Could we please have some well thought out viewing areas in the future airport campus for watching aircraft? I know it’s probably not the biggest concern business wise, but for myself and many of my family and friends, some of our fondest memories of the airport of old were watching the planes from the roof. Would be awesome to take my nephews somewhere like that again. Even just some better designed park-up spots around the perimeter of the airport. A bit of asphalt and some decent bins would be a start..... some areas are a rubbish tip some days
Great call...was just thinking the same as I watched the video, some extra parking, and a little bit of aviation info (history etc) to cater for those who love aviation.
Every $1 the airport generates the wider economy makes $50? So when I want to park in the cheapest long term parking for a three day weekend I benefit Christchurch to the tune of $3300? Magical!
This is going to be dog-toffee without rapid public transport, going to be as congested as Auckland airport without either dedicated rapid bus lanes or light rail or heavy rail built as the expansion is undertaken.
If dog-toffee means bad then I completely agree, this plan will congest Memorial Ave it'll increase our carbon emissions and they'll probably turn it into a highway. If the goal is to open up space for more foreign flights then expand inter-city rail in the South Island for domestic travelers which will open up way more space in the airport for foreign and North Island arrivals.
I can't wait. But I would think about adding more gates to the Domestic terminal. But I don't know if your seeing a up turn in domestic travel though? Also I do think that you will find your gonna need to make It a bit bigger just judging by how well the airports been doing so far. I'm proud to call Christchurch my home and I want to see an amazing airport for everyone to enjoy. This looks good but I would still think a bit bigger. Keep up the amazing work Christchurch Airport love ya! 🛫
@@unknownentity742 The airport is owned by Christchurch City Council. So the rate payers will pay for it. But at least it makes money for the city so its alright.
they might need to recorrect their future plan it is not making any convince to the Antarctica research. spot putting it down to three spots were in the winter there usually 1 to 3 aircraft already sitting there and, in the summer, usually having 5 to 7 aircraft sitting there no evaluating the ones to fly in and out. so, think the design might to be rethanked unless they're going to move or build a whole another section for Antarctica and Defense Force cause the area seen will not provide enough space for the missions to continue and nearest airport that can hold the place E.g C-130, C-17, C-5 and Boeing 757 would be wellington or ohakea
Hey, the word ‘campus’ refers to the grounds of a university, college or at a pinch in some circumstances, a teaching hospital. Airport grounds ARE NOT campuses. Yet another twisting of the language by repurposing words not related in any way to the subject. Why do people insist on doing this????
everything just too slow, look at the road network in CBD after the quake, still like sxxx, road works all around, look at other countries after the earth quake, will it need 10-20 years to build it.......!
Sorry but you can’t compare New Zealand to other countries. From memory the Chch earthquake was going to cost around 20% of GDP. The Japan quake and tsunami, a few percent. Totally different kettle of fish
Chch airport was not long upgraded. WHY wasn't this implemented then? Why the fuck do Kiwi's have to wait until 2040? Cheaper to do it now rather than then.
Oh my god mate, such hate. CHC airport is the right size now for the current passenger and retail numbers. There's no congestion in the terminals at present, so no need to make it too large. Running a half-empty airport for the next 25 years is a waste of money. Better to make the upgrades when they're needed. Besides, this is a work-in-progress and just a Master-plan that may only be implemented in parts or subject to change. It won't cost much extra to upgrade later, as most of the existing extensions and new structures will be retained and are designed to fit in with the new plans over the next 20 years.
well said !!! 20 years ! many countries can build a brand new airport already !!! they should at least upgrade their taxi stands and bus stop to a well covered area. and covered walkways between carpark and terminals. I've heard a lot of people are not happy becoz in rainy and windy season they will get wet with their luggages !!! " Enhancing customers journeys?" lol far from it!
In 2040 comercial aviation as we know it will be gone. Flights up to two hours will be possible with electric propulsion but further will for ever be impossible.

there's a back road at the far side of the airport that is alright ish for watching the planes from memory, it's not the best but it is something.

I like how the parks are named after ww2 era planes
It’s no question why Mustang Park is named Mustang 🏎

David economic benefit.

No public transport other than buses?
No thought for rail.
I know right? Anybody with a brain would add a railway system to the airport.

Why wait and do it now? Cmon Christchurch!!
I don't trust this. They have been talking about auckland airport the same, but man just look at it. Its arrival lounge is one of the worst i ever saw
The vision is too small. It needs to be bigger. The expansion looks condensed & limited. Go big ChCh
I’m 15 but I saw this video and got really excited to watch it
Will this ever happen?
anyone remembers old terminal the 1970s one. they had that loop thing look where we are now, we don't have it.
no one will be able to use it
2040? and now it's 2017. how many people can live long enough to see it?
i will be 35 when this happens im 16 now
They need enough funds to make it happen.....
If the motorways took 50 years to build, we are looking to complete this earport vision by 2140.
It’s 2023 and nothing has started yet.
20 years time.... Great! tell us when it's 2 years away
will do
Dreamers thinking big again even in auckland
50 or 60.
Better start construction now
Looks good I live in Christchurch.
Looks great can't wait to see it done!
they never said how much it's going to cost
Why does that matter?? Taxpayers don’t pay for it because it is a business.
@@unknownentity742 The airport is owned by Christchurch City Council. So the rate payers will pay for it. But at least it makes money for the city so its alright.
Wingnut
It’s a business as long as it makes money and we don’t have to pay for upkeep, that’s ok.
Dreamers cash I think out of your pocket...again
Should build parts of it in the style of the decades it has being around or have a terminal of idk 1990s
Etc
Lets hope they improve the 3rd world toilets

Great video and wonderful plans for the future. Cheers!

2040!? I don’t have that long. Also bring the a380 back
Tourisim is an export industry?
Yep. The Kiwi OE.
everything just too slow, look at the road network in CBD after the quake, still like sxxx, road works all around, look at other countries after the earth quake, will it need 10-20 years to build it.......!
To what standard...Probably won't pass the current building standards

Yes too much unfinished infrastructure especially roadworks ongoing problem.

No rail?

It’ll never happen.
天气很好,冷的时候才逃 !!!
You can throw this concept in the bin along with the Auckland airport 2040 project aswell. Cheers to the scmdemic!
Yeah nah not happening eh.
Look new airport in Beijing China. You will see the future.

In 2040 comercial aviation as we know it will be gone. Flights up to two hours will be possible with electric propulsion but further will for ever be impossible.
