      +fsociety - I understand your rant.
      However, you need to understand Canon's point of view on this.
      The 80D is a camera for photography. Asking them for 4k video and 120fps/240fps video in their range of photography cameras seems dumb.
      Their range of video cameras do do this easily.
      Their point is, you want to shoot video, buy a video camera.
      And if it helps, Sony and Panasonic make DSLRs that shoot videos really well and shoot sub-par photographs.
      I guess, you can't have both at a low price. The Canon 1Dx does all what you want and cost a pretty $8,000.
      It not their fault. You get what you pay for.

      John Benson 70D was cheap and did excellent video for the time. Canon is not competing with the gh5 the a 80d should have been 4K.

    Nice work guys. From my reviews, the 80D for me is pretty much the best fit for most people looking to buy a canon APSC these days unless they specifically need the speed of the 7D mark ii. Hope the weather is getting a bit warmer on your side of the world!

    • @Bostonpowercat
      @Bostonpowercat 8 років тому

      +EricsMode Can't comment about n the 70D, but having a 60D before I can say the touch screen is a real joy on the 80D. You can swipe and pinch to zoom through your photos, 45 point autofocus is a really nice upgrade to. Only one "minor" issue the delete button on the 80d is where the play button used to be on the 60d so I keep going to delete my pictures, give it a couple of weeks and I will soon get used to that.

Please recommend some L lenses. I'm considering ef 70-200, ef 200 2.8ii, ef 135 f2l, ef 400 f5.6l. I was leaning toward the ef 100-400 is2, but read about dust getting inside. Thanks

    The trouble with Canon is they don't want their video and photo worlds to collide. They've always saved the best video features for their Cinema Line cameras and never introduce them to their mid tier stills cameras like every other manufacturer is doing.
    I mean come on, a max resolution of 1080p? 60 FPS? No decent flat picture profile? This is 2010 level stuff.

    • @godofhope
      @godofhope 8 років тому

      Can a no-pro user afford a cinema camera from Canon? Nope. They should make videophile camera for normal customers. The 80D is half backed and way to expensive as well

    • @cooloox
      @cooloox 8 років тому +5

      +hellomyphone It's not expensive at all. It's worth every cent just for its still capabilities alone! Add the simple video functionality for amateurs and it's a real winner. Why is everyone pretending to be a videographer when I never see anyone on the street shooting video, and literally never (other than on mobile phones or occasionally on professional video cameras)? Most people complaining about video don't even shoot it and are simply spec sheet fanboys. I do tons of street photography so I'm always out and about. Where are these video guys? What are they shooting? Oh, in their imagination... I thought so.

    • @SonnyVisual
      @SonnyVisual 8 років тому

      +cooloox EXACTLY what i have been saying. and half of these fan boys just film their kids in the back yard or a basic birthday party then shelf the camera for the next few months. the same people who leave comments saying how "Gradeable" is the footage, and ask about shutter count when buying used.... its JUST a camera. take photos, be happy. learn the skill of photography, don't buy into gimmicks.

  • @AANasseh

    • @TheCameraStoreTV

      The only time I've had an overheating issue on the A6300 was during our recent X-T2 shoot in New York. It was 38 degrees Celsius, and the camera overheated every ten minutes or so. I wound up recording to a Pix-E5 external recorder eventually, which solved the problem.

    Its 3 years later and I just bought this bad ass camera. Why i look at reviews after i buy something ill never know but i gotta say I love this camera. Its pin sharp and I mainly got it after trying the auto focus on it compaired to other full frame cameras on the market in 2019 and this felt silky smooth. Ive done wild life with the kit 75-250 lens and even through a car window the results were stunning. Ive even done a moon shot which had detail of the crators, have also done an Air show and it tracks high speed jets even with a 50mm lens. Noise is minimal on this camera in low light and long exposure is great. The fact you can use wifi and remotely control it from your phone or laptop is amazing. I was really worried about buying a camera that was 3 years old but have to say for the price its amazing.

    • @AANasseh
      @AANasseh 8 років тому +5

      +beamwalker I think Canon prefers the softer film look. Even 5Dmkiii image is this soft. Is it a preference? I don't know. But definitely if you want sharp then go with GH4 or Sony! I think there was something to be said, however, about the softer skin tone that results from the softer image. Chris looked younger in this video than the other ones shot on the FS7! LOL!

    • @sin3rgy
      @sin3rgy 8 років тому

      +beamwalker I was thinking the same. You can clearly see sharp beautiful stills images when shown in the video, but once it goes to motion it's pretty soft. Actually a few times it seemed like the autofocus was hitting Chris's ears just past his face.

    • @sosoishero
      @sosoishero 8 років тому +10

      +RealWorld Endo No, because they are too lazy to implement full sensor readout and still use line skipping for video, the 5Dmkiii uses a lazy downscale algorithm that produces soft images.
      Bottomline is, Canon still want to protect their Cinema line which is that is being ate up by other companies.

    Video sharpness is a modern selling trick for youtube generation. Sharper than in this video looks like cheap TV production. Both colors and "softness" of Canon make it look like an actual movie. Which is good by me, but it''s a matter of opinion i guess. Note how many great features this camera has and everybody still complains - hey, no 4K, blah blah blah. Sounds like people became too dependent on technology.

      +Video DSLR Tutorial okay - details (too much of them) make it look like TV production. Anyway, I can make a lovely video with 7D and it has nothing to do with technicality, even though there are some areas I'm sure 4K and good details are appreciated. Still, 80D is a cool camera and sure it is an improvement from 70D

      oasisbeyond Andrea over at SonyAlphaRumors just weighed in on the size debate... but yeah, I film more, so the 4K and higher frame-rates are more appealing to me personally. The revelation is made at 00:53 (that the video is being shot with an 80D) but I already new it from the start - (I missed the initial message, while adjusting size and resolution for viewing).
    Now, I am not saying that Canon imagery overall quality is the best out there and it probably is a factor that I am a exclusively-Canon user but, I must say, there's something about their contrast, color and tone quality that really sets them apart.
    I love it and I saw it here, right from second "6".

    I'm a freelance corporate shooter planning on leaving Canon to join the Sony a7S bandwagon. My twin 60D have served me well over the years and it's due for an upgrade. I loved the 70D, the Dual Pixel AF feels like magic, but held on for something more. The a7S came and afterwards, Canon feels so lagging. When the 80D came out I was cynical, pointing out that the headphone port was the only new thing on it. I totally dismissed the camera. Until I see this review. Wow. First of all, I love how while you guys try to be critical on things, you're not hating Canon like many does today. Second, I love how some new things are brought up. I saw another review on the 80D which failed to point out the positives, and merely took the viewers on a cynical trip. And finally, it makes me rethink my plans. I am now seriously considering this camera. I would still get an a7S but I think I'm gonna enjoy shooting with this more. Probably as B cam. Familiar ergonomics plus super easy focus pulls, I'm in. So thank you guys for making this review. Almost missed a good camera.

    Phenomenal review as usual guys!
    So Jordan, for video use (and maybe stills too) with nice EF mount glass like the Sigma 18-35, or the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS ii, do you prefer the 80D, or the a6300? You kind of have me inclined to give an 80D a try to supplement my GH4, even though it doesn't have FS5 image quality. Lol

      truth

    • @cooloox
      @cooloox 8 років тому +10

      +insainllama It depends on what you do with your camera. If you shoot stills then the AF is far more reliable and accurate on the Canons. Much better to hold in the hand too, assuming you are male and have normal sized hands. Sony like to throw in everything but the kitchen sink, but many features are sub-standard. Who wants an 11fps camera which does not have a good enough AF to consistently and accurately keep up with it? It comes down to taste, but I prefer the image quality out of the Canons and especially colour rendition straight out of the camera. I couldn't live without a touchscreen now that I have got used to it.

      Flip screen, touch screen, headphone input, much more lenses to choose out of, better menu structure, better grip to hold. Also, don't expect the a6300 FullHD to look better than the 80D FullHD. a6300 only shines when filming 4k. FullHD is quite soft so if you get the a6300 make sure your computer is able to handle 4k.

      Only video, of course. These are fine photo cameras I presume - not too far away from the competition anyway. The problem is that this cam has a big fuss about it due to its utility in video applications, yet it uses really outdated solutions unfortunately, with an exception of its AF system.

    The side by side image comparisons between the 80d and the 7dMii and examples of dynamic range were very helpful. Since the cost of both bodies are about equal now, any thoughts on whether the extra 100k shutter actuations, gps and speedlite transmitter would sway you toward a 7dMii? Thanks-
