalty
