Just because adapalene isn’t proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it’s anti aging doesn’t mean that it definitely isn’t. Since I started using it, my fine lines and wrinkles have diminished greatly. I’m fact, it’s worked much better for anti aging than acne for me
I just started my acne treatment with differin but the night I skipped differin I use tretinol I noticed my face got smoother just one night, maybe you should try both.
I used Differin .1% for 2 months and didn't really see any effect for better or worse. I realize now I should've tried with it a little longer. Anyway I asked my Dr to switch me to tretinoin but once I got it home and looked at the ingredients I realized that most brands of tretinoin are formulated with Butylated Hydroxyanisole (which the US Department of Health and Human Services has called a "reasonably anticipated human carcinogen") or BHT (which is also a suspected carcinogen). I'm just a regular old person who prefers the ingredients in my products not to be likely carcinogens so for me Differin wins. Especially because I realized they make a .3% formulation. I wish there was more discussion of this as I had no idea until I got the tretinoin prescription.
The dose makes the poison: you aren't being exposed to dangerous levels of either of those *suspected* (not in humans, mind you) carcinogens. It comprises a tiny part of the formula, and probably can't even get through your skin.
I’m an adapalene (differin) user and in my personal experience, it helps get rid of my sebaceous hyperplasia as well, esp those that just formed (it will disappear within a week with 2-3 differin application. I only use differin 3x a week)
@@HeidiAndScots i am happy with it, many people had commented that my skin looks clear and taut/ no visible wrinkles for my age (early 40s). Since my previous comment, i have moved to 5x a week differin with one night for salicylic acid (for pores) and 1 night a week where i dont apply anything strong. I’m thinking of taking it to the next level by moving on to prescription tretinoin this year
I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to work my way up to Tret. When I try to increase my Adapalene to nightly, my skin gets really angry and I have to back down to 3x a week again. No complaints though. My skin has brightened and the texture has greatly improved in 4 months time. I don’t have acne but use it for anti aging because I have sensitive skin.
Adapalene never worked for me. It made me purge so badly and never got rid of my acne. Now I am on 0.025% tretinoin. It works wonderful. It never made me purge and I stopped breaking out.
I didn't really see anything with Adapalene. Switching to Tretinoin was such a blessing for me. I started to switch to Tretinoin after watching your video about this. And i've never experienced any irritation at all using any of these retinoids.
I literally searched Dr Dray’s videos earlier today for this exact question and ended up watching an old upload. This is exactly what I needed today. You read my mind! Thanks Dr Dray! 😃
Dr. dray is one smart cookie. Much appreciate all the information and knowledge you share with us. I couldn’t find info about the differences between differen & tret anywhere. Skincare enthusiasts could never answer a question so thoroughly.
In Indonesia we only have tretinoin in the brand vitacid, I use 0.05-0.1 %. I'm in my 20's and starts using it for almost a year, luckily my face can tolerate it and my friend told me that my face looks glowing :)
I was literally trying to find videos dealing with this topic a week back!! And all I could find was an old video by Dr dray stating why she switched to tret from adap, *so* glad you posted this! Thank yoouu
I use Adapalene 2-3x/wk for anti-aging, followed the next morning by a T-Zone Benzoyl Peroxide (PanOxyl) wash followed by a T-Zone application of Salicylic Acid 2% gel. WOW...pores non-existent. Above per Dr. Dray in one of her earlier vids. ❤️
I once remember watching a Dr Dray vid where she said we yet don't have research to show efficacy of adapalene for anti aging. Have you seen improvement?
I continued using Adapalene while on accutane bc neither my doctor or derm told me not too. I had no peeling except a little dryness inside my nose and around the base 👀 I focused (and still do) on hydration in my skincare routine as I was warned about excessive dryness. And, well it didn’t happen even though I did this during the (Canadian) winter too. My skin is baby soft and clear now for the first time in my life! I guess everyone’s skin is different :)
After years of differin, made the switch to tretenoin. I hope I start seeing positive results..I'm using it every night. Haven't experienced irritation thus far.
Love this!!! Thank you Dr. Dray! I've actually been using Tazarotene after 2 years of using Tret and looking into Trifarotene now for anti-aging since it a 4 gen retinoid but can't seem to find any information on it's antiaging benefits. Would it be more superior to Tazarotene (I can tolerate it quite well).
My derm recently prescribed tazarotene to treat my hormonal acne. Had never heard of it before but I really like it! I was scared of getting dry, peeling skin. But I've had zero irritation after 3 weeks of use! I wish dr dray would compare taz & tretinoin. Rarely hear any info about these newer retinoids.
Thank you for this video, and all your other ones!! Could you make a video on Arazlo? I just got prescribed Arazlo .045%. Seems so much weaker than what I used to use in my early 20s (.1% tazorac), but was told it penetrates deeper with less irritation. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I was just literally searching for adapalene vs tretinoin comparison videos and information YESTERDAY and today you published this video, it almost feels like you read my mind! Thanks for this very informative video. I would like to ask, if my skin can tolerate tretinoin well (my main problem is acne but of course I would like to also prevent skin aging), would tretinoin still be a better choice than adapalene? I was thinking if adapalene somehow is a better choice for acne treatment compared to tretinoin?
I've been using Tretinion for 8 years and love it. I've never had an issue. It's never irritated my face. My 47 year old skin looks amazing! I even use it on the top of my hands.
Unfortunately after 2 weeks on tret, it gave me severe side effect such as migraine and stomach sensitivity even in the lower dosage .25 , i’m pretty sure i never had migraine before i started tret. Not eveyone can tolerate with tret.. When i stopped using it, the symptoms went away!! I actly only used it 2x a week. I am currently switch to differin and i’m glad there is no severe side effect for me.
Please make a video about the new European product Tretin (topical isotretinoin 0.5) Otc tretinoin was discontinued and this is the only alternative my pharmacist offered me
In philippines i use maxipeel 3 and rdl for yrs. Since i was 19? I love the results because im on my 30s now and my skin is young looking. I use sunscreen ! I also use bha and benzoyl peroxide when im not using tretinoin
Differin saved my skin from acne! But I then switched to tretinoin because of the anti aging aspect.. well my acne came back. Sooo I went back to Differin and the acne is at bay… Now I’m using the differin on my face and tretinoin on my neck, chest and hands..
I'm considering trying Hello Brightly which I think is hyaluronic acid based. I use Mylan 0.01% tret in alcohol denatured gel and I feel like that is a challenge to continue because I'm dry and it's just slightly slower to reach the plateau of results. Plus the vehicle evaporates fast so it's HARD to distribute evenly with a pea size. I miss spots and end up with inflamed areas after a hot shower etc. because I had to squeeze out more gel to get my whole face.
Why do dermatologists on UA-cam or skin specialists on UA-cam hardly EVER talk about Tazorac? That’s like the forgotten retinoid, it works better for me , at least the .1% cream than retin a and differin and also it’s great for winkles and stubborn hyperpigmentation.
Thanks so much for explaining the difference in such detail. I've been thinking of giving Differin a try and this helped me make a decision. Happy Friday, Dr Dray!! I hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a fantastic weekend! ❤

Dr Dray, can you please discuss vertical nail ridges? What causes them and how to get rid of them. Some of my nails have lots of ridges and some don’t have any. Not sure what is causing it.
Yes, I read about the occurrence of dry eyes, after usage of retinoids on reddit a few days ago. There were some people, who talked about it, even from retinol(!). Sometimes it's reversable, often it's not. And I guess, I have to try to leave out the eye area and see, if the condition of my own dry eyes improve (which I now strongly suspect to be caused by my usage of retinol, I never thought about that, before reading that thread. The dry eyes definitely occured after starting my retinol usage and I had never amy problems with dry eyes before). If that won't help, I guess I will have to think about leaving retinol out of my skincare. ☹
This comes perfectly. Just waiting for my tret + niacinamide prescription from Dermatica, after an over a year usage of Differin which completely transformed my skin! I hope the transition is smooth. How much do they differ in terms of sun sensitivity? I love being in the sun, wondering if differin is a safer option provided that I use spf?
May I ask why did you want to switch from differin to tretinoin? Differin uses adapalene which is a newer version and newer formulated vitamin A than Tretinoin. This is why we have more data about Tretinoin than adapalene since it is much older technology.
Which one is best for anti aging in you opinion? I realize there are less studies with adapalene, I currently use adapalene I have for about a year but I’ve noticed it’s less effective than it use to be for me wondering if a perscription tretinoin is my next step
Hello! If I have been using differin for almost a year, which tretinoin should I switch it for, the 0.025% or de 0.05%? I’m 47 yo, with adult acne, hiperpigmentation and enlarge pores. Thank you in advance.
Been using tretinoin for years after accutane, but I have been struggling to find a balance with it, my skin was always red and peeling. I recently switched to differin and it’s too soon to tell but my skin is less irritated with it.
Thank you. I can't get tretinoin, but I can buy Differin from USA. I live in Europe in a country where one can't get tretinoin for other than acne. Should one chose Differin or is retinaldehyde better? For anti age.
I was on Accutane for 6 months, 80mg a day, and felt no dryness on my face whatsoever. Just lips dried constantly. Bc I felt it worked on my face only in the 6th month, I used acids an peels throughout. Now I'm continuing with tretinoin, acids and vit C. I still wonder why my face never dried.
If we have to be on adapelene all our life for anti ageing benefits then when do we use all the other stuff? Heard that adapelene works best when paired with just a moisturizer
Just today I mixed tretinoin with aloe Vera applied to face and neck. My concern is that will the aloe assist tretinoin to deeper layers of skin, causing irritation? Also, Tretinoin does not spread well and I can never tell if I have enough coverage using the product as is. So I’ve decided to thin it with aloe. I guess the questions to ask is how much of skins surface area does tretinoin need to cover to be effective. By diluting it with aloe this should make it potentially less effective, no?
Is there a difference between gel cream lotion tret, or differences in brand names. I've been on retin a micro which is a lotion and I hated it, it didn't spread nicely and burned my skin on the first use but says it's for more for sensitive skin....are there better brands for one target...wrinkles or acne or pigmentation
Would love an in depth look at Micro tretinoin. I've heard that the patent is about to expire which would be wonderful! But I can't really find any details about it anywhere.
Hi 🤗 Could you answer this in a Q&A?: what are your thoughts on ethyl lactyl retinoate? It is said to be «the first double conjugate retinoid to deliver both AHA and RC to skin on a hydrolysis based time released mechanism thereby theoretically maximizing efficacy while simultaneously minimizing irritation.» A woman at a skin care center tried to sell me a product today that had this ingredient, and according to the sales woman it is as efficient as Tretinoin but without the irritation. When googling I find studies that conclude the same, but I’ m trying to be source critical and would love to hear your insight on the matter. Thanks a million 🤩
During the week I have been alternating between a Retinaldehyde cream (4 nights) and adapalene (3 nights). It that a good idea or should I pick one and stick with it?
Dr Dray, does it make sense to switch to tretinoin if adapalene can not control acne? And after how long of using adapalene and seeing inadequate results do we explore other treatment options?
Does our skin purge multiple times by using actives such as if we use retinol and purge and then have clear skin but suddenly stated using salicylic acid cleanser ,will our skin purge or not??
Doctor, please could you answer this question.... Is isotretinoin gel as good as tretinoin itself in wrinkle treatment? Tretinoin has been discontinued in Greece... Thank you in advance!!

Can’t find any none waterproof sunscreen for children. But in winter my kids don’t really get sweaty, so do I need to use any cleanser at night to wash off the sunscreen I apply for them in the mornings? My kids are only 7 and 3, very difficult to get them wash their face.
Well we know why it’s available more and more over the counter as most role who are going to buy dapalene are them who have acne as that’s what it mainly used and works for. Tretroin on the other hand works better on wrinkles so alot more people who don’t have acne but would use it for wrinkles could use it inadequately causing problems.

Hi Dr Dray, love your videos! thank you for educating us! I had a question- I feel tretinoin cream that I have prescribed for acne I cant spread all over face, its like a cream but whenever I try to spread a pea size amount on,it just clumps in to white small particles. I notice it happens even if i dont apply anything else after washing face as well so i dont think its any other product interaction. Is it still effective? sometimes i just put it on problem areas at end of routine. I dont really have any irritation from 0.1 percent except redness if I over do it. Will it really absorb if I put it over moisturizer?

Just because adapalene isn’t proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it’s anti aging doesn’t mean that it definitely isn’t. Since I started using it, my fine lines and wrinkles have diminished greatly. I’m fact, it’s worked much better for anti aging than acne for me
I just started my acne treatment with differin but the night I skipped differin I use tretinol I noticed my face got smoother just one night, maybe you should try both.
@@chinazaokechukwu that only increases irritation, stick to one.
Thank you. was looking for this comment because I want to use it as an anti aging product 😂
How long have you been using it? I badly wanna switch it with my retinol because my goal is also anti-aging.
I've actually never tried Tretinoin nor Differin, but I love to learn new stuff :)
I’m an adapalene (differin) user and in my personal experience, it helps get rid of my sebaceous hyperplasia as well, esp those that just formed (it will disappear within a week with 2-3 differin application. I only use differin 3x a week)
How do you like it now?
@@HeidiAndScots i am happy with it, many people had commented that my skin looks clear and taut/ no visible wrinkles for my age (early 40s). Since my previous comment, i have moved to 5x a week differin with one night for salicylic acid (for pores) and 1 night a week where i dont apply anything strong. I’m thinking of taking it to the next level by moving on to prescription tretinoin this year
This is so scary :O I was googling adapalene vs tretinoin literally a few hours ago. I open UA-cam and see this upload. Great video as always :)
I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to work my way up
to Tret.
This is my issue now. I'm 27 and I've never had so much acne on my face at once and the hyperpigmentation it has left makes me want to cry!
as an avid adapalene user, i’m looking forward to trying tret soon. 💜😊
I didn't really see anything with Adapalene. Switching to Tretinoin was such a blessing for me. I started to switch to Tretinoin after watching your video about this. And i've never experienced any irritation at all using any of these retinoids.
What difference you noticed?
I literally searched Dr Dray’s videos earlier today for this exact question and ended up watching an old upload. This is exactly what I needed today. You read my mind! Thanks Dr Dray! 😃
Thanks to you Dr. Dray I really stepped up my skin care routine! Sunscreen daily, and cleanse + differin + moisturise at night 💙
Dr. dray is one smart cookie. Much appreciate all the information and knowledge you share with us.
I couldn’t find info about the differences between differen & tret anywhere.
Skincare enthusiasts could never answer a question so thoroughly.
I am currently using Tretinoin 0.5% for my face, neck and chest. As for Adapalene, I like to use it for scars on my body.
Lucky you! I can’t use tretinoin on my neck. It gives my neck redness and then it hurts for months. Hands are fine though
Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Same, I’m very lucky that I can use tretinoin in my face, neck and chest without irritation 😄
In Indonesia we only have tretinoin in the brand vitacid, I use 0.05-0.1 %. I'm in my 20's and starts using it for almost a year, luckily my face can tolerate it and my friend told me that my face looks glowing :)
Hi, km pake vitacid itu brp kali per minggu? Atau pake tiap hari?
Trueee! Even in the purging phase you can see the glow (aku oily combi acne prone).
I was literally trying to find videos dealing with this topic a week back!! And all I could find was an old video by Dr dray stating why she switched to tret from adap, *so* glad you posted this! Thank yoouu
I’ve used almost everything, and they all work for me; currently OTC Differin covering all the bases plus B complex and C supplement.
What's the salicylic acid gel you use?
@deanna did you have scarring during accutane
After years of differin, made the switch to tretenoin. I hope I start seeing positive results..I'm using it every night. Haven't experienced irritation thus far.
hope its going well x
Hello👋🏻 any updates?!
@@ARIO_j2 It works! It took like almost 4 weeks to see results! My acne scars are gone and I barely break out now
Love this!!!
Same! Hope she sees this
Im 27 and been one year since i started to use Differin, my skin looks amazing but should i switch to something else for better anti aging retinols?
I was just literally searching for adapalene vs tretinoin comparison videos and information YESTERDAY and today you published this video, it almost feels like you read my mind! Thanks for this very informative video. I would like to ask, if my skin can tolerate tretinoin well (my main problem is acne but of course I would like to also prevent skin aging), would tretinoin still be a better choice than adapalene? I was thinking if adapalene somehow is a better choice for acne treatment compared to tretinoin?
Same question I have
I've been using Tretinion for 8 years and love it. I've never had an issue. It's never irritated my face. My 47 year old skin looks amazing! I even use it on the top of my hands.
How often do u use tretinoin?
@@wajeehaparveen1463 every day. I apply it after I wash my face in the evening then use my night moisturizer
I have used Diferin for a year and a half . It has made a difference for sure. But is see my derm in a month and I’m going to ask for Tretinoin in.
Please make a video about the new European product Tretin (topical isotretinoin 0.5)
Otc tretinoin was discontinued and this is the only alternative my pharmacist offered me
Thank you Dr dray! Your vids saved my skin. I use tretinion and my skin has never looked this good 👍😊
You’re such a queen, honestly! Thanks for the amazingly helpful video ❤️
In philippines i use maxipeel 3 and rdl for yrs. Since i was 19? I love the results because im on my 30s now and my skin is young looking. I use sunscreen ! I also use bha and benzoyl peroxide when im not using tretinoin
👍🏼👋
Do you trust Stylevana for Asian sunscreens Dr. Dray?
Differin saved my skin from acne! But I then switched to tretinoin because of the anti aging aspect.. well my acne came back. Sooo I went back to Differin and the acne is at bay…
Now I’m using the differin on my face and tretinoin on my neck, chest and hands..
Woah every time I have a question about skin care I look it up and you coincidentally posted a video about it. EVERY. TIME.
Hey doc would you please consider making a video about exfoliation while using tretinoin
Could you do a video on tazarotene and how it differs from tretinoin? I'm on it for my acne right now and would love to know what you think!
Yes! I just started tazarotene as well.
**Dear Brightly
Omg last year I asked for my bday the silk pillowcase set comes with a hair bonnet and eye mask and love it all. Got it coz of you😙
Thank you Dr Dray. Always looking forward to your videos. Simplified my skincare routine thanks to you🙂 Greetings from Aruba🇦🇼
I think Dr. Dray talk about it in some of her old videos
Thanks so much for explaining the difference in such detail. I've been thinking of giving Differin a try and this helped me make a decision. Happy Friday, Dr Dray!! I hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a fantastic weekend! ❤

Quick question Dr. is there a problem with using tretinoin around the eyes besides posible irritation?
Thank you for all your videos! What actives should I use on the days when I’m not using tretinoin?
Glycolic acid.
Thanks for getting me onto lily silk they are not as expensive as other companies and shipping isn’t long either!
Dr Dray, can you please discuss vertical nail ridges? What causes them and how to get rid of them. Some of my nails have lots of ridges and some don’t have any. Not sure what is causing it.
Hi, Dr. Dray! Would I apply benzoyl peroxide before or after the differin? Or does it matter? TIA!
Does tretinoin affect tear glands? I have dry eye after using tret for 7 years. Any info in future videos would be helpful!
Would love to know your thoughts on the dermatica brand Dr dray 💞😃
This comes perfectly. Just waiting for my tret + niacinamide prescription from Dermatica, after an over a year usage of Differin which completely transformed my skin! I hope the transition is smooth.
How much do they differ in terms of sun sensitivity? I love being in the sun, wondering if differin is a safer option provided that I use spf?
update? do you like the the tret? :)
@@ohbbyelena My skin couldn't adjust to it in winter. Back to gentler retinoids
May I ask why did you want to switch from differin to tretinoin? Differin uses adapalene which is a newer version and newer formulated vitamin A than Tretinoin. This is why we have more data about Tretinoin than adapalene since it is much older technology.
@@dvdgalutube Just wanted to see how my skin responded to it! Since then I've tried many other retinods.
Which one is best for anti aging in you opinion? I realize there are less studies with adapalene, I currently use adapalene I have for about a year but I’ve noticed it’s less effective than it use to be for me wondering if a perscription tretinoin is my next step
Same here, i start breaking even though I'm using adapalene. And i was wondering if i should switch on the tretinole
Hello! If I have been using differin for almost a year, which tretinoin should I switch it for, the 0.025% or de 0.05%? I’m 47 yo, with adult acne, hiperpigmentation and enlarge pores. Thank you in advance.
i’ve been wondering same thing!!!!!
Dr dray said to start slow and low so id probably start with the 0.025% one
Been using tretinoin for years after accutane, but I have been struggling to find a balance with it, my skin was always red and peeling. I recently switched to differin and it’s too soon to tell but my skin is less irritated with it.
Hello Miss! How are you doing now?
You are so wonderful Dr Dray! Love your videos.
Hi, I'm in the UK. Please could you tell me which tretinoin to buy? thanks x
If I don’t have acne do you still suggest differin for anti aging?
Thanks! Now I can wear tretinoin at night (what I’m already doing) and differin in the morning I hope is not too much for my skin

I love the robe you’re wearing. I love the pillowcases too.
You look even younger and prettier every time you upload a new video
During the week I have been alternating between a Retinaldehyde cream (4 nights) and adapalene (3 nights). It that a good idea or should I pick one and stick with it?
Dr Dray, does it make sense to switch to tretinoin if adapalene can not control acne? And after how long of using adapalene and seeing inadequate results do we explore other treatment options?
I wonder this too because I had use adapalene for 3 months but my acne still available, I really need to know this
Samee here
Give your skin at least 1 year to really see results. Skin needs time. Be patient. And if you won’t be satisfied after a year, change your treatment .
What percentage of Tretinoin should I start using if I want to make the switch from Adapalene ? I completely tolerate Differin. Thanks.
same question tho
you should always start with the lowest dose

Is isotretinoin gel as good as tretinoin itself in wrinkle treatment? Tretinoin has been discontinued in Greece...
Thank you in advance!!
Thank you for the videos. I’ve learned a lot from your channel. I have a question about children’s sunscreen. So all the children’s sunscreen are waterproof. Can’t find any none waterproof sunscreen for children. But in winter my kids don’t really get sweaty, so do I need to use any cleanser at night to wash off the sunscreen I apply for them in the mornings? My kids are only 7 and 3, very difficult to get them wash their face.
"for children" isn't necessary....you can use any sunscreen on kids, provided it is one that they tolerate and like wearing (which is key)
Thank you for the straightforward answer on tretinoin vs adapalene

Hi Dr Dray, love your videos! thank you for educating us! I had a question- I feel tretinoin cream that I have prescribed for acne I cant spread all over face, its like a cream but whenever I try to spread a pea size amount on,it just clumps in to white small particles. I notice it happens even if i dont apply anything else after washing face as well so i dont think its any other product interaction. Is it still effective? sometimes i just put it on problem areas at end of routine. I dont really have any irritation from 0.1 percent except redness if I over do it. Will it really absorb if I put it over moisturizer?
