Hello! I’m 16 and currently deciding whether to sign up. I would love to, however I am nervous of the possibility of having to go under general anaesthetic. I’ve been watching a lot of videos on donating. I know this is a strange question but I couldn’t find the answer anywhere, how did you go to the toilet when donating via your blood for 5 hours?
Hi, it is definitely a great thing to do! I think you only have to go under anaesthetic if you donate via bone marrow. When I needed the loo, they just turned the machine off and unhooked me so I could go to the toilet and then put it back on 😊 x
me too i'm scared aswell but I'm BAME and they need so much minorities on the register, stephanie did you end up doing it ? i filled out the form debating on weather to click the submit option for over a week now
@@hanaasiraj3225 Hello! I decided not to sign up because I am still only 16. I will 100% consider signing up in the future, but I think at the moment it’s not the best time to do it. I turn 17 in 2 months time and I will sign up to donate blood as I think this is a good thing to do. I wish you well on your journey of being bone marrow donor if you decide to do it! One thing I would say is definitely don’t rush into the decision because I was so close to signing up but I had only actually thought about it for a few days (was a bit of a spur of the moment idea) which although it is an amazing thing to do, I don’t think I would be ready to do it. I will revisit doing it in a few years time! Good luck :) xx
Thanks for sharing. I’m undergoing this process now. Just got my first two shots of G-CSF today!
