Great idea! Simple and not too costly. I am planning to make a shelter exactly like this for my free-ranging geese so that if it snows here (southeast), they will have dry shelter to sleep in and eat and drink. I plan on using railroad ties for the base. That will surely be a great anchor for those windy days that we get in hurricane season and freak winter tornadoes that we just had yesterday.
Yes, this is holding up great with the snowfall I've had plus our wind storm we just had, I'm surprised the zipties are holding in 60mph winds but they are
@@kelleyfamilyhomesteadofmai4592 Zip ties are pretty nifty around a farm! I used them to attach 4x4 14-gauge fence wire on the tubular gates on my property to keep horses from standing on the gates and keep animals out of pastures and from coming into the main property (dogs).
Do you plan on using that during the winter? I live in missouri and we get some cold winters. We haven’t moved onto our own land but when we do I plan on having a portable shed sort of speak for our cattle that we’ll get. I just want them to stay warm but not have to worry about the hassle of shoveling crap. Sorta like a chicken tractor. But they’ll still have free roam of our pasture.
Yes I will use this this winter. I won't allow snow to build on it though. I believe it would still hold even if snow does build on it. I'm sure the tarp will have to be replaced though. As for something portable this would not work well as it would have to be dismantled to move it. Instead of the t posts you could use 2x4 or preferably 2x6 to build a box that the panels set inside. Although if snow is a concern the t posts are tall enough to not allow it to bend to either side. But I believe if you were to make your box narrow it will keep those cattle panels high pitched enough to shed snow off. You may also consider using steaks on the four corners as a temporary shelter without those t posts would probably blow away. I did the box method with my greenhouse you can make that design portable pretty easy. Good luck hope this helps
