@oofknight69 same. I once parried every single one of Steve's 17 jabs until the sword broke, and then I just punished him for it. Super ez counter play, players just suck.

@@dyanaprajna4556 I did body a steve at lower ranks as Sonic. Was a rather stressful match though for me. And prob not nearly as stressful for him, even losing. Cause the way Steve has that stun lock on hit, and how light Sonic is, I needed to basically play extremely careful on my timings and try to mix up my use of air moves due to that stupid magma cube blocking the approach for a lot of easy hit moves like homing attack.
I noticed a ton of occasions where Steves (in THIS video) did the phantom no-hit-stun tech thing.
1:32 Steve was over 100% this should have been certain death. He did the ghost block thing right before engaging, knowing full well that he could ‘get out of it’ whereas that sort of shenanigan would have killed any other character.

honestly even tho he has way to many techs I will always love how they added steve into smash as a character. The memes and the combo game this man has brought to the game has Just been awesome since then but we already knew he was gonna get banned at some point and time. I despise Steve as a character but seeing this shit just makes me laugh. From all the almost 90 characters, legends from all different games, villains and heroes, MINECRAFT STEVE just pummels every single one of them. It’s just so ironic.
Cause dude can carry the weight of two planets, so it makes sense for him to be super strong he literally weighs more than real life earth.

The person who wins has to SD at the start or something and if you win multiple times you have to SD twice I think, so yeah, could be that

Steve as a whole sign the problem, it’s him being able to place blocks. If that wasn’t there he wouldn’t be banned
I find it funny the reason why Steve is in smash is because Sonic punched Mario too hard
If there's a Smash 6, I think a simple nerf would just be not letting him place blocks mid-air, only letting him pillar/bridge off of the stage or other blocks. It'd remove alot of 0-deaths, remove the tech that got him banned, and nerf gimping people off stage. Tbh I don't even know why he has that in the first place, it's not even possible in Minecraft.

It's ironic how Steve started as a joke, but it was kinda shocking when he actually gets in. He's really faithful to Minecraft's base game too, unleashing all the creativity the player can do with placing blocks and making traps with TNT and anvil. Then by the end of Smash Ultimate's development, people hated him since well, kinda not fun when his gameplan involves hiding in safety behind walls as he mines and with one of the best edgeguard abilities in the game. Now with Phantom MLG discovered, he's just straight banned. No matchup knowledge or counterplay changes the fact Steve can simply deny combos and rather combo YOU instead.

@@EmperorPenguin1217 I think the main reason why the technique hasn't been seen much is, aside from being discovered about a month ago, Steve was pretty much immediately banned in most notable tournaments once PMLG came out. Either tournaments would try to ban and moderate the technique itself, which is an issue to try doing (like how to identify it, rewatching about every match to make certain, the punishment, and what if the accusation is false), or Steve's outright banned to not have to bother with the tactic in the first place.

Honestly, i'm glad Steve got banned. He's got way too many tools in his kit to be fair. Not including the new tech, he's got:
Minecart: Busted
A spike
A kill throw
Early kill-throw setups (block into backthrow spike off-stage)
Major Gimping potential W/O BLOCKS
Block-gimping, which completely ruins some match ups in Steve's favor
Jump resets via blocks
FUCKING BLOCKS IN GENERAL
Anvil
Lingering hitboxes due to blocks and crafting-bench
Walking jabs and uptilts WHICH ARE SAFE
Diamond: Fucking busted
Good two frame moves like down-smash and down-tilt
Insane recovery because of a combination of Up+B having a hitbox, resetting his jump, minecart and blocks
Can't shark him cause of anvil and blocks
*Edit: I forgot to mention his stupidly efficient combo game. Not too hard to input and you can get 50-70% ez on a stray, safe move. Stupid
The combos are fun to watch, but really he's just unfair. I'm glad everyone finally pulled the trigger.

He is Steve, simply, STEVE... but nevertheless, that is what makes him great, HE IS SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL. He's a guy who doesn't need to be "cool" in appearance to show how Gigachad and tough his fists and blocks are (and... something else. >:) )... he proved to be GOD in this game. That is the result of cutting down, digging, even sometimes mining with your bare hands, fighting against mountros, even if you don't win anything... even CARRYING HUNDREDS OF STONE BLOCKS OR EVEN GOLD, being poisoned, shot by arrows WITHOUT DIE INSTANTLY, be cursed, go hungry, be chased by ghosts, you can be INFINITELY SLEEPLESS IF YOU WANT, SWIM LIKE THE SEA GOD, SURVIVE LAVA IF YOU ARE PREPARED and many other things that a normal being would not even dream of facing. Steve trained for 11 years by that point (and still does), to enter Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2020... and he was more than ready. HE'S JUST, STEVE.

And Ness literally went god-mode, transfered his consciousness into a robot, and defeated an eternal space entity that was destroying the universe (one of the most disturbing final bosses ever), by becoming one with the earth
Those two are mega simplified, goofy smash characters that have done so much more 💀 Give Lucas his dragon and Ness the power of the earth. Love how insanely powerful they are in Mother, but are basically just "Bonk!" in smash... and then there's goddamn Steve

How to fix Steve in three easy steps:
Step 1: Place Block is now Steve's side special. They can only place blocks on the ground or on blocks connected to the ground. Minecart is now the dash attack.
Step 2: Steve needs gunpowder in order to use TNT. They now summon a creeper for their down smash which is the only way they can get gunpowder.
Step 3: The crafting table requires Steve to have 4 blocks of wood and pressing shield and the special button to summon.
Step 4: Don't let a Melee player ban the only black character.
I dont think any of these make much sense, minecart should only grab when the opponent isnt shielding, TNT would use even more materials, and the crafting table wouldnt be movable
@@EmperorPenguin1217 I have more ideas on how to fix Steve but:
-The minecart would have a hitgrab hitbox, meaning it can be shielded like Isabelle's Fishing Rod.
-I'd also change it so sand is a separate block and is also used in TNT, and the block itself would be bigger producing a larger explosion. High risk in getting the materials means high reward in a larger explosion.
-You could still move the crafting table, you'd just press the special button while shielding in a different spot. All that changes is that Steve doesn't start off with it.

@@juneru2 Exactly. That’s why I suggested making it its own move instead of stuffing it into neutral special. That way you’d have better control of where the blocks were placed but still would be limited by it being connect to the ground.
@@juneru2 To be fair the blocks decaying, tnt always falling even when not ignited, block based moves like anvil and minecart being usable in the air doesn’t happen in Minecraft either. Making Steve only be able to place blocks on the ground would probably break him since not all platforms are at exact block level and blocks might not work because some stages have them SLIGHTLY off the ground, considering how much of a hassle they were to program already
Hot take, Steve is not broken at all. Cheesy? Absolutely. But I'd put him on the same level of cheesy as Game & Watch. Steve's biggest weakness is DI and fast attacks. Don't believe me? Fight a level 9 CPU and watch how it bullies Steve.

My honest opinion on Steve: I don't care about the broken tech or the janky mechanics or any of that. What I see is half of all the tournaments I view becoming Steve, and the other half is the rest of the roster. I don't care who you are, if you think it's okay for a game with 70+ characters to be centric around just this one, I don't know what to say to you. I think he should've been banned on that principal alone just to keep the game interesting.
