Both players are very skilled, so no disrespect, but ZSS has to work so much harder lol. Like I was watching that whole set and watching Marss maneuver around Kazuya for 4 games, then riddles gets one opening and suddenly ZSS is dead. It's that simple for Kazuya
Edit: Jesus Christ both comments I put down talking about the nature of the game have full blown arguments going on in them. Those talking about how kazuya is still hard and it's not easy to just get one opening and win, I agree with you. That's why I said both players are skilled. This is just the nature of the matchup and ZSS has to play almost perfect to not give kazuya an opening. I am not saying riddles isn't skilled. For those saying it's easier for Kazuya or disrespecting riddles for using kazuya (who isn't even top 10 in my opinion so why are we hating on kazuya) you are also wrong, ZSS Kazuya is even according to riddles as well so.
For those curious this was my second comment detailing my view of this, please stop arguing about the same thing again and again.
For all those hating on riddles and glazing marss, this is just the game. They both put in an insane amount of work and they both just played the matchup. ZSS tries to zone, and Kazuya tries to find an opening and tries to end stocks with an opening.
yeah as a zss main thats pretty sad, zss in theory has a much better neutral but she cant whiff once, but for some reason marss was not changing his di line in kazuya combos thats a huge thing when fighting kazuya...
This applies to about 80 to 90 percent of the roster when facing against Kaz
Marss could have played the matchup better. He wasn't changing his di alot
Alternatively you could just argue that all ZSS has to do is camp and space kaz out. Also bad combo counterplay for Mars

ZSS can jump around Kazayu and edge guard the hell out of him, but ZSS being a high faller and being light makes zero to deaths much easier on her.

Also whether a character is light or not doesn’t really make a difference on how difficult they are to zero to death as kazuya. If you’re able to do the electric dash forward nair DI option select then you most likely can perform the extra loop to do it on super heavies, the main factor with characters being hard to combo as kaz is weird hurtbox interactions that make certain combo routes fail, like w diddy and gren

Marss is so good at getting out of kazuya combos early

Honestly not really, he didn’t mix up and just held away (which isn’t optimal) on his DI, he could’ve easily won this set if he had a bit more experience. However, I will give this to Marss, his mixups on ferps tech and his recoveries were all really good, he did that really well. The true reason how Marss was escaping these electric combos is because of ZSS frame 2 escape options like airdodge that most characters don’t have. Not discrediting Marss by any means, he chose his character and i’m not gonna discredit him for choosing a character with amazing escape options, that’s good on him.
He truly didn’t do that well with escaping combos. Especially when constantly DI’ing away from stage at edge. Literal worst option you can do is DI away at ledge. Multiple ferps techs could’ve been avoided also

Man, that was such wild gameplay. Marss was spacing everything perfectly at times, able to hit Riddle's shield without being grabbed, getting EWGF, or any other out of shield option. Made him look like Riddles was fighting a fly.
...and then Kazuya Invuln frames kick in to save the day. Love to see it.
Love both of these players, they both played extremely well here. Marss' spacing was immaculate!

Lot of people don’t know but if your character has a particular high jump you can jump out of his second nair (assuming you didn’t get spike to death) and footstool kazuya for a reverse edge guard

13:50 this entire second stock here is crazy, Marss nudging inch by inch landing his laser setups one after another but failing at the very read and not being secure the stock while Riddles is just holding on, not losing his composure until he manages to find that one opportunity to take the kill

He lost a half dozen interactions and then KAZUYA MISHIMA. That's literally it.
Didn’t change his DI, got greedy a couple times, and went for some not so good options in neutral. Kazuya obv has matchup but he could have played it a bit better I think. I’m not a top player though so I can’t give a 100% right answer

I will never forgive Nintendo for what they did to ZSS. I counted at least 3 stocks that would’ve been granted to Zss pre nerf. Meanwhile, Kazuya sneezes and Marss dies. Gives me ulcers to watch.

Marrs kinda nervous, forward smash was deff a missinput and he really got antsy on that first set, being way too aggressive. If he plays more chill and less scared I can see him winning easily, he made it very close even if he was playing so scared, it seemed

I respect the hell out of riddles for his skill and ability to push his characters. Fuck kazuya still tho, the dlc risk reward is so frustrating to watch. He just has better options, half of which have armor or intangibility. So sad seeing marss lose when he played so damn well, minus his combo di that is lol.

Yea but Kazuya being Kazuya just making things much easier. Nothing you can do about wind god fist. Marss has to work twice as hard, watch pressure so he doesn’t get hit ONCE, and even with speed marss has to execute and perform more reads. Kazuya is just a boring af character

Marss ZSS is so impressive. This character is dogwater compared to smash 4 and he still makes her work, somehow. It is the struggle playing ZSS without any of her good smash 4 confirms.

I swear people love to call Kazuya "broken" because of his combo game, but they don't even realize how hard it is to execute those combos on high level play. If you're biased and prefer Marss as a player, then that's fine but at least give Riddles his deserved credit. Marss played good, yeah, but in the end Riddles played better.

Kazuya has so many cheese moves for very little extra effort and it isn’t close. At a top level every character takes work, some less than others Kazuya being one of them. Riddles hit some nice parries though.
