So far the method has been in use for over 10 years now and no long term side effects have been found in any cases. Your marrow replenishes itself within 21 days so after that you are essentially back to normal. You do get a fair amount of choice between the donation procedures but in the end the decision is up to the transplant centre so best to be happy with both. I would really recommend doing it, its an amazing feeling!
I just signed up today, not gonna lie I'm a bit squeamish with needles and blood and this video made the colour drain out of my face a bit ... but I'm totally ready to bite the bullet and get on with it if it saves someone's life!! Good for you mate hope you're well
Sarah Gore hello! I’ve done this around July 2020 and it doesn’t hurt at all, once it’s in you honestly don’t feel it, the injections that you get prior are sore though, but the transplant itself is very straightforward and easy
That is amazing. I donated via an operation over 10 years ago and I thought that was really easy. Fantastic work being done and no effort considering you can save someones life.
Hello! I know you most likely will not see this as you commented this 9 years ago. However, I’m 16 and would like to register, but I’m worried that I could be the 10% who need to go under general anaesthetic to donate, instead of via the blood. How was your experience with the operation?

Great video diary - I've also been through the same procedure and I was surprised by how straight forward it was. The injections beforehand made me feel a bit funny but, as you say, nothing too bad. Overall feeling after 5 hours on the machine was just bit numb from being in same position for so long and then tired next day or two. Privileged to have helped someone else.
Great video! I got a call from One Match in here Canada to begin testing for a potential donation. It's great to see things like this clip as confirmation that donating is as easy and rewarding as I thought.
Been on the register for a year and just got my email today to say I may be a match. Fingers crossed the further testing works out, and can help someone out!
I am very interested in joining the register, its just the fact I dont really like the idea of two needles being stuck into my bones! Are there are any long term side effects from this method over the normal blood donation way, such as scars or pain when it it touched? And do you know if you can just choose the blood donation way, or is the choice done for you? Thanks
Its been almost 10 years since your donation. I just want to know how you are doing now since then? I am a little more than half match for my dad that needs it. I am terrified to do it. Thanks for sharing your journey.
as a platelet donor I know that it's the nurses choice as to whether they wear gloves or not. When I donate (every two weeks), the nurses do not use gloves as 1) they are comfortable that I pose little risk of carrying an infection and 2) any infection I may be carrying would more than likely be picked up during the processing of the previous donation. In this case, Callum's blood would have been analysed before donating. If a nurse has a cut on their hand, they'd wear gloves.
Hi I am thinking to donate stem cell.. I feel like my bones are not strong as before I know that for sure... So would I have any bone problems after this donor... Or any health issues thereafter... If any one knows please reply back kindly. It will be great to know...
Did you get to donate in the end? I'm thinking of doing it but as a younger person I'm worried it would be an issue with my family how did u get aorund that?
Fantastic! Thank God for people like you. My daughter had blood cancer so I know how much your donation means to a family! I've signed up myself.
Hi there, out of curiosity. What does the transplant do. Like did your daughter only need one dose and she's fine

I also had a bone marrow transplant and sharing my journey on UA-cam. It's awesome you could be a donor. It's such a journey.

I did this in the summer last year, my older brother had lymphoma and needed it, if any of you have questions, feel free to let me know!

I've just been contacted as a possible match for someone. From what I understand it's completely safe, with no long term health effects :)
@@5iveoceanshells I'm doing mine soon too
Awesome! Inspiring Video. I like the spirit.

I received my swab kit today. The process has started and I hope everything will be good so I can donate as well!
@Laurlie6 unfortunately we can't give out those details, but 80% of our donations are provided by this method.
Is it possible that you can be a match for someone more than once whilst on the register?
When was your procedure done?

@Laurlie6 June 2011
9 out of 10 people donate their stem cells via the bloodstream.
