- This is my second BRUSH TEETH movie.This is how I brush their teeth. Fig (Havanese is 5 yrs) Tucker (Coton is 6 yrs). I can usually brush their teeth in 5 minutes. They get their teeth brushed every other day. Both dogs are very good and will put up with almost anything that I ask of them. This video has a few extras that show their personality.

You have a truly beautiful and gentle manner with the pups, and they are really lovely dogs. 😍 Loved precisely five (5) stretches 🤣 as Tucker saunters over for his turn. I’m currently using dental wipes on my cockapoos followed by Greenies every night, but I hope to graduate to real brushing soon. My vet suggested the finger brushes, and it is really helpful to see your technique for the back teeth. All the best!

I had a Havanese. He lived to be 14 years old and his name was Max. Max did not want his teeth brushed. Max stretched too like that as your dog does. They are so cute.

Awesome work. I used to use the CET toothpaste as well, but switched once Petsmile toothpaste was introduced. Petsmile is the only toothpaste to receive the Veterinary Oral Council approval. It has a mixture that prevents tartar attachment to the tooth. I just wanted to pass that along. Thanks for the video!

By far the BEST dog brushing video! I have never seen such obedient dogs!!!! OMG! I brush my dog's teeth every night and since she's only 10 lbs, I would prop her in the bathroom sink. She likes getting her teeth brushed but perhaps I could brush her teeth better if she was laying down like your dogs do.
They say teaching a dog to roll over is one of the hardest trick to teach. Do you think you can post a video on how to teach a dog to roll over?
By the way, what kind of birds do you have? I thought I heard birds in the background at first then that was confirmed when I saw the cages in the background. I have a bird myself so I'm familiar with the sound. If your dogs are these obedient, I can only imagine how well behave your birds are.

SO FUNNY - we have two Coton's and they look just like your two. Ours are both girls and (our first girls ever and less mindful? as all our boys have been. Surely more definite.) I mean REALLY like your two. They also both love to rip it up outside. Was almost scarey seeing our b/w coton in your video!

Love this! Oh how I wish I could do this to my dogs! My Buffy at 2 years old has beautiful teeth. . She loves to chew bones from the butcher shop. Is this an alternative to brushing?

Hello from the UK! I've been smitten with Coton de Tulear & Havanese dogs for several years, but after much research contacting breed societies, owners, visiting Crufts, etc, I'm still struggling to choose between them! As someone with an obvious love of both breeds, I was hoping you could share your experience of their differences & attributes. My absolute top priority is a human-oriented, really affectionate dog, that loves human company, contact & cuddles, is playful, sensitive, enjoys games & exercise, including sometimes fairly long walks, & gets on well with other dogs. My retired father lives with me, & I work from home, so any dog would rarely be left on their own. I'm prepared to devote the time necessary to daily grooming, but I don't want a so-called "handbag"/fashion accessory dog, just a super friendly, loving furry canine companion & family member! I'd really appreciate your perspective. Many thanks!

Hello. Both ur boys are so calm and adorable. I'm torn between Havanese and Coton, both seem amazing. Although I'm leaning towards Coton because Ive read and by your answer to me that they are less yappy (would bark the least) May I ask how you keep Tucker's eyes area so clean and white? At that age I usually see tear (yellow) stains on them.
A "Coton de Tulear" is a good choice. I spend about 1 hour or less for, daily maintenance. Tucker has never been to a groomer. Morning, brushing and tying up hair. We walk 1.5 miles per day. Evening, combing out face, cleaning eyes and whatever needs attention. I think the eyes stay nice due to a good diet. No wheat or corn and meat being the first ingredient. Good food brands, Merrick, Halo, Blue buffalo keeps allergies under control. Necessary to brush teeth every 48 hours. Grind nails, trim feet, trim anal area monthly. Trim belly and chest area every 4 months. Start this routine at 10 weeks, never yell or hit, be very gentle and they will stay calm. Also at 10 to 12 weeks introduce them to many dogs thst have had their shots and people.
I don't know where you live but one of the best breeders east of the Mississippi is www.cottonblossomcotons.com. If you call Her. let her know I gave you the info, Tucker is still on her website, first page, as a 10 week old puppy. Coton's have just been recognized by AKC in 2014. The history of a Coton de Tulear is very interesting.
Thank you. Sounds like he/she will need more grooming than the average dog but I actually enjoy that, it's relaxing to me. I saw Tucker as a baby! So cute! Im in California but if I go with cottonblossom I will definitely mention you gave me info. In fact Im sending them an email asking when their next litter is expected and will do so then. Jazmine my Havanese never barks and to be honest their tempermant is amazing. Havanese are awesome. As for tears avoid chicken. My dog does not have tears at all.
Jazmine also avoid Merrick they source from China especially since they are now owned by Purina and Blue Buffalo is trash. You want good quality Orijen, Acana, Canisource and Ziwipeak. Those are good brands. Blue is just recall after recall.
First mistake is what kind of tooth paste?
i have two havanese that i got for my daughters but i find them too clingy. they don't want anything to do with anyone except me, they follow me everywhere, the bathroom and i can't keep them away from my bedroom and my bed. they were suppose to stay in my daughters room and their beds are there, but they don't care. if you I lock them out at night i won't be able to sleep because they keep jumping on the door and bark until i open the door for them and they would just run right in and jump on the bed like it belongs to them. it's crazy breed.
You are their pack leader. Sometimes you can’t control who they like. Just relax and love them.

+jshepperson25 Good food is the basic. NO allergies! I clean them every night with a fine comb and wipe any tears clean.

I have 2 cotons and i wash them once or twice a week but their mouth is still so dirty :(
+Pinkie Pie Tucker, my cotton, eats off of a flat plate. This lets him eat without putting his mouth in a bowl. He stays pretty clean that way.
Pinkie Pie I wipe Teddy's "beard" every evening when I comb him out before bed. Teddy is havanese.

Oh my goodness I wish my 5lb. poodle would love the teeth cleaning I just look into her eyes and they are so pitiful, often times she will hide from me, I find her, I still do it fighting her all of the way, she is getting better I am rewarding with some dog treats, and since she was able to chew those chew bones every variety, I have tried em..and she still has severe dental problems, and where I live the vets want $1,000.00 to clean teeth I got several estimates, from different vets, and they were all in the same ball park price.

Sure! That is the best way to do a thorough cleaning. They are 8 and 9 yrs old. They have had a few teeth removed but they hardly have any plaque. Even after all that brushing they can get gum disease, so they still need their teeth cleaned professionally every few years.
ROWDYTOOTS I think if their gums looks good you shouldn’t need a cleaning under anesthesia especially as they get older
How do you brush their teeth if they don't stay still? I not the kit from my Vet. Comes with a rubber thing for the finger.
